How having a squint affects your daily live

How having a squint affects your daily live
I am in the US. I have had strabismus since birth with nystagmus. I am recovering from my third surgery. None were particularly painful. The social issues are real but then so are the issues with poor depth perception. It is well worth the effort to have it treated.
Strabismus is a lifelong issue. It can cause physical, social and psychological problems. Because the eyes do not function as a team, depth perception can be problematic. It is difficult to judge where you are in space. To a normal sighted person small changes on the ground are easily navigated. But these can cause falls, twisted ankles or just plain clumsiness when your vision doesn’t fuse. Hiking or climbing may be scary especially when the ground looks closer or further than it actually is. The eyes have a difficulty responding to activity that requires strong hand eye coordination. Therefore any sport that requires the use of a ball can be difficult. Activities that use motion can cause vertigo and/or nausea. Swinging on a swing and amusement park rides can be disorienting. Driving can be overwhelming. They may avoid physical activity. For a child, this invites teasing and bullying. Having crossed eye can cause social issues. People don’t always trust you when you look shifty eyed. They often ignore your suggestions because crossed eyes must mean you’re not very bright. When your eyes are out of alignment others can’t figure out if you are looking at them and engaged in the conversation. Looking at your eyes may be uncomfortable or distracting to them. People with strabismus may learn to avert their eyes for these reasons. This further erodes social interaction. The stress of bullying and social pressures can cause depression and anxiety. People with strabismus may feel that there is something wrong with them, they don’t fit in. Because it is often a birth defect, treatments as a child may have been confusing, embarrassing or painful. They may have unanswered questions or misconceptions about care received as a child. This can cause a feeling of disconnectedness to parts of their own lives and complicate treatment as an adult. Strabismus may have also caused stresses within the family that can cause lingering questions and concerns. Because strabismus is thought of as a childhood issue, finding continuity of care as an adult can be difficult. Many insurance companies do not cover long term care with an ophthalmologist. Optometrists are sometimes unsure of how to approach a person with unaligned eyes. Corrections completed as a child, may shift or weaken over time. Redoing surgeries can be harder because of scar tissue. Binocular vision will be more difficult to achieve. There may be added visual issues added during aging. Strabismus is complicated with lifelong consequences.

how much do you charge? I have a squint eye when I was 12 years old and had a fall from the roof and injuries on my head and right eye and stitches. I then squinted my left eye within two years and then at the age of 19 years I noticed I can't actually see and was blind from my left eye. could you please tell me how much it cost to correct the eye squint and how many chances that I can get the vision of my left eye
What about ptosis....
🙏 can you help me I don't see one eye I won't change another eye I am 49 years old women
Yes if possible how much surgery charge
Did they do it (surgery/operate) while we were.sleeping?
Is it the redness will stay forever or just have in jus a few weeks?
Just say fucken say the fucken price for goodness sake
Am also a patient of squin eye
Is it possible to operate squint eye after 30 years which is from the start of birth?
Age or previous surgery is not a bar to having squint surgery. No one is 'too old' for this type of surgery. We have patients in our 70s and 80s.
Am I the only one that didn't hear wtf the price is 😒😒😒
Me too
Aside from squint and thyroid eye disease , it throws my balance off and thus affects my confidence among other things. It sucks.
Completely understand you but at least you're beautiful ❤️😭 lol
My confidence is damn, I can’t approach her, no matter how much I want to. It sucks.
What is the price
300 quid ab eye
3000 an eye
£5-6k
Can you please tell me that " Does our operated eye vary after the squint surgery for few weeks? If yes when do we get the final results and position of that eye ?. I had my right eye operated and the eye was at the centre for 8 days after surgery but now it is bit outward again. ( I used to have exotropia)
Share contact number brother
The eyes never really get fully straightened because it's a problem with the brain not the eye. Your brain can't use both eye together to create one image so your brain suppresses one eye which leads to a turn. Vision therapy can be very effective
Yes, last September and delighted with the result
Nice one!! I just saw this now
Forgot to answer some questions last year! I'm the guy from this video. Operation is painless, just feels a little weird at times because it's the eyeballs we're dealing with here. No big deal. Cost will be somewhere around £5000 which includes the operation, follow up consultancies, eyedrops + aftercare. It's pretty reasonable given you can pretty much book it all in with a week's notice. You can get this on the NHS for free with maybe a minimum 1 year wait, potentially up to 2 years. But I really wanted it done at a specific time in December where I wasn't going out much anyway. Couldn't be dealing with a big red eye in the middle of summer. In terms of getting out and about - some people literally flew back home halfway across the world the same day of the surgery. The eye does hurt a bit after (obvs) but nothing some ibuprofen for a few days won't sort out. No need for anything stronger. Only time it properly hurt was when I dropped something under a table like 4 days after the surgery and tilted way down with my head to find it. So try to avoid crazy upside-down angles. It's gonna be a weird sensation for a short time - your brain is basically dealing with new hardware. It's a good thing, it means it worked. Be prepared to become aware of muscle sensation behind the eyes you never even thought existed before. My eye is still a bit off, vertically, but those are separate muscles and a different problem that always needed another op. However the horizontal problem has been resolved and still is 2 years later. The eye goes out mildly when quite tired after a long long day. That's just how it is. But nowhere near the angles it was before. I do a lot of video/onscreen stuff and there's a vastly noticeable difference now. I don't think you can ever really get "perfect" eyes again if you naturally have a big squint, in terms of true binocular vision and flawless alignment. But you can drastically improve the situation for sure. Also fun fact, my eyesight was always pretty good despite the squint, and the operation actually improved it slightly more. So be prepared to change glasses prescription, possibly for the better :) P.S. It's also worth noting that, because there's a video of my progress, some people might think it's an exceptional or rare case worth highlighting. It really isn't, the video stuff was just done by chance and happened to be useful. Fairly sure the other two people getting the surgery the same day as me had similar results. One lad actually had both eyes done just before me and his looked fantastic. I promise I'm not being paid by the hospital, just giving the truth. Good luck everyone!
@@andreah7696 yeah for sure, yours are way less misaligned than mine were. We have very similar situations from looking at your video :) The consultant is Nadeem Ali at Moorfields
@@andreah7696 all good yes! Still have a vertical issue which is mild and I'd need another surgery for. But I don't care so much about that - horizontally it's still pretty much where it was right after the surgery. And it's been I think about 18 months now
Did your squint affect you in school as a child? Did you have headaches, dizziness or balance problems? Asking for my son
@@profmj7630 hey mate I didn't see this until now sorry. The only thing it affected was sports. Playing table tennis was fairly pointless due to lack of real depth perception, there's no way I'd ever be able to track the ball "normally", so always at a disadvantage in that regard. But otherwise no issues.
@pointless content thanks for responding! He just had strabismus surgery so far. it's help not seeing double. Glad we did it. Be blessed
How much painfully squient operate
Hoping to have squint surgery at Moorfields soon. Did you have prisms in your glassesbefore. Just wondering how to manage to drive after the op if I can’t use my old glasses which have prisms and have to wait for new prescription.
Did you get it in the end?
What does it cost
