Island hopping - Britten Norman Islander - Vanuatu
Join me for a 7 leg trip across the beautiful country of Vanuatu (including an active volcano fly-by!), as we island hop to serve this nation, by moving people and goods from island to island, in the legendary Britten Norman Islander.

Disclaimer: This is not meant to be used as a model for a walk around on your Cessna Caravan. Many important aspects of a regular aircraft walk around have been purposefully omitted as they are deemed to be generic. Please consult your specific aircraft manual(s) for a detailed and complete walk around description. This video is for entertainment purposes only.
On the smaller islands, are you speaking on an ops frequency, or ATC?
On most of the outer islands, it's Class G airspace so talking on a common frequency.
I don’t know why you constantly refer to the aircraft as a ‘Britten-Norman,’ rather than ‘Islander’?
I know you stitched this together, bit looks very bad when the pilot climbs in and closes the door and the prop tether is still attached..
I hear you there, Duncan. :)
And thanks for watching!
Love the islander especially the piston powered versions.
Thanks for watching! :)
Damn Fine Views!
Geez, how do you make it thru everyday, has to be real tough. Stumpr1
I might need your help to keep going. You coming yet?
@@sachakaboha3246 I just started walking Westbound outta WPG yesterday. Give a bit to get there.
@@sterlingparkwaylol. Hop on a TEAMS truck on the way out. Might help a touch.

Tough Day! How do you make it thru these real hard days is beyond me..... Wayner in WPG!
I know. Sometimes I ask myself how I get through such harsh conditions.
@@sachakaboha3246 So Sad for you.....
Beautiful
Thanks for watching! :)
❤❤❤
Absolutely Fabulous 😍🤩
Does Unity Airlines still fly the Trislander? It says it’s still part of the fleet on the website but I know that info is outdated since it still shows JY-009 (the Islander that got mauled by Air Vanuatu Flight 241 6 years ago.) Also out of curiosity why is it only listed as having 9 seats? Lastly just out of curiosity how is YJ-005 doing? Believe this is old ZK-FVD for New Zealand.
Can you fly me a coffee over, I'll drink it warm, cold or 3 days old. Wayner in WPG!
Coming right up! Want a fresh croissant with that?
@@sachakaboha3246 Please, that would be awesome! Wayner in WPG 24C today and no rain.
Flying VFR or IFR?
We do both. Depends on the mission.
Very nice
EXCELLENT WORK POST MORE: I REMEMBER YOUR VEDIOS C208
Thank you for watching. I will! :)
Can we still use this plane?
Of course
I don't see an airplane...
Hahaha. Only you would make a comment like that, Dan. This was a stop at a remote island, the airplane was sitting on the grass strip, waiting for me. :)
Dan?????? Is that you? Vicker Chev Olds?
@@sachakaboha3246 How do you know Dan? Stumpr1, Wayner.

Fuck! Amazing this video turned 10 years old. Wow!!!
Great video !! Makes me nostalgic for Vanuatu !
Thanks for watching, Lucky Luke. :)
AOG passengers ☹
I think they are more like Mormon pax.

@@johnbrown-rm8kc Too bad. :(
how many deegree down on the flaps take off and landing? thanks darren
Hey, thanks for watching. There are only 3 flap settings on the Islander: zero degrees, 25 degrees, and 56 degrees. The manual prescribes 25 degrees for take off and 56 degrees for landing. Do you fly any airplanes yourself?
Great video. Love how you're describing your checks and thinking. I search on YT once or twice a month to see if anyone has posted some new BN Islander content. Was delighted to see this today!
Thanks for the view and the comment! It's great to know that it's being enjoyed. :)
Flew this thing for two years. Never again. Was fun but so slow. Well dressed pax's!
Haha. She's a noisy bird, that's for damn sure! Did you fly in Vanuatu or in another part of the world, Frank? What do you fly today?
@@sachakaboha3246 In the Bahamas. Did some crazy stuff back then! We took the Islander into just about anywhere. Even landing on beaches.Eventually moved to Europe. Flew 737,767,747, 777 for 30 years.
@@frankgallagher5786 Amazing stuff! Would love to see some pics of your time flying BN's in the Bahamas, if you have any to share. Those were the good old days, from what I hear. :)
@@sachakaboha3246 Sorry no pics.
@@frankgallagher5786 Ahh fair enough.
I liked the video..., the aircraft is beautiful.
Thanks Andrew! Do you fly as well?
Was this all on one [fuel up] tank?
No, we stopped to fill up on gas in Santo. :)
Kids on the runway. What the....
Kids playing soccer on the runway, adults taking a nap or having a picnic, chickens or pigs grazing, I’ve seen all of the above on our island runways. There are no fences, so it’s the Wild West lol.
No A/C? Static from Air Traffic control.
Haha zero AC. It takes up too much valuable weight in these little bush planes.
Wayner in WPG!
Thanks for watching, Wayner!! :)
Memories of the mid 1970s! I've done Tanna three times (Lenakel , before Whitegrass was built), Tongoa once; Lamap, twice; Lamen Bay, once; Norsup; once; Valesdir once; and of course Bauerfield; ten times.
That is so cool, Tim! Where you flying for Air Mi No Save at the time?
@@sachakaboha3246 I'm sorry but I didn't make clear - I'm not a pilot. I was a civil engineer working for the then Condominium and used to travel up and down the group in the course of my work ( sometimes by sea ). I never got further north than Norsup or further south than Tanna so it was nice to see the shots of the strip serving Aneityum. I loved flying in the Islander and the Trislander of Airmel. Thanks for this vid and your walkaround vid.
That’s amazing stuff, Tim!! So cool that you stumbled on my channel. Nothing much has changed here since the New Hebrides days. Are you in Australia? Do you ever come back here for holidays?
@@sachakaboha3246 Hi Sacha. I've lived in the UK since I left the New Hebs 46 years ago and no I've never been back. When I was young and fit enough for the journey I couldn't afford it; now that I can afford it I'm too old and decrepit. By the way, we are told that envy is a sin so if that is the case I am a sinner. I envy you for where you live and what you do for a living. The ideal job!
@@timothyfoster4714 Haha thanks Tim. So cool that you can re-live history through TH-cam like this. Glad I was able to make it happen for you. If ever you come back to this part of the world, let me know and we'll have to go for coffee and talk memories. I'm from the Russet family who has been in the New Hebrides / Vanuatu since the 1800's,
Salut, tu as pu faire marcher ta licence canadienne pour voler la bas, ou tu as fait une conversion locale? Merci pour la video.
Bonjour Damien. Non, j’ai fait une conversion locale. Un examen écrit et deux tests en vol.
@@sachakaboha3246 Merci
the background stock music is a tad bit annoying, but else thanks!
I don't disagree with you. I'll have a chat with the editor, about his choice of music. :)
Thanks for watching!
Interesting, how was that islander ferried there ?
There are lots of islanders here. They were all flown over.
You can't have too many Islander videos! Great to see real-world operations in remote locations - thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching. :)
Enormous thanks for sharing this walk around - I'm a huge fan of the Islander and fly it a lot in X-Plane 12! So much detail in your video, I'll probably do a livery of this very aircraft so I can fly it in the sim!
You’re very welcome. Glad it was useful to you!
Well done brother 👏
Haha thanks Jeff! Snooping my channel, I see 😅.
Nice demo sir, where is this place sir?
In the South Pacific. :)
