It’s 100% a cult. You can identify it as such because criticism of the method leads not to a discussion about the method itself but to an almost reflexive defense of the leader. This is a hallmark of cult-like behavior: the conflation of the method or ideology with the person who created or popularized it. Cults often require a deep personal investment in the leader's infallibility and the exclusivity of their methods. This goes beyond mere admiration or respect-it's an almost sacred reverence. When followers believe the leader offers the only solution to a particular problem and dismiss alternative perspectives as misguided or inferior, that's a strong indicator of cult dynamics.

I have discovered that Microsoft Copilot can generate a detailed explanation of the grammar for any Spanish sentence you give it. I am now using this in my translation exercises. I plan to translate several Spanish books to learn to read. I also use Duolingo and Pimsleur. I will probably use comprehensible input but only to train my ear for Rioplatense Spanish. I don't think there any apps that use the dialect spoken in Argentina.

Another thing to think about before you pack is what you're going to be doing on your downtime. Like you said theres a lot of it and the amount of people i saw who'd basically still spend the majority of their days on social media was mad. Easy to do though if you dont know what else to do. Kindle was an essential for me as otherwise youre at mercy of the hostel book swaps 😂 Got genuinely excited for you watching this, what an experience youve got ahead !🤠

A lot of input is necessary for progress. Speaking from day one, workbooks, grammar, flashcards, etc. are all very effective too. Comprehensible input is silly though. Intentional practice is far more effective. Its well researched that CI is not an effective way to learn (they call it acquire 😂) a language. IDK know why ppl are so into it, maybe because its hyped as "easy".

One of the best things I ever did was go travelling. Didn't make content but used the time to get a qualification and it straight up changed my life. Hope you got her number bro hahah

Apps can be good for acclimatiing a new script. I really benefited from Anki in reading New Testament Greek. I found that by looking at a word and getting the word right I ended up massively speading up the reading, so I think that has value and Duolingo might have the same value - I might try Duolingo for the Hebrew script.

When is the right time to talk is an irrelevent question. Either do what DS folk recommend or follow your own instincts like you have. When is the right time to read is a different mater entirely. I don't agree with the opposition to reading early on, sorry! And in your case you did do some reading, if only duolingo and text books etc. I think of language learning as a pie chart. You can learn by mainly reading, mainly listening - it doesn't matter but you probably should do some of both according to your own interests. Spanish is written down in a fairly simple way related to speech. I can imagine reading at a later point would not be too bad in Spanish. But English or French? The written system has elements that the speech system doesn't in French and English has its own problems (as we know). One slight criticism is the idea of the amount of time. A lot happens in the brain when a new language is encountered and we aren't always aware of how our own brain is working things out. Some exposure every day may be more important than trying to get many hours. That said there's the commute, break time and such so really one can rack up quite a lot of hours relatively easily. Quite a few people do DS along with other things an I think that's probably good. That said the DS materials are really good. It ccan be a really good phase of learning, so I feel fairly positive about it. I watch some videos but my learning is mainly reading (comprehensible input of course). Finally, including you (!) I've seen people do videos of really good progress and who feel really good about the process. That's always good to see. If you can joke, understand things and follow conversation that is fluent enough as far as I am concerned. Errors always be there.....

I have started learning English from 13 months by using English offline course and watching videos on TH-cam and now i see a tremendous improvement in my listening skill but not the same improvement in speaking skill is that normal? And i always in my free time i watch videos about learning languages so when say searching about languages learning is not language learning it’s hit my really hard so I’m going to continue learning English in 2025 and i hope to reach C1 level or maybe i can speak effortlessly so hope my good luck

I created a new TH-cam just for spanish,and i also changed my phone and laptop language to Spanish, now i know alot of words just by using my phone.

I really appreciate that you mention things you don't enjoy doing yourself, or that you don't see as much value in, knowing that there are different people out there who might want to explore different options. Very valuable video! The tip about the exchange partner is honestly brilliant. To reach my current Spanish level, I watched tons of football games from La Liga fully in Spanish (huge Madrid fan), played games with people from Spanish-speaking countries online with voice chat rooms, read Kylian Mbappé's book more than 10 times in Spanish, and watched the Netflix show LALIGA at least 20 times and of course Anki (no surprise I guess). I decided not to add a new language for now, as I still want to improve my Spanish, Korean, and Thai in 2025. The truth is, there is no end to learning, and even if you're at a comfortable level, maintaining it is actually a whole other journey.

I agree with the looking up words thing. Some words it doesn't matter how often they come up in the videos I just don't seem to understand what they mean. También for instance. Looking it up just made things make so much more sense.

Really interesting point about picking an exchange partners who's worse than you so that you default to your target. Ive fell into the trap before of trying to do an exchange but it was 90% english, gave me a false sense of achievement. Such a great time to try and learn a language with all these resources out there. Hoping 2025 will get my spanish next level 💪 cheers for breaking it down

Hey man, really appreciate you putting yourself out there like this. I have especially enjoyed your recent videos with Sandra from DS, and may even suggest to the DS team to record some videos like you did with her. They were great; very comprehensible as well as interesting. And I think for my part, what really helped me understand the content better than some of the conversational videos in DS was that Sandra stuck to a pace that was comfortable. And because she was speaking with you; a student, I noticed very obviously she didn't speed up like a lot of the guides have a tendency to do when they record conversations with each other. In fact, I have found at almost 800 hours that I can often understand advanced videos of particularly Agustina and some of Alma better than a lot of the intermediate conversations in the archives. Anyhow, thank you for doing this; I find that it definitely takes some courage to share ourselves in this way. Greetings from David in Wisconsin.

What Language are you learning or planning to learn in 2025?

Bruh the Pablocito Doulingo bird had me dead. Imo Dreaming Spanish's value-add it that is it's an easy and low-effort way of learning Spanish. If you don't like it, don't do it pretty simple. Or you can be like the Refold guys and use it as a supplement to Anki, basic grammar study, and reading from the start. Or you can stick to 'traditional' methods like plenty of other people. No matter what, you're going to have to put in time and risk that what worked for someone else won't work for you. As for me, DS has worked better than I could've hoped for so I'm very grateful for what the team there has created.

Was this inspired from the reddit? 😆 happy to have found ur channel! I'm at 470 hours more or less and I'm so happy with my progress. I've been documenting my journey too. It is a really genuine community.

I am currently at 1450 hours of Dreaming Spanish comprehensible input. For the past few hundred hours I have also watched other CI channels in Spanish. I do CrossTalk twice a week with my friend in Madrid. I can understand about 80% of what he says. I am just starting to speak a little bit. In my case, maybe because I am older, I think the DS road map is too optimistic. I will need another 1500 hours to be comfortable with my Spanish. I tried a number of traditional language learning methods in the past, but nothing stuck with me. I would forget what I learned, unless I constantly reviewed the material. Finally I found DS and it felt natural. I am not a DS purist. I do use Language Transfer The Thinking Method and I find it complements DS; it is also quite different from traditional language methods. From what I have heard and read from other DS users, I don't believe DS is a cult for most users. Most people look up words and grammar when they are ready. Thanks for the video. - Dave
