Norfolk Fowlers
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 5 ก.พ. 2016
Several good friends and some guests embark on wildfowling trips, generally in Norfolk, UK. Some trips are conducted above the high water mark, inland on fresh water while others are deep and dirty on the foreshore in coastal mud and dangerous waters. We take all care to ensure we are safe at all times checking tide levels, predicted surges and air pressure as well as carrying a number of buoyancy aids should we need them. We use a variety of weapons including Beretta Automatics and Winchester Pumps, as well as old wildfowling pieces such as The Thomas Bland Brent Magnum. For retrieving game we use a Black Labrador, a springer and a cocker spaniel. As well as the hunts we will post some information and tips. We hope you enjoy the footage but please bare in mind we mainly use Go-Pros that make everything look further away than it is. NF
EP 45 - 2nd flight 2024
After 11 days off I'd had my first day office bound and with the weather turning a bit colder and windier, Zulu said we should head to the river. It was a great decision as the river had flooded the ronds and there was a chance for an early season teal.

EP 44 - Wildfowling Opener 2024
มุมมอง 14K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
First flight of the 2024 Wildfowling season on a fresh marsh looking for a mallard. There had been lots of geese about that morning but would I bag one in the evening.
EP 43 Pintail in the decoys - you won't believe how many we shot!
มุมมอง 2.4Kปีที่แล้ว
Alex has never had a Canada, so once he saw the one's I shot the day before he was keen to go the next morning. There wasn't the same amount of greylags there had been the previous morning but the Canada's were still using the same flightline, so he was in with a chance. Sadly his gun broke when he used a homeload steel shell and this put a dampner on the morning. We still managed a few birds o...
EP 42 Insane First Day on the Broad
มุมมอง 9Kปีที่แล้ว
The first morning on the Broad in terrible conditions, really warm, still, and mist/fog, I wouldn't normally have even bothered to go out but the Broad had not been shot yet, so it gave us a chance. Reports from a fellow member suggested that there were few birds using it but this was bad intel and it turned out to be a cracking morning for me and Greg, his first time in one of my videos. This ...
EP 41 Opening Day 2023 2024 Season
มุมมอง 4.1Kปีที่แล้ว
Well the start of the 2023/2024 wildfowling season kicked off and we started it up the coast, after a couple of years off while we shot inland. Lucky Tom was able to make the day so we met up around 4am before heading over to higher ground as the full moon brought with it a large tide of 9.3 metres. Reports had suggested the duck had not had a good breeding season, so this may have just been a ...
EP 40 Pinks on a frosty morning
มุมมอง 4.4Kปีที่แล้ว
A frosty morning, early January and I'd found the Pinkfooted geese on club marshes, only this morning they'd moved to exactly the marsh I was on with between 1-2,000 geese landing within 200 yards of me. There was very little wind and birds turned up at first light and then masses lifted off just before sunrise, all to flood on to the 10 acre freshwater marsh I was set up on.
EP39 - Beyond Expectations
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
An incredible morning on a Norfolk (UK) Broad. A slow start and low expectations were soon exceeded. Zulu had his first morning on the Broad and struggled with the plethora of decoys I had set out but made a few retrieves, with some help. An incredible morning decoying ducks with some geese thrown in.
Ep 38 Alex's first Greylag
มุมมอง 1.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
It's the evening of the 1st September and we are out with our new Labrador Zulu. After many misses last season Al bags his first Greylag and Zulu picks his first ducks. I was using RC Atomic Steel 1s & 3s. Alex was using Eley Biowad Steel 4s.
EP37 - EF at the coast
มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A video of an afternoon tide flight on a flooding tide which will just break the green on evening flight (EF). Jon bags his first ever Mallard and it was a stunner. Wigeon move around in their hundreds as the migrants arrive but will the decoys fool them into committing. Wind is from the North West but light and the cloud looks promising for a moon flight.
EP 36 - Al's on the Pinks
มุมมอง 1.8K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Two morning flights and one evening flight with Al targeting Pinkfooted geese, with some Whitefronts thrown in. Both morning's saw extremely strong wind so I apologise for the sound. We missed a few and dropped a few. It wouldn't be called wildfowling if we hit them all. These were some of the last hunts for Al this season but he enjoyed his first. I never expected him to bag a Pink as his firs...
EP 35 - Duck dogs and big tides
มุมมอง 3.9K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A big tide early season gave us the opportunity to try and decoy some wigeon that had just arrived in good numbers, with more pintail than usual. A fantastic morning with Merlin making some epic water retrieves, again!
EP 34 - Thomas Bland on the Geese
มุมมอง 9K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A freezing cold morning 1 mile off the coast but our hopes were high. We both limited on geese and managed to get some excellent Shotkam footage for this one. The geese absolutely piled over and we picked our shots to make the morning last a while, plus we also wanted to get under some Whitefronts, which unusually turned up in big numbers for the second year running. We had some bonus Golden Pl...
EP 33 - On the Broad in the mist
มุมมอง 5K4 ปีที่แล้ว
No wind and mist, not normally the conditions you want when out wildfowling but today the birds were about and decoyed well. We used the Shotkam for the first time but sadly the lense had fogged up. Merlin makes light work of 8 retrieves.
EP 32 - Can we shoot a Whitefront?
มุมมอง 2.4K4 ปีที่แล้ว
A long walk resulted in one of the best morning flights we have ever had with over a thousand Pinkfooted Geese in our decoys. Virtually every pack had a Whitefront or two in but could we pick out the smaller Russian birds from the Icelandic Pinkfeet?
EP 31 - Goldeneye Quest
มุมมอง 2.2K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Although I was having a great season I was short of a Goldeneye and in 35 years of wildfowling have never taken all duck species in one season. High tide was due in the afternoon and the wind was right to pull them up into my decoys but although I saw many due to disturbance on the estuary from a fishing boat they all stayed wide and time was running out.

