Is she still around?
There was tok-tok mee in Chinatown in the 1960s. Whenever we visited our eldest sister who lived there, she would order tok-tok mee to treat us. She stood at the window and hollered at the boy to place her order. The lad would deliver the hot noodles to doorstep. I remember it was dried yew-mee or mee pok with fish balls, sliced fish cakes and char siew. I don't know what the mixture of the gravy but it was very nice. Those fish balls were made of fish meat, unlike today's ones contain 90% flour.

Could have been an interesting episode but cut short.
I love nonya dumplings! The last time i visited singapore in 2014, i found one store along Belestier road. Yummy....
He is a very positive man!
The quilts are amazing, I did not know each shape was also hand made from fabric scraps. I want to have an egg tree all year round. :D
Very interesting to see that different taps meant different dishes so those ordering from above could know. I know it is safer and cleaner and more convenient to have "hawker centres" now but the charm of the roving hawkers is lost and that is sad.
These videos of your elderly are amazing, heart warming, and the people in them are impressive. I hope their precious things/memories are well treated even past their deaths, may that be many years away!

I was there in February 2012 and had both haircut and shave... Funny enough I had seen this video beforehand and I was stoked that AK was the one (of almost a dozen barbers in the shop) to give me a haircut and a shave. My haircut was perhaps the best I've ever had (I'm 38) and the shave was a bit rough but decent... The massage and the service in general was fine, too... As for the video, I just love it!
I was a regular customer untill Jan 2012 when one of the old gus there ruined my hair instead of doing my regulat flat top he decided that no 2 ay top and no 1 on sides and 7 min quick job was enough. So then another barber finished and corrected the cut but it was too short to correct. I still paid $15,00 and walked out in tears. I expected A.K. Kandasamy not to charge me or offer my next cut free, I am still waiting. I love barber shop and looked forward to my shearrings there every 6 weeks.
Good job guys...thank god for subtitle though....
Fantastic video! Thanks for posting this. I am actually going to Singapore two days from now. All your videos are great inspiration!
Madam Goh looks so warm and good :)
