Mike On The Trail
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 มิ.ย. 2009
My goal is to document 1,000 hiking videos in Southern California (of 1,000 different hikes). Along the way, I will visit other parts of California and as many states as I can possibly get to. Hiking is simply my thing, and I have the need and desire to share the wealth with all.
The main purpose of this channel is to showcase the trailside highlights of hiking trails that I visit. Mostly, these are visits to peaks in Southern California, but over time other types of trails will be included and other locations. To those looking to also hike to any of these locations, these videos would undoubtedly be helpful.
Hikes and nature are the true stars of this channel, I am merely the messenger. Easy and hard hikes will get completed. Now armed with a video camera, it will be fun contributing to the quality content that is already out there. Hopefully, my contribution will serve as an enhancement to the community, one weekend at a time.

Hike #140N: Twin Peaks, San Gabriel Mountains (Angeles National Forest), CA (Narrative Version)
Visit Date: 9/17/22.
Hiking Twin Peaks, San Gabriel Mountains (Angeles National Forest), CA.
Twin Peaks is a lightly visited hiking destination along Angeles Crest Highway. The hike is strenuous due to the fact that there are steep climbs to reach them and also when coming back. Aside from that, the destination is reachable to anybody who is willing to put in a reasonable amount of effort. Personally, I would recommend a cool day, which might make all the difference. This was my third visit to Twin Peaks East, but my first visit to Twin Peaks West. One more San Gabriel Mountains peak gets checked off. I don't have too many left!

Visit Date: 9/11/22. Hiking The Box Springs Mountain Loop, Box Springs Mountain Park, Moreno Valley, CA. This is my 4th different video shot within Box Springs Mountain Park. Each video details a completely different hiking experience. That being said, I still have a few more to do. The park is a large place that provides a great deal of hiking options. Eventually, I will get it all done, and I...

Visit Date: 8/28/22. Hiking Mt Hillyer (Via Rosenita Saddle), San Gabriel Mountains (Angeles National Forest), CA. After completing two peaks earlier in the day (concentrating on lightly visited peaks that I had not been to before), I made a revisit to Mt Hillyer. This was more of a convenience stop, since I was right by Rosenita Saddle. Otherwise, I would have taken the slightly more challengi...

Visit Date: 12/29/24. Here I once again tested the theory of: "if there is a dirt road leading somewhere, then you have a hike". If these dirt roads lead to peaks, then you definitely have a hike. In this case, with the use of two forest roads and a dirt bike trail, it led me to Bee Benchmark. This entire section of the Angles National Forest is a bit of a dirt bikers paradise. Old established ...

Visit Date: 8/28/22. Hiking Peak 6178, San Gabriel Mountains (Angeles National Forest), CA. Since I visited most of the peaks along Angeles Crest Highway (some I need to go back to and shoot some video), there are a few established peaks that I needed to check off once and for all. Peak 6178 is one of them. The peak sits next to the taller Pacifico Mountain and makes it look a bit like Pacifico...

Visit Date: 8/28/22. Hiking Peak 7097, San Gabriel Mountains (Angeles National Forest), CA. As is the case far too often, Peak 7097 does not have a known name. This is a prominent point sitting on the west end of Waterman Ridge, so it isn't an insignificant point. I hereby take this moment to proclaim that I would be glad to donate my name to the name of the peak. Somebody representing the moun...

