Hey! Yeah, I know it's weird but there is a reason for it - whether that reason is good or bad is another thing of course :) I'm guessing you mean things like in bar 33, where I play the open A-string instead of fretting the E-string on the fifth fret right? Or in the pre-chorus like bar 51 and 52, where I again play the open A-string? The reason for it is trying to keep the fretting hand free or as close at one position to the neck to make it easier to play (for new players). I'll admit that I've been considering if I should stop doing this or not, I can totally understand that it's (needlessly) confusing, even if this *should* be easier to play. I'll think about it for sure, you raise a good point!

@@ytbassmonkey Actually I was especially talking about the times when you play the 7th fret on the E string and then the 2nd fret on the A string. Or also the 7th on the A string and then the 2nd on the D string. I'll have to memorize the notes to play along with your video. Haha. Guessing the 7th fret is the best solution most of the times because sometimes there's the same note an octave higher.

@@karelvdd Yeah, it makes sense to me and my muscle memory for patterns on how to hold my fingers, but I get that it's confusing. I'm taking your criticism with me and try to make the tabs a bit less confusing! The whole reason for my covers is so that the viewers have some idea of how the song goes if they want to learn to play the song, or - like you - have to learn to play it for a gig! And yeah, I had a f*** yes at the end, I always record my covers in one take and I just couldn't seem to get this song down well enough. @@gimoraes679 Don't worry, learning bass and/or a song by yourself isn't about being perfect, it's about enjoying playing the song, even if you mess up a part here and there. The best practice you can get is to just play, mistakes be damned!

@ytbassmonkey when I slap, instead of actually moving my wrist, or my hand at all, I simply flick my thumb across the string, like a pick. It's a lot easier to use just your thumb rather than your whole hand.

It sure is a lot of fun to play! I always love it when the bass just dances around the chords through walking basslines. It´s also not uncomfortable, it's a good dexterity exercise in itself :)

Hey! Oh boy, that's a great question, and there's a lot one has to figure out on how to make it sound not awful, it is a struggle! First thing that may help, is that I made a short tutorial video a while back on how I do my covers, which shows using an AI audio removal tool to remove the bassparts pretty decently, which gives room for your bass playing to sit a lot better in the mix. Here's the video, and maybe it has some pointers: th-cam.com/video/pNy24fyuPPM/w-d-xo.html There's always going to be some noise unless you find some pre-split backing tracks that come from the original recording, but that's pretty rare. When it comes to blending, that's the hardest part in my opinion: I try to mix/blend it so the bass is definitely audible, but not too overwhelming that you can't hear the rest of the song anymore. It's trial and error with a lot of EQ, volume settings and compression finetuning. Good luck, and if you have more questions, feel free to ask, always happy to help! I don't do any guitar tabs myself (I can barely play Wonderwall on a guitar!) but I found this one: www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/all-time-low-ft-blackbear-monsters-tab-s673925 Ultimate-Guitar usually has a lot of tabs, but on there, All Time Low songs are blocked by the copyrightholders (usually the record company). Hope this version I linked helps!
