    To help your fridge last longer than 5 years, you need airflow around it of at least 1". Clean the back out regularly, especially if you have pets. Blocking it off might look nice and might help with storage issues but will cost you an expensive appliance in the long run I think.

    Just watched this, going to design and make this for more storage, may I made a suggestion? MUSIC: not needed. LOVED hearing your talk about how you were making this slide out, but the music was unnecessary. Not sure why all (us) TH-camrs think that music needed. It isn't. Thank you. I mean this in the kindest way, hearing you TELL us about how you are making this is MUCH better than any music to fill the gaps when you aren't talking.

    lol awesome man im right where u had a sticking point on the dowels, i had to go back to swap for thinner ones cuz the orig. too thick and caused issues pulling and putting spice bottles in and out . I wish i saw this b4, i used dowels, i really like the strips you attached to act as barriers. you had 4 inshed i had 5 inch to work with with 30 inch of overall unit depth and i got lucky i used 1x5 and took baseboard off leghth of wall where shelf will slide inand out. How did it work out with the casters in a row , not side by side?

    Follow up questions! Is it top heavy at all? Would you still do wheels instead of slides? What would you tweak now?

    • @DIYDREW
      @DIYDREW 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is top heavy- you can’t pull it all the way out. I would still do wheels as I want to have that full extension without paying for the really big slides. Things I would tweak now: I would build it a little different with new skills I have acquired, I would have done the shelves based on what I need not on even spacing and I would make it a little wider.

    Love this idea!!! The side of the fridge buts next to my dining table and I was hoping this can also serve as a free-standing wall between the fridge and dining table/area. Do you know this will work as free-standing?

    • @DIYDREW
      @DIYDREW 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could. But only if you had a way to keep it in track, it's pretty unstable when left to it's own devices.

    • @tamarar.4642
      @tamarar.4642 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I built this with my husband. We put command strip hooks at the back of the fridge to catch the lip when you pull in out. One side has a board just like in this video and the other side is open and the hooks catch it so it doesn’t pull all the way out. It’s really steady too!

  • @Am-graphix

    I’d dearly love that pantry space but always thought that space around the he fridge is for airflow.

    • @DIYDREW
      @DIYDREW 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it will depend on your space. You'll want to pay attention to where the vent is (mine is on the back), so I just leave it pulled away from the wall just a bit plus I have a lot of space above, problem soved!

    how do you stop the pantry from toppling and scraping against the surface of the fridge or the wall, have you used some sort of metal track that guides the pantry when it is being pulled in and out, if so could you show what you used, love the final job it looks amazing.

    • @DIYDREW
      @DIYDREW 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I left a channel at the top and bottom and screwed a piece of scrap wood to the wall. It acts as a stop. More simply I don't pull it all the way out, the stop only kind of works :) hope that helps!

  • @pamelastanley7461

    Love the finish project! I'm hoping to be able to keep it open on both sides for ease of access from either side and I love the casters on bottom to pull it out as one unit. I think I can do this! Any suggestions or lessons learned feel free to share with me if you get a moment. This is for my RV and I may need to the wire type shelving vs wood depending on weight and costs! Yours turned out beautiful! Thanks again for sharing!!✌😊🤞

    I have a 2010 Dutchmen class C with a very deep pantry on right side of my fridge. It has a few built in shelves but it's so deep...i can just reach the back wall with my finger tips so I REALLY appreciate you posting this vid. I'm going to try to make a pantry that pulls out with diff drawers but it can all pull out at once..whichever is easier and cheaper! Did you have shelves you had to remove or was it like a broom closet? Also, what kind of rolling mechanism did you decide in and why? Any suggestions you can give me ate greatly appreciated!! I believe my measurements are about the same as yours height wize but about double in width. I have about an inch on each side that makes opening smaller than the actual inside width! I'm hoping someone can offer advice how to remover the shelves in the pantry now or should I build separate slide outs and use the shelves already in place?! I wanted one piece that pulls out and visible from each side just like ya'll decided. I need light as possible to so should I try to find the metal sliding things or use light weight wood veneer of some sort then the wheels like you did?

    • @DIYDREW
      @DIYDREW 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine was actually just dead space next to the fridge. The rolling mechanism is just small casters on the bottom, it's completely free-standing. I would suggest using drawer slides- full extension if you can.
