Orton Glow Utility
มุมมอง 1.8K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
My new Orton Glow Utility has reached version 1.0! I finally got a functioning preview, which makes it so much more useful. I removed the LRGB the development version was applying. I felt that the whole point of the Orton effect was that dreamy glow and the LRGB was muting that, so instead I have changed the recommended opacity values to make it a nice and subtle effect. In a future version I w...

    Thanks--watching this after seeing Adam's a few times, you have brought out the adjustments in ImageBlend a bit more clearly, at least for me. As much as Adam deserves kudos for his work, I think the real unsung hero here is Mike Cranfield for his amazing scripts. Not far behind is Frank quite honestly. We all owe them a lot! And you as well for creating content like this that helps us lesser PI users learn and improve our processing skills.

    awesome Paul. This made more sense to me than AB’s video. How would you approach getting more detail in the structure?

    • @PaulymanAstro
      @PaulymanAstro 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In general, I would create a luminance layer to work on. That way I could independently work on the sharpness and contrast. In the case of my data I would have combined the Ha and Sii for the luminance as they had some really nice structure. To boost the fainter nebulosity in my data I would produce a mask to isolate it and then do some careful stretching with GHS. I’d do that for both the colour data and the luminance data.

    Whats the music on the intro? Still working on finding an appropriate image that really shines with this script.

    • @PaulymanAstro
      @PaulymanAstro 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly I think it won’t start to truly shine until I can work in some masking. The Orton Effect as it stands will apply equally to the darker regions and the lighter regions. So if you have any nice dark nebulosity in the image it can brighten that as well. That’s not to say you can’t create your own mask now and apply it to your image before applying the script. The music is a piece of stock music from Envato Elements.

      Thanks mate. Hope you like the script. It wouldn’t exist without your inspiration. It isn’t on par with PS at this point, but I have just learned how to apply masks within scripts so I’m hoping that’s where the more subtle magic can start happening.

    • @PaulymanAstro

      The 403 message occurs when you try to directly access the page using a browser as there isn’t actually a webpage to visit. However copying the address into the list of repositories in PixInsight will allow PixInsight to access the appropriate files it needs to download. But I am in the process of adding an extra section to my website where you can directly download the scripts.

    • @PaulymanAstro
      @PaulymanAstro 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Foraxx Palette Utility greatly simplifies the process it does all the heavy lifting in the middle section of the video. It creates the synthetic green, does Foraxx and adjusts the hue and saturation for you automatically. Basically everything from 29:53 to 39:35 is done with my script now. If you also switch out GHS for the SetiAstro Statistical Stretch script it is even easier still.

    • @sarahjanereilly9335
      @sarahjanereilly9335 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Perfect - that’s what I hoped you would say! As a ‘L’ plate operator, it is always awkward fining slightly older videos and working out what has changed. New scripts seem to be coming on thick and fast these days, but without the older building blocks, it can be a bit confusing, especially with the 2 x dual band filters on an OSC rig. I have Frank’s scripts (his videos led me to you), so will experiment with that workflow. Thanks again.

    • @PaulymanAstro
      @PaulymanAstro 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I managed to reproduce the error. It occurs when either you don’t press the “Create Duplicate for Glow” button or you do press it but you press it too soon after choosing your image from the drop down. The script does some quick processing for the preview when you select an image from the drop down and I have found if that doesn’t finish (you can see it happening in the process console) then even though you press the create glow button the glow image isn’t created. Once the preview has updated pressing the create glow button again should work. I will have to do some debugging of the script for the next update and will likely set it up like Foraxx Palette so that you can only proceed once previous steps are complete and the script will only finalise if all conditions are met.
