How to safely use a Wiseman traditional style flute case
The Wiseman traditional style flute cases are the safest case out there under $500, but it is different and takes some practice to get used to how the parts of your flute plug in to their sockets.

Rudall & Rose Part 12: Linkages
มุมมอง 397 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this episode I fabricate the linkages between the keys so they can move together as they are supposed to. Have an antique flute in need of repair? Visit www.woodwindfixer.com. Visit stephgeremia.com to purchase Steph's recordings or to find out where to see her live.

Suddenly, upon assembling another key, it turns out it is too short on one end! What to do?!

I'm not dead yet! Sorry for the prolonged delay in continuing this video journal of this project. But here is the next installment. Constructing keys one at a time and making them all nest together just so.

Rudall & Rose part 8: Holes, rollers, and screws
มุมมอง 1472 ปีที่แล้ว
In this installment of the ongoing saga of the low Bb key building project for the 1840's Rudall & Rose flute I show how I made the precise holes for the touchpieces, the fancy screws required, and the rollers. The work shown in this video pretty much negates all that was demonstrated in part 7 (sorry), but don't forget how to use that edgefinder. #woodwindfixer #AntiqueFluteRepair #Machining

Key Stamping: The Home Game

As part of the Ronnberg flute restoration project, I need to replace a couple of the pad cups on a couple of keys. The goal is to make replicas that can stand up to the arm's length test. Since money and tooling are finite commodities, I had to break this task down into easy to swallow morsels. This video shows the nuts and bolts of my approach to replicating these ~160 yr old keys.
Prepping for a flute overhaul. Part 2: Mechanisms

In part 1 I talked about what I look for in the instrument from a surface level before I tear it down. In part 2 I pull it all apart and talk about what I scrutinize in the mechanical systems of a flute when getting ready to overhaul it. #dustbunnies Check out part 1 here: th-cam.com/video/-E6803NTVnM/w-d-xo.html Check out a synopsis of pivot screw details here: th-cam.com/video/6bD-X_hLUDI/w-d...
Modern Repair on a 170 yr old flute--Siccama Thumb Key Pt 2
มุมมอง 7112 ปีที่แล้ว
When we last left our flute fixing hero he was in the grips of indecision and angst over how to proceed with this repair! All the prep work is done, but now what?! Will he mount it in the milling machine, carefully dialing in the taper of the body tube and indexing the post holes properly? Whatever will he use to obtain proper orientation with the critical tonehole all cracked and distorted? Wi...
Modern Repair on a 170 yr old flute--Siccama Thumb Key Part 1
มุมมอง 2282 ปีที่แล้ว
This 170 yr old flute had a fairly old DIY repair that wasn't quite good enough. The proper repair needed provided the opportunity to show some techniques combining time honored processes with modern materials. In part 1 of this repair I evaluate the damage and go through a lot of the machining steps preparing for the surgery.
Making a hinge reamer
มุมมอง 5222 ปีที่แล้ว
Proper fitting of keys in woodwind mechanisms is one of the most crucial details to insure the longevity of the instrument. If you ask 10 repair techs about the process they use for fitting keys you will get 12 different answers, but the majority are likely to include the use of precision reamers in the process. This is how I make custom reamers for some of the key fitting tasks that come acros...
