An Teallach - Scotland's Most Spectacular Mountain?
Bidein a Ghlas Thuill & Sgùrr Fiona
Phenomenal day out.
Walk Highlands Route:
www.walkhighlands.co.uk/ullapool/anteallach.shtml
The route I did that bypasses the scrambling (if I was to do it again, I'd do it in reverse, the boulder field was brutal going down, would be easier going up):

Beinn Ime - Biking the Highest Munro in Arrochar
มุมมอง 2192 หลายเดือนก่อน
Beinn Ìme is the highest mountain in the Arrochar Alps of Argyll, in the Southern Highlands of Scotland. It reaches 1,011 metres/3,389 feet; making it a Munro. Quite a lot of hike-a-bike, probably won't do the route again, but it was a superb day out, loved it. Tough 44 mile / 5500 ft of climbing cross country loop, starting in Fort William. Some awesome views, some flash backs to the Caley Challenge I did in the 2010s (charity walk that covered half the West Highland Way in a day), was eaten alive by midgies, the weather was "mixed", and I got lost about 22 miles in. Absolutely loved it though :) Going back at the start of Aug '24 to do it again and ...

Filmed at the end of May 2024. Probably the wettest and windiest start of any year, it was chucking it down as we drove from Glen Affric to Kintail. In the hour it took to get there, the mist and heavy rain parted, and as the day progressed, the weather just got better and better. Stunning 10hr day (about 7hrs walking, 3hrs flying drones and moaning about forgetting the Haribo). Could see over ...

Spectacular, flowing single track, can't recommend it enough, some of the best I've ridden. If you're doing the route though (links below), and I'd recommend doing an out and back instead of a loop. The hike-a-bike after the 2nd bothy was brutal (especially in the snow, with an ebike), think it was about 1200ft of climbing. Yes. It’s very confusing. I often find that going the same road in a different direction very, very confusing. Everything looks the same, but different. I often have to call the AA and ask them what’s going on, but they just tell me to fuck off :-( You wanker. We should get a trip booked in for next year. Send me some dates you can’t make 👍

      @brianbathgate4944 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, yeah, sure mate. It’s fairly basic tbh, wouldn’t trust myself with electrics :-) I got the Renogy panel (link in the description) and that comes with a MC4 cable. My first portable power station was the Bluetti but I’ve since upgraded to an EcoFlow Delta 2. That’s got a XT60 solar cable input; so you just need the MC4 to XT60 converter and you’re ready to rock. Each portable power unit can have a different input connector tho so double check that before buying a cable. The Bluetti came with the right one but the EcoFlow didn’t. Being in Scotland, I wish I’d gone for the 2 x 200w solar panels, you can connect them together and maximise the input (search You Tube for “serial vs parallel solar” if you’re wanting a breakdown on that). The portable power stations are great, they just work out the box - which is what I was needing :-). If you’re looking at them, the Bluetti AC180 is a good option for a small van, or the AC200Max is a classic piece of kit with more power storage. Some good deals still lingering on the back of Prime Day too 👍

Sorrento, Positano, and Capri were all out of this world, love it. Scooter wise, you’ll be fine. The one we hired was in fine working order, and the roads were in great condition. It’s so much easier getting about on 2 wheels, some of the tight roads, when a cruise ship comes in, the roads get busier and the coaches are squeezing down the roads, their wing mirrors are touching :). On 2 wheels you can just cruise about without a care. Have a great trip! I need to plan a return trip:)

      Likewise Gaz, great to meet you. Absolutely cracking day out - delighted to finally finish the walk - we were beaten back by bad weather the first time we tried it :-). Glad the grapes did the trick with Monty! What was that hill in Torridon again that we were talking about?

    Great video thanks, perfect for what I want, keeps the van functional as a van still. Just not sure if I'd open the bulkhead a bit as we have dogs.

    • @brianbathgate4944
      @brianbathgate4944 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching :) Yeah, I debated about the bulkhead - def pro's and cons. With it in, I like the drive better, def a quieter drive, and it's better for stealth/wild camping - doesn't look like an obvious camper. The cab heats up quicker in the winter, but you do lose a bit of space. Having it open, ideally with swivel seats, really opens up vans like this. I hired a T5 a few years ago and that had swivel seats, but it was a nightmare, you had to undo 4 bolts, then try to swivel round 2 of the front seats - really awkward - took about 15 mins of effin and jeffin to get it done. My Ducato was brilliant, just hit a handle and spin it round - but that only had the 2 seats up front instead of the 3 in the Custom. Re the windows, totally get that mate, I was glad my mate did them for me. The windows I got were affordable and have been great tho - would recommend them (link in the description) - and watch as many YT vids as you can for tips and tricks. Tips I'd offer: I'd do the windows early on in the build if you can, pick up all the wee shavings cause the can cause rust. Make sure the surface for the bonding agent is crazy clean, I washed it with soap and water, then degreaser, then isopropyl alcohol - drying with a fresh microfibre cloth between each. Take your time, measure twice and cut once and all that :) have a spare pair of hand to help out, and you should be fine. Best of luck mate - feels great having a self build once its done :)

    Stunning video of my favourite ride in the Highlands.Have done it in all seasons but the snow was thigh-deep over the bealach when I did it last January. My preferred route is south-to-north from Loch Rannoch to either Tulloch or Dalwhinnie. Nicely done!
