What was the point of lowering the ladder if it wasn’t going to help get her out of the water? That was the most ineffective rescue I've ever seen! Nonetheless, thank God to all who helped to save a life.

Swimming from the pier to Marina Park in heavy surf is no joke. That lifeguard is lucky to be alive. I remember that day. The area he had to swim has a lot of jetty's down the whole beach. And bad current like a river when the surf was as big as that day.