The ramble thru the bramble
Nice hike. Love the wildlife
_Absolutely stunning! This hike looks like a dream. The views are breathtaking, the trail looks so peaceful. You've captured the beauty of this place perfectly. Thank you for sharing this incredibld experience with us._ 👍❤
I haven't been up there since before the Station Fire in 2006 and yes it has changed for the worse, still a beautiful hike.
Unfortunately, fires don't usually enhance the scenery. As always, though, I'll take what I can get while feeling grateful every time I can get out on a hike.
I try to do that once a year, this particular hike, thanks for the video!
That's a great hike for little kids!
Yes it is. Kids would love it.
Beautiful out there
Nice out there. Encounter any OHVs?
There were some, but I was surprised there wasn't very many.
@ eating dust is not my thing but they smooth the walking path so there’s that
@ True words. They do provide that side benefit. However, it is more appealing when they create that benefit on non-hiking days.
I liked that peak too! Last time, it was a warm summer day, and the breeze up on the summit boulders was refreshing! It was a fun peak!
I love this peak! These random ones are the best! I did this one twice; the second time back in 4/2022, I also back door climbed Pacifico, and looped back on 3N17! Most of my latest peak, summit, hill climbs near San Diego lately have been unnamed, random ones as well! If you ever make it down here, the Laguna Mountains have TONS of random, unnamed peaks, some on Peakbagger, and some I got only from the topo maps! Sevearl of them only have elevation contours, and the chaparral is thin on many of them, making cross-country mild, or even easy on several!
I know I originally saw this peak on a Brian Powell video. This one and Few other videos were born out of your experiences. I gladly followed in your footsteps with the knowledge I needed. Hopefully I can do a few of the San Diego ones at some point. Meanwhile, you are doing a good job of knocking off the sites down there!
@@MrMtee33 Thanks Mike! I may be heading back up near L.A. for my vacation in January, and I may be hitting up my beloved Angeles NF for some peak climbs! Your videos also inspire me to check out other awesome locales I haven't yet visited!
Interesting how well defined most of the use trail appeared to be
Pretty up there
I'm just starting out with hills for hiking and one of my friends wants to go on this on Monday. I've been so worried but this video helped me a lot that it doesn't seem too difficult so thank you
You're welcome. In effect, you're just walking uphill on a dirt road. I'm sure you know you can do that. Enjoy your hike!
Technically you can park closer than where you parked correct? Since it’s all dirt roads in the beginning anyway
Yes. Drive as close as you want. I wasn't completely aware of that at the time.
Being a resident for well over 50 years now, had you continued westbound, you would have come upon 'Skyhaven'. The ranch Roy Rogers owned and where the wedding ceremony with Dale took place.
Great info! I had no idea of the history. I noticed the road kept going beyond the summit and kind of wondered where it went.
Looks like a fun hike.
Yes, for a state high point, there is not too much climbing either.
Thank you for this very helpful video. This is on our list to do!
We used to "ride the pipeline" inside the penstock pipe up there in the 60's & 70's before they put padlocks on all of the entry hatches.
It's nice to hear some history on this area. Clearly, there was some activity up there. Now I get a better understanding.
See any deer 🦌?
Occasionally I do when hiking in the area. When I do, I'm glad for the deer that it is not an October, because that would be hunting season.
Good views!
Nice views!
Cool 😊
Heading out there today with my sons
Nice hike. I know this area well, but I’ve never hiked to this peak. I mainly hike up in the San Jacinto Mountains. But this trail looks like a nice, easy-to-get-to hike!
Some day when you don't feel like driving far on a hiking day, this one is a good option.
thanks great. video keep them coming
Awesome hike and video! Tecuya is on my list whenever I can get up that way again! The San Emigdio Mtns. are underrated for great hikes! I once tried getting to nearby Escapula Peak some years ago but missed the faint track to get to it, but ended up on a lesser summit called Tecuya Ridge West (6,740'), and it was before I did videos, unfortunately! I also once did Brush Mtn (7,050') combined with San Emigdio Mtn (7,492'), and that was a fantastic hike as well! The range has great views of Mt. Pinos, Central Valley, and Frazier Mtn!
Thanks Brian! Hopefully I can get back up there and visit some of the other peaks. As you said, the area is definitely underrated.
@@MrMtee33 Living all the way down by San Diego makes it rare nowadays to get up there except on work vacations! I so miss hitting that whole area up!
Grew up Yucaipa 1960s so your lovely video hikes makes me so homesick for those halcyon days. Thank you 🇺🇸
Thank you for chiming in. I'm honored to have contributed to your fond memories. Your feedback definitely helps me to continue making videos.
Nice ramble!
I had no idea Funtana had hills.
The Inland Empire is full of surprises. It is underrated when it comes to hiking.
@ indeed
Love the petroglyphs
Yes, well preserved by the locals.
Great ramble

Hiking Ontario Peak must have offered some truly spectacular views and an unforgettable experience in the San Gabriel Mountains! A perfect adventure for nature lovers. 💖
Yes, it is a nice blend of great scenery and tremendous workout.
26 miles round trip?
No. I always give total mileage in my figures.
@MrMtee33 thank you
What a nice walk 🚶♀️ 👌
Those hills have lots of nice trails, as you know
4 peaks 6 miles!
Wow. Hit lots of high points in one jaunt!
The more the merrier!
@ the peak of efficiency
Hi, do you have to do the full hike to get to the canyon floor at 4.50 of the video? I"m looking for photoshoot spots that doesn't require hiking at this location. And where is parking? Thx!
No, essentially you walk in and you are on the canyon floor. It is an easy, short, and level walk to wherever you need to go, without messing with the canyon walls.
Lovely upload man! Area looks and feels amazing! 👏👏
Wow. Varied trail lots of route options.
Nice hike. Thanks
Nice ramblas. There’s a ton of regional trails in that area with lots of options to customize length and difficulty.
I hope to add some more down that way at some point. I did a hike in San Clemente right when I was starting to shoot video. I left my camera at home that day. Ever since I’ve been meaning to go back and properly shoot it. Hopefully soon.
For once there is a video made on this hiker! Nice video and music choice
Better late than never. I’m glad to add it to my collection.
Not many teepees have been spotted on hikes in this neck of the woods
I like to imagine that I stumbled upon an undiscovered tribe. But that thought was fleeting when a UFO landed and Bigfoot came out of the ship.
From road walking to bushwhacking this hike has it all
so it's a loop hike? you went up the right side and came down the left side?
Yes. You can go either direction. Or even just an out and back if you prefer.
Do you know if any of this was affected by the Airport fire?
I don’t know for sure, but in looking at the burn area maps online, these two hikes are outside of the burn zone.
@ good to know thanks
Crystal Cove end to end from Moro is great too, plus there is a bar about mid hike,,,,
I’ll get there eventually. Feel free to order a drink for me there.
