Did you replace the rear axle for the full float 10.5 or did it come with that?

We have a 2001 K2500 8.1 Suburban. They don't make a vehicle today that I would trade it for.

The vehicle appears to be far overloaded (I can't imagine it being anywhere near being below GVWR) AND pulling a big trailer, in nontrivial terrain, probably shouldn't be surprised that the drivetrain broke. That looks like a LOT of mass for only one vehicle to try to move off road. Maybe it's time to use 2 vehicles? At the very least one could recover the other if stuck, and if one breaks you can at least use the other to go for parts, or help. Much easier to maneuver and park and more places you can go if you don't have a trailer, too.

You can swap the rear with a 9.5" SF 14 Bolt pretty easily. It's bolt on but needs a conversion U joint. They came in GMT900 Avalanches/Escalade and have 4.10 gears from the factory. Have coil spring mounts and everything matches 6 lug GMT 800 stuff. Sadly still typically G80 though the 14 bolt seems less problematic than the 10 bolt. Looking forward to see where you go with it.
