      The 4-1 Germany got wayyyyyy outclassed for sure but their semi final encounter with the USA was a much improved performance and like I'd said in the video, if they'd just been more clinical in front of goal, they'd have easily put the USA to the sword. The what ifs nevertheless don't discount the efforts of the USWNT though because the fact that they ultimately went all the way and won Gold shows that yes indeed they are back.

    I think it might hurt it more since the licenses to leagues and teams could get split up. I think since EA added women to ultimate team they are gonna start working on getting more leagues in the game

    • @mismapasion
      @mismapasion 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very true, the licensing of teams and leagues is going to be a major factor in determining just how well the game can get itself off the ground. Whilst EA have women in FUT, they really haven't done much in terms of other modes and I think that's where 2K can really make a mark. I think many women's teams, clubs, leagues and players would be more willing to lend their likenesses etc. to something that gives the wider audience a better chance of playing as them. As much as something like FUT is very popular, there still is a vast majority that prefers to play offline and that's a demographic they can aim for with a women's mode for example.

    When the bigger clubs face the smaller ones at their home ground, several advantageous things happen. The smaller club gets a reference match. No matter the result, the club gets an idea of how far behind they actually are. It's a very valuable experience. Second, when the big clubs travelled to play the smaller ones this season, there was big enthusiasm surrounding the matches. A lot of fans showed up. More money to smaller clubs. And it has worked. The gap is much narrower than it was. Lyon used to steamroll everyone, not so anymore. And in this is the problem with this not so Super League: All these clubs people come to watch will be in the Star League. Most clubs will never have the chance to play them, since the road to that top is so narrow and hard. No chance for those experiences for the vast majority of European clubs. It would give a poorer landscape dominated by an elite. This UWCL season has been the best ever, cause it has shown us that European women's football has become more than France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and England. With the Super League, it would no longer have the chance to be.

    • @mismapasion
      @mismapasion ปีที่แล้ว

      You've raised some honestly fantastic and intriguing points that have got me thinking! For sure it is a potentially big problem if all the big teams compete exclusively in the Star League which could potentially kill any interest in the Blue League but I think there is a silver lining in that realistically not all the big teams would compete at the same time given the limited spaces so we will likely get some noticeable names in the blue league from time to time. For me though, the most important aspect is not only just to have small teams play big teams but for the small teams to get cross continental exposure as a means of expanding their horizons both on and off the pitch because I think it'd be a really valuable experience that allows them to grow and become more competitive as time goes by because they'll be learning from those matches whilst also gunning for promotions in order to generate more finances.

    • @bard6184
      @bard6184 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mismapasion There are less than 16 women’s clubs in Europe that has a significant international fanbase, and all those who do would be in the Star League. The enthusiasm around women’s football has grown, but it is frail. Lyon, PSG, Bayern, Wolfsburg, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus, and Roma would probably become de facto permanent members. If not immediately, then certainly very quickly. These are the clubs people want to see. With these powerhouses in a permanent private league, the locally strong fan base around clubs like Ajax, Häcken and Brann could dwindle quickly. Fans gone, money gone, players gone, performance gone. Fans want to watch their clubs to win, but they also want to see the them face the biggest clubs on the European stage. The UWCL provides both these things. And even if the best teams from smaller leagues did reach the Star League from time to time, ALL domestic leagues (including the top leagues) would suffer under the Super League. Imagine winning your first domestic championship. Meanwhile, a club you’ve just beaten in the league table is already in the Gold or Star League, while you are years away from that - at best. That is no meritocracy, and it would be very disheartening. I do agree with you that it is important for small teams to get cross continental exposure as a means of expanding. And that is what UEFA’s new secondary competition will give them. UEFA is far from perfect, but their competitions are much better for the growth of women’s football than the Super League. In my opinion.

