Decoy during the rut part 3 www.whitetailhabitatconsulting.com
This is from November 14th, 2024. With my buck tag already filled I took a decoy out and filmed the how deer reacted. I have hunted in the past with a decoy and have been successful on some of the hunts. This is part 3. If you have not seen part 1 and part 2 I will link it in the description. In part 3 I will have it as a buck again but with a friend that still has his buck tag. I have helped clients improve their habitat and hunting from Canada to Texas. I can create a plan for your property or evaluate your plan. I would appreciate it if you would subscribe to my channel.

Spot Spraying Food Plots www.whitetailhabitatconsulting.com

I have had a Chapin rechargeable battery operated backpack sprayer for several years. I have been impressed with the amount of spraying that can be done with the battery before it needs to be recharged. There are other ways to control weeds that do not require a herbicide. Herbicide can be convenient but I try to limit their use. By spot spraying I can be more selective on what gets sprayed and...

Thank you. I appreciate it.

Those crossguns sure make it pretty easy, huh?
I started deer hunting with a recurve and then moved to a compound in the 80s. I have harvested over 100 deer with compounds before I switched to a crossbow. 22 plus years of military service has left me with shoulder problems. The crossbow allows me to hunt.
Way to go! Perfect shot on a great buck, congrats!
I appreciate it. Thanks.
Congratulations. Beautiful shot. Well deserved. Your labor has paid off. Love it. Thanks for sharing your hunt.
Thanks and hope you are having a great season.
👍💪🤝🤝
Thanks
Very happy to see your new post. I really enjoy getting a snapshot of your life. Wish you an exciting hunting season
Thanks and good luck to you as well.
You have planned well and will benefit from your hard work. Looking forward to upcoming hunting videos
Thank you.
Always a treat when I see your video. Excited to see your upcoming hunting adventures. I’m still working on my food plots. We are having drought conditions in Virginia which makes it difficult to get germination.
Thanks and hope you get some rain. Good luck this season.
Good to hear from you and appreciate your product review
Thanks
I have a trim string style swisher and i just mowed a few spots and the clover appreciates it, it blew up out of the ground within a week the weeds are over head high and im 6'
I am glad it worked out for you.
Good video
Thank you.
Hey there when do you plant your winter rye and where at? I’m in sawyer county Wisconsin and was going to plant tomorrow august 6
@@chadilacnissen9717 I focus more on rain than a specific day. If you are in an area that does not agriculture nearby then I plant sooner. If there is competing crops nearby then I plant later so I have young growth when deer season opens. I planted a few acres of winter rye a few days ago.
Happy to see a new video from you. Hope to see more this year.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Good info, thanks Joe! What kind of mower is that? Happy with it? I have an Ardisam Earthquake. Bought it last year. It's a giant turd full of design, build and quality flaws. Looking for something better...
Thanks. It is Swisher rough cut. I took some video of the mower where I talk about it. I will try to post it soon. Overall I have been happy with it but the raising and lower design could be better.
I’m buying me a good thick piece of plywood before next deer season
I have been using this method for years and it has worked well for me. Good luck.
That 11 point was a beautiful buck Brother!! Great brow times and all.
Thanks. I agree. He was a great looking deer. If you search my past videos you can see the hunt and more video of him.
Mistake or not, good job. Meat in the freezer, cant eat them horns! lol
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Thanks. Are there any specific topics you would like?
Always enjoy your video and commentary. Keep them coming.
Nice to see you posting again. Always enjoy your thoughts
I appreciate that!
Shoot!
Looks like you have a ton of good food for them here. Are you planting Miscanthus in the back for a screen? Why did you pass on the 10?
I have a small strip of miscanthus as a visual barrier. I shot a buck open day 41 years ago and it was great at first but I am not ready to be done buck hunting yet. I passed him again the next afternoon. That was strike 2 so he may get shot on strike 3.
