I grew up with the PS1 version of Rayman. I also played the PS1 version more times than I had with any other version, including the MSDOS version. I was trying to get the Atari Jaguar and Rayman original copies but unfortunately these days, prices have gone up so much, especially here in Canada that a complete in box Jaguar is running upwards of $1,000 and the game itself online and complete is running upwards of $300 - $400 which is insanity. I have a Sega Saturn and a copy of Rayman but unfortunately the game disc isn't working properly and doesn't launch the game, not to mention the emulators I tested the Saturn version with doesn't run properly at all so I'm at a loss for words. But, as much as I have played the PS1 version and yet to play the Saturn version, I'm playing the Jaguar version on the emulator and so far right off the bat in the first 2 levels, I've noticed MAJOR changes which is mostly due to the hardware limitations as pointed out the video. Music is different, the Mosquito boss in Anguish Lagoon has projectiles instead of seeing Rayman use his fist, and which I find perplexing, confusing and bamboozled... is when Rayman has the Gold Glove, when he's hit by an enemy or object, he LOSES the Gold Glove immediately which doesn't happen in the PS1 version. Even the ice physics not existing in the Jaguar version surprised me.

Was this why I had so much trouble with Rayman on my Gameboy Advance as a kid?? lol

It would’ve been cool if they did a port of Rayman to the N64 using the Jaguar version as a base.

I'm really enjoying this video, but it would be very helpful in future comparison videos if you could add some text to the screen denoting which version belongs to which console, when you're doing side-by-side comparisons.

I am starting to think it's not that the CD version is basterdized, but they ported an older build of the game, and the updates were not synced between the versions correctly.

This was a really solid video, very well researched and put together! My experiences with this game as a kid almost exclusively came from the Windows version and Rayman Advance, then later the PS1 version when I got a bit older. I had long since accepted the difficulty was just an unshakable aspect of it, but this video genuinely made me curious about giving the Jaguar version a try sometime.

Counterpoint: Tiny Rayman should exist, because he is cute and I want to carry him in my pocket

You guys, ABSOLUTELY are out of your mind exaggerating with your consideration of the difficulty of this game… I finished it when I was 9. With no internet, no guide or strat books or whatnot. It is hard but definitely beatable. Come the fuck on…

4:59 if someone just modified the Jaguar & made it either able to have internal sound capabilities or even be able to play cds so you could modify it to have the tracks from the PlayStation version or the Saturn version then maybe you could save it. Or you can just play rayman redemption which ported the Jaguar edition to the pc & more.

A real shame that they made it so much harder. Some things are straight up bullsht especially the level where you can’t see anything. They could’ve easily put a normal and hard difficulty on Ps1. A beautiful artistic game ruined by the difficulty. At least there’s the revamped version on pc

Y'know what would be sick? A Jaguar CD version with the CD soundtrack, and (potentially) the CD versions' FMV. Sounds like a potential easiest-to-recommend version, with the Jaguar's most salient downside corrected~

I'm only 2 mins in, but I also think that Jaguar Rayman was the best Rayman (well, it's the "original" version after all), but the music was dog sh*t. I'd love to see a cross between the Jaguar version with the PC music implemented