    • @mismapasion
      @mismapasion ปีที่แล้ว

      Very valid points and I do agree that there is the high probability that the notorious big teams will monopolise the Star League which would water down the competitive aspect for the Super League which is an important issue to be addressed by the ESL itself in order to minimise it. Based on this season's performances though I wouldn't count on much of that monopolisation coming to pass as many big teams are faltering and unfortunately talent isn't so easily found in the women's game the way it is in the men's game which is a general issue that needs to be addressed by those in the women's game. I'm not quite sure what you mean however by domestic leagues suffering from participating in the Super League because fixture wise, the ESL intended to host it's games during the week in order to not disrupt the teams schedules but if you meant something else then please do expand on it because I'm really interested to know what you meant exactly. Admittedly there still hasn't been any clarity, like I mentioned in the video, surrounding how the ESL will determine which clubs get to enter the competition which is still a point of contention imo so I agree with you that there is no meritocracy until at least we are given more clarity on the issue itself. UEFA's new competition is a great initiative and gateway for smaller teams to experience European football but the current format also poses an issue of potential monopolisation of big teams that fail to qualify for the UWCL. If we were to use this season as an example Arsenal, Juventus & Wolfsburg would be in that new competition and the probability of either of them lifting the trophy at the end would be high. But it would also grant exposure which is important nonetheless. I also think it's important to note that in terms of support, women's teams aren't followed in the same way as men's teams in that whilst there are some who have international teams like you say, those that don't have that still have a large fan base at least locally, just take a look at the Hacken support this season in the UWCL. Playing in a competition like the ESL could help branch out their fan bases slowly but surely especially since qualification for that competition is much easier than the UEFA ones unless of course you automatically qualify. Overall, no one competition is better than the other because both are flawed in their own ways but I think the ESL at least as it is rn provides an interesting alternative that some clubs should at least consider before they decide on what to do.

    • @bard6184
      @bard6184 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mismapasion Let me first say how much I appreciate the civility and respect in this discussion. It is a rarity, as most interactions on social media revolve around hostile attempts to “win” or “destroy” the person they debate with. I’m not sure the big teams are faltering. I think the next best teams are simply much better than we thought. And that is surely progress. A progress that would be regressed by the Super League, where the big teams would be protected from the challenge from below. A real challenge that has proved fruitful - no team went through without dropping points. Benfica drew Barca. Brann drew Lyon. Both clubs came back from a 0-2 deficit in those matches. Ajax progressed from the group of death. And Häcken drew Chelsea and beat Real Madrid twice. The European women’s football landscape is much richer with clubs like this - and their fans. Like you say, there isn’t nearly as much support around the women’s game. That’s another reason we need Ajax that averaged the highest home attendance (16340) in the tournament. Another reason we need Brann, that sold over 8600 tickets for a single qualifying round match, more than half of what Barca has sold in the entire group stage. The Lyon match on the smaller stadium (3500 seats) was sold out in 20 minutes, and if their main stadium (17000 seats) had been open, I’m sure they’d have sold out that one too. They sold between 8000 to 9000 tickets against both Glasgow and Prague after all, so it only stands to reason. The Battalion (Brann supporters) even sent several hundred fans to Prague. UEFA was shocked. Such strong away support is unheard of in women’s football. I mean…you mention Häcken, and they do have strong local support, but it still seems like the least great of those three - and still their fans are better than most of the fans of the top teams. Häcken’s supporters, by the way, is dwarfed by the crazy support surrounding Hammarby, who won in Sweden this year. We would’ve seen nothing of this performance and enthusiasm if the Super League was the primary competition. And Hammarby illustrates why. If the Super League reigned now, Hammarby, who’s never played in Europe, would’ve been included in the Blue League - at best. With the CL, they will get the chance to immediately show Europe how strong they are both on the pitch and in the stands on the biggest stage. Immediately enrich the landscape further. I mean, this is a team that’s at least as strong as Häcken, who drew Chelsea in London. And, personally, I’m looking forward to seeing that crazy fan base in the CL. When Hammarby won the Damallsvenskan, thousands stormed the pitch to celebrate with the team - a woman’s team! It is unheard of. What I meant about domestic leagues suffering was not about schedules. It was about the race not only for the title, but for second and third place in the leagues where those leads to UWCL qualification. That race would be gone if the Super League was in place, and even winning the title would lose some of its glory without the added bonus of playing on the biggest stage. The absence of something to play for would lead to hopelessness. Performance in the league wouldn’t count anymore. Let’s say Chelsea, Arsenal, and the Manchester clubs have bad seasons, and some other club wins the WSL. The four big clubs would still play in the Star League, and the WSL champion would maybe get to play in the Blue League, Gold League at best. Doesn’t matter if it’s blue or gold, cause neither would bring Lyon or Barca to Liverpool and Birmingham. And a lot fewer fans would come. Furthermore, with the money from that Star League, the big clubs would ensure that the championship would soon be theirs again. The best deal every year, regardless of domestic performance. Very unfair, very frustrating for other teams. It kills the incentive to fight for results, since the results don’t matter anyway. And who would give a fuck if that was the case? No one, that’s who. No one would want to play for smaller clubs, and the gap between the top four and the rest would increase. With players, results, and any chance of glory gone, the fans would leave Liverpool, Tottenham and so on, and the clubs would fall apart. The end of the story? Only four clubs remain. Disaster for the domestic leagues. Playing in a competition like the ESL Star League might help teams like this year’s revelations (Ajax, Brann, Häcken) branch out. Playing in the Gold League, maybe. Playing in the Blue League, don’t think so. An I don’t think they would start in the Star League, maybe not the Gold League either. Een if they were starting at the top, I don’t think they’d be able to stay there, and gaining promotion from the Gold league would be no joke either. The ESL model also leaves little to no room for more underdog success stories. My Hammarby example illustrates why. And no one can branch out without an initial success story to start it off. In summation, I think UEFA’s competitions is vastly superior. To a much larger degree they: value sporting merit, value fans of all clubs, promote progress in all leagues, make domestic leagues a lot more interesting. This also makes the competition itself more interesting. Vibrant instead of plastic.