Good deal, I utilize Miscanthus as well, very happy with the way it grows. I would kill a buck day one but I also hunt a few states so it lends to that strategy. Seems like they are comfortable on your property so I understand the wanting to wait. @@whitetailhabitatconsulting
Thanks Joe. I always appreciate your efforts to share information. Value your thoughts.
Thanks for the feedback.
You are welcome. I appreciate your comments.
Thanks Joe for your hard work putting this video together and posting so I can enjoy. The heat and humidity in Central Virginia is building up.
How old are those?
I have 2 different stands that are not the same age. The older stand is over 50 years old.
What's your thoughts on liquid lime
I tried it years ago and stopped using it.
Looking good Joe. Was that a DR stump grinder in the plot? I have one and have ground several hundred stumps with it. It eats through pine very easily. Maple are a little tougher. I’m having 50 acres of mature white pine cut at some point. There’s going to be a mess if tops with those. I need to discuss with the forester a plan on what’s being left and what’s being chipped.
Yes it was. I have ground many stumps with it.
I had our pines thinned last summer. I am very excited to see what new growth we will have this year. I also had a 1 acre clearing made for a food plot/pond. The slash left behind from that is a big job to clean up.
The slash can be used to create blockades or brush piles for wildlife. I used my tractor to move it and it would have been nice to have a grapple. Not sure if you saw the videos I did on an acre clear cut in the red pines from 2 years ago but here is part one of four. Good luck. th-cam.com/video/3WNh4pqGMKQ/w-d-xo.html
Mind saying what they paid ?
@@ukjw2 It was a thinning of two different age class trees I was paid $25.53 a ton. The market prices can change and the price can also be higher or lower depending on how many trees are being removed and the location of the property.
Are they going to clean up any of the slash and tops left or will they leave them as is??
They left the slash. I will leave some to help protect the new growth from the deer and pile some up to make brush piles for the rabbits.
Cesar🧔🏻
do you work in Burnett Co. Wisconsin and can your do stumps in the 14"+ range??
I brought in a guy with a forest mulcher to this property. If you email me at whitetailhabitatconsulting@gmail.com I can get you his number. He was out of Shell Lake.
I do the same thing in my food plots. Works very well.
Glad it is working for you. I like to have biodiversity.
Congratulations Joe
Thanks Mike
Who would have thought a portable blind could be used as bear bait. We have a large population in Central Virginia.
Back when I was in high school seeing a bear was a big deal. Back then you did not need a special tag to shoot them during deer season. Now there are more than I would like.
Great buck buddy
Thanks Josh. I appreciate it.
Was that a Cross Gun you used?
A Ravin.
Thanks David. Hope you have a great season.
Congrats
Good ideas except wish you wouldn't promote spraying poison that is harmful to wildlife and humans. Lets work to get rid of cancer and other ailments caused by spraying during our lifetime.
Stanley, Thank you for your comments. I have had to go through training to receive a commercial applicators license. Too many people have used herbicide incorrectly. I have been reducing my use of herbicides and generally will just spot spray. If I had more money I would buy a crimper and then possible I would not use any herbicide and it could also allow me to use less fertilizer. Thanks for watching.
All good except skip spraying poisonous chemicals.
Thanks. I am working on not using any herbicides but do spot spray glyphosate.
Thanks Brett. Hope you cross paths with a good one.
Congratulations
Thanks Mike
Nice looking set up Joe! I have a nearly identical set up to this. It has attracted lots of small bucks but no mature bucks yet. It works well for getting in and out and getting up close, so it's just a matter of time.... Congrats on getting a real nice buck!
I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Thank you very much for sharing.
Thanks David.
You showed great restraint. Thanks for sharing
Thanks.
Good to see your post. Always nice to see a video from you.
Thanks David. I appreciate it.
between drought and the hungry critters it's been a difficult growing season also here in Canada
That does make it difficult. Good luck.
@@whitetailhabitatconsulting Thank you Joe
What will you plant?
I will be planting winter rye on this plot.
