Toyota RAV4 2010 clogged air conditioning condensate drain tube

How to unclog the condensate drain tube. Stop that sloshing sound when you make turns when the air conditioning has been running. Stop getting water on the passenger-side floor mat.

This was very helpful!!! Thanks for the video!
excellent video and explanation. I have a 2005 Rav4 and it is probably very close to the same thing for it. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. Cheers
Thank you so much for this video!! Just checked mine after a wet floor for about a week and it was filled with junk. Haven’t tested it yet, but I’m sure this was a fix!
When my floor got wet it drove me crazy but your video put me at ease, thank you and I'll get to it this weekend
Good luck. Let us know how it goes
Thanks for this great video. 2009 Rav4, so slightly different configuration. In my case, the hose itself isn't blocked. There is water dripping out of the sides of the plastic AC box itself. And there is also a small amount of water dripping onto the driver's side now. Is it possible that the opening from the box is blocked?
I pushed the wire hanger into the opening of the plastic box (where the top of the hose attaches), and dislodged the blockage in about two seconds. So much water came pouring out of there I could barely get the hose back in before the passenger side filled up like a turtle pool. Radical. Oddly, I hadn't driven the car in weeks, and this blockage pretty much happened out of nowhere. Anyway, thanks again. Super helpful.
Same boat as you, also 2009 rav4. I assume it was rain or my brother accidentally leaving an open water bottle in my car but it was the ac issue. A lot of water flooded the passenger side, a little on the driver side. 🤷🏾♂️ I was going to take a look but my brother's mechanic said he'd fix it for free for me. After he is done, I am learning to see if I can take care of this myself if it happens again.
So much explanation for melt bituminous tar.
The reason why I like this video is because it describes rationale of every action and mechanics behind how to use a kettle by creating your own diy style kettle. This video gives more insights on how professional kettle works without owning a professional kettle. I do have Barbq grill myself and indeed I don’t want to spend $1500 for professional kettle. This is a brilliant idea, in fact it makes me want to play more with metal related projects.
Glad I could help. Please be careful
The question is where did you get the tar.

Took about 3 minutes total. I used the old coat hanger to unblock build up. Then rinsed out the hose. Thanks Bill!!! Great video 👍🏾
Stevens Creek Toyota dealer charged my wife more than $200 to fix this issue while her 2018 RAV4 still under warranty. They said it's spider net clogged the tube so it's not covered by warranty.
THANK you so much! This worked for me. Mine wasn't clogged however, the hose was not down enough for it to drain! I lowered it and it was like the flood gates opened up! Now to by a shop vac and clean those soggy, gross carpets! Thank you so much! TH-cam for the win!
Great Video , I have a 2019 Camry with the passenger floor wet as well . Wondering if the drain hose is in the same spot ?
I just do not know Where the condensate drain hose is under the dashboard
Thank you so much! Definitely make sure you have a pan or bowl ready to catch the water when removing the hose the first time!
Having a Pan to catch any water sounds like a good suggestion.
Fast forward as your friend
THANK YOU GOOD SIR
Yay thank you just fixed my car because of this video
This was awesome!! Took me about 10 minutes and fixed the "whooshing" sound that I couldn't figure out. When I pulled the rubber mat up to get started, my floor was completely drenched..... had no idea. So clear and easy to follow - Thank you SO much :)
So glad I could help
Thanks.. I was hearing what sounded like a rain stick when I made certain turns.. then a wet carpet.... took me 5 min from time put the car in park to the time I jumped back in.. thank u
I gotta try this in my 06.. the water is dripping everywhere, not just the passengers side, but onto the drivers side too, and causing it to screech when I make turns. Left turns though, not right. Even if the fan is on without AC..
Could this also drip onto the driver side?
Mine dripped on the driver's side, and this fixed it.
Once the pan is full, it will condensate all around the HVAC. So it will all get wet. I also insert a plastic seal, and a lot of debris came out. Thanks Bill!!! From Argentina! Just fixed it in my son´s loveable RAV4 2010
Great video! I've got water on the floorboards on both the driver and passenger sides. Looks like it coming from under the center console?
Ok, good info but using 1000 words when 100 words would do makes too long of video. Good info though.
Madness, complete and utter madness. This is unbelievably dangerous, don't even think about it.
You are correct - do not try this
Thanks man, appreciate the help!
Thanks! Problem identified and fixed easy after watching this
That’s what she said
Thanks for the informative video exactly what i did, and sure the hose was completely clogged, i used compressed air it blew a chunk of dark rubbery stuff now it's clear, perfect easy fix
Bruh how many times are you going to show me what the glove compartment and the floor is.
Lol some need that
But there was NO doubt where you needed to be working. Sometimes I watch these videos and wonder where the heck they are in the vehicle.
What a nightmare of a video.
Sorry you did not like the video. Could you give me some pointers as to things I can do to make it better?
Bill Lawrence The video was fine. No one is expecting pro-level production for a video about unclogging a drain tube. Thanks for documenting your efforts and saving the rest of us a bunch of time and possible broken trim!
Bill Lawrence the content is great. And useful. I literally meant the video. I almost got motion sick. I know it’s tough. Maybe get a helper? Of course I know there probably isn’t much room. However, I bet you could improve it with better lighting. I don’t think that would be too hard. Anyway...hope your floors stay dry!
@@billlawrence5604 Some people are... ya know. The video fixed my problem in about ten minutes.
@@patricksquinlan1 thanks for watching, glad you were able to resolve your issue
Thank you!!!!!! This was an easy fix. I am grateful for you posting this video.
Thank you
Great video. I appreciate that you made your points succinctly. Following your lead, It took me 10 minutes to resolve this issue.
Thank you very much, great instructional video.
The world needs more people like you good man. Bless you 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Does this cause the AC to run slow and low when it’s turned on?
I suppose your AC performance could suffer if there is enough water and maybe dust entrainment. The main issue I had was water dripping out when I went around turns. To check your AC, you need to feel that the warm line is warm, and the cold line is cold. Otherwise, someone needs to hook of pressure gauge up to it
Bill LawOtr2 thanks :)
Please explain how it gets clogged. This happened to my 2013 Toyota Corolla. Is this a Toyota problem from engineering design or assembly?
Hi, this is probably caused by dust just settling in the tube. There is a portion of the tube that is not vertical. Some condensate water can sit stagnant in that part of the tube, and allow dust to settle and begin to form a clog, or a small insect might get in there and take a bath, and never leave. You just need to make sure the tube is clear, bye sliding a stick through the tube.
And yes, maybe Toyota could redisgn the tube orientation to be more vertical.
Dirt, pine needles, decaying leaves...
He did explain why at the end.
Bill- This was great, saved me some money, an hour driving to and from the shop next week, and allowed me to continue to use my AC in our 95 degree weather. I also want to thank Max below about the water running out. I found some old tubing and as soon as I disconnected the tube from the AC drip pan, I just ran the water out my old tubing I had laying around the garage. If you had not warned me about the water, another quart+ of water would have run onto the carpets. Thanks!
Won't about a quart of water come gushing out when you remove that hose? You'd better put a two liter bottle or a pan of some sort under there before you take the hose off.
Maybe if you were just running your AC for hours. I got no water as I was not running the AC on the day I finnnaly got time to do the fix.
You just saved me $100