      @@bard6184 You have honestly and truly opened up my eyes with your exceptional insight on this topic! I concur with just about every single point you've raised and I've learnt a lot from it. Truly, if the ESL is to be something worthwhile then I really think what you have said must be taken into account especially in the name of growing women's football. Personally, I want the women's game to grow primarily from a fan support and global recognition standpoint because eh the example is Hammarby, there it's a wealth of entertainment and pride to be found within the women's game that is unfortunately being unfairly passed on by the general audience and true, the monotony of an elite only Gold League would highly scupper the entertaining and underdog factor from it unless you're a supporter of the teams involved. I sincerely appreciate this conversation and I agree with you that at the base of it all, the game should remain open to allow for underdogs to rise and giants to fall. My biggest gripe with UEFA was with how they were primarily taking their time to grow continental football in the women's game EG adding just two more teams in the new UWCL format and I really believe that such baby steps are more lazy than they are cautious because the women's game has grown enough to have more teams to participate in continental competition which was an opportunity that the ESL was presenting in spite of its stifling set up that it currently has that you have eloquently outlined. Personally, I really am going for the ESL to drive drastic change to UEFA via competition because I really think that the women's game is approaching a watershed moment that will determine it's trajectory for years to come. More than anything, we all just want all these players and teams to thrive at the biggest possible stage and both competitions can do that but UEFA evidently edges out the ESL as things currently stand.

'journalists' need to stop asking current players about the lack of black players in the 1st team and instead question people who actually have power in signing and developing players - management at the clubs and the FA in general. this is not just an arsenal issue, most black players in the league are not homegrown indicating a lack of effort in getting black kids involved in the sport in the whole country

      Thank you! I think if it they want to use this whole issue as a ploy to somewhat restart the super league then it's really short sighted because if I remember correctly only Barcelona and Real Madrid got the invites to that. The other teams would be in a perilous position.

      They do but at the same time, those players could have turned down the opportunity to play for the Philippines and still try out for the USWNT. Everyone starts somewhere and the fact that these women willingly chose to represent the Philippines shows that they are in touch with their cultural roots and rather than what is essentially a cog in a serial winning machine, they'd want the chance to be part of something bigger that they can also identify with regardless of whether or not they were born in the Philippines. It's ok to look outside sometimes.
