Steel Seal Was I Wrong About It? One Year Long Term Test.

Hello and welcome to the channel!
Here at Real Time Reviews we normally review tools etc. Over a year ago I ended up with a blown head gasket on my old Nissan Micra, after a water pump failure. Its an old car and was not worth the bother of throwing a load of money at to get it repaired. So a mechanic recommended trying a bottle of Steel Seal head gasket repair liquid. In the original video I wasn't 100% convinced it had worked. But over a year has passed have i changed my mind?

    Think it really depends on how bad the gasket was. Driving it home under the circumstances you described originally probably made the difference in hiw effective it was. Nice to see an update. Would hatebto be replacing a gasket after this was used though 😂

    I just watched a Scotty Kilmer vid on the stuff... he gives a couple of tips on making it work better in it (remove the t-stat, find the cyllender with the offending leak, remove the plug and injector wire from there, let idle for a half hour, let cool, repeat four or five times). I am going to try it... nothing to lose.

    You need to figure out which cylinder is causing the issue by either checking the spark plugs to see if coolant is on one of them or run the engine with one of the spark plugs out at a time and disconnect the fuel line for that cylinder and then check to see when the coolant stops bubling, once you figure out which cylinder the bubling stops at you need run the engine for 30 min with that spark plug out as there will be less pressure and should seal better, there are instructions on the website as the method you used works best for external leaks not internal leaks as you have backpressue (bubbles in your coolant), hope that helps

    I’ve got the 40V version of this. (Actually it’s 36V but in the US they can BS on their advertisements). I’ve found the motor head could really use a blowout with compressed air from time to time. Dirt and debris gets in there. I got mine used on Craigslist a few years ago after aggravation of trying to start a gas one. They run the 18V versions like you have on sale from time to time for $50 with a battery is which is not a bad deal. I’m a big fan of Ryobi stuff. Got their 40V mower and blower as well. 18V stuff is the inflator sawzall circ saw drill stick vacuum and fan. All good stuff. Take care.

      It works if you change the oil first, put in the Steel Seal, run it for 30 minutes, cool it down for 24 hours, change the oil and filter again and flush the radiator. That's what I get out of all the comments so far on half a dozen videos about Steel Seal.

      @@jahill7965 Why change the oil first?

    • @jahill7965
      @jahill7965 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dhalsim-1 because the oil may be contaminated with water from the gasket leak or other additives. Also, the water may be contaminated or even worse it may contain coolant/antifreeze. SS will not work properly with coolant.The repair will break. The system must only contain pure water. Once the repair is complete, and the car has been sitting for 24 hours, a second flush is needed to rid the system of any surplus SS which may be circulating in the system if left. It is very abrasive if it's allowed to circulate and over time could cause erosion to things like the water pump. Coolant can be added to the water once all checks have come back clear. The info came from the manufacturer of Steel Seal. I emailed them and asked a lot of questions because I did not want to risk stuffing up my Audi altogether.

      You are risking it not working as you aren't following the manufacturer's SS fine print. Up to you though but as long as you're aware that you are also risking your motor being damaged. This is what they advised, so I am going the extra mile because I am not prepared to risk going against manufacturer's advice and stuffing up my car. 😊

      With regards to battery life 20mins for the genuine one is probably about right. Although you do get a loss of power towards the end. And I suppose heavier cutting will drain the battery faster. This is apparent when using the brush cutter attachment on thicker weeds. I have a large garden which I look after, so next time I'm there I will only use my 2ah battery and see how far I get. But it's mainly used for edging on that job. 👍👍

    Nice video. The audio's a bit spotty, but it looks like it's still early days for your channel, and the video's still better than 90% of the other videos I've watched on fledgling channels. :) Anyway, The original full tool/battery/charger kit Ryobi sold USED to come with a 2 Amp hour battery (That kits part number was "RRS1801-L20G"), But the more recent kits have a 4 amp hour battery in it instead (RRS1801-140GK). I'm guessing someone at Ryobi noticed everyone moaning about this tools power hungry nature. You mention you use clone batteries. I've used Ryobi tools on home DIY projects for years, and have a mix of genuine and clone batteries. Most of the clones tend to only put out about half the marked capacity, and only last about 2/3rd's of the life of a genuine one before they're bin fodder, so cost wise, if you look at it as cost per holes drilled or feet of boards cut, the price of genuine batteries isn't really that much above the clones. That said, if I were a contractor and sometimes drills would go missing from work sites, I'd rather lose a drill with a 20 quid clone battery in it than one with a 60 quid genuine one. Horses for courses I guess. The best thing about the clone batteries flooding the market though, is that it's forced Ryobi to lower the price of the genuine ones a little. As a little side note. The cheapest option to get some Ryobi tools with a battery is to register for their online promotions newsletter..... Then wait. Every once and a while they have a special offer where if you buy one of their 5 amp hour batteries for £99 (Though that price sometimes changes) you can chose a free tool to go with it. Surprisingly considering you're buying direct from Ryobi, the battery isn't as cheap as you'll find it elsewhere, but if you're getting the 60 to 80 quid tool you want thrown in for free, it's still 30 or 40 quid cheaper than the comparable kit.

    • @realtimereviews8715
      @realtimereviews8715 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I didn't know that about the promotion's. Yes the audio in some places is a little rough because the internal mic on the action cam isn't brilliant. I'm trying to locate the little usb external microphone for it. So it should improve matters. Thanks for taking the time to comment. 👍👍