I could be wrong, but I think with the whistle you're doing an American wigeon call, rather than a eurasian wigeon.
@@tomom2011 🤷♂️ I just try and emulate what I hear. I mainly try and emulate a sitting wigeon’s call. Hope that makes sense.
@norfolkfowlers1973 it obviously works! You're clearly plenty successful. I was listening to American TH-cam videos before realising that they have a different species. Good job as their wigeon are much harder to imitate
@ just a fantastic species to hunt but we just don’t have the open water the NA fowlers do. A lot of my shooting is over splashes at last light and I just can’t record that.
Love watching you guys brings back memories, you have got yourselves some good dogs there its all in the training 😊
looks to me as if you are not used to wildfowling.

Well mate good shot and a great retrieve by Zulu look forward to some more videos.

You don't really need heavy shot those geese are in range great video bud
Nice to see you’re still at it mate and keen as ever 👌🏻
@@Winston-oo1lu course I am mate. Recognise the coat? 😂
Beautiful shoot! Are there any places near you that offer hunting to hunters from the U.S.?
@@Ca_Tule_Ninja that’s a good question. We have very few guides in the Uk and I’m not aware of and waterfowling guides within 200 miles of Norfolk but there’s some in Scotland. You probably can get over insurance issues quite easily for $30. I don’t know how you’d get over shotgun license requirements but I’m sure there’s a way.
Is it not legal to use decoys?
@@TyphaDog by the time the birds move here it’s dark so they just wouldn’t see them but i do use decoys on morning flights.

Beautiful looking dog. Eyes on sausers just waiting for Dad to bring something down. Such a pleasure to watch. ❤
@@stevenlord782 thanks. They’re all so different. Absolutely gutted to lose Merlin so early but Zulu’s done amazing. Don’t think any dog can replace Merlin on water retrieves though 😢
Just a suggestion Richard, take it or leave it, but it looks like you have the Go-Pro in wide angle. If you use narrow angle mode the quarry will be a bit more visible. I wish they had a model that went narrower still just for shotgun shooting.
@@CumbrianWildfowler I’ve no idea how to change that now. I think I did mess around with it a few years ago. I’ll try and find the guide and have a look at it again. Ta

@@norfolkfowlers1973 nice one Just joined a wildfowling club in Northern Ireland, enjoy your videos Could you do some equipment videos
Great footage and what a great dog.
What cartridges you find are best through your thkmqs bland for the geese?
Tungsten Matrix by Kent in a 1 or 3 shot, 36gm load - not made anymore so I have a few left and will then have to use Bismuth. It will take magnums but we were advised by a gun smith not to put magnum loads through it anymore.
Cock teal and cock wigeon!!
Great video. Just found the channel. What shotguns do you guys use?
Beretta A400 Extreme mostly, that’s the cammo one. A400 light in 3 inch. I pretty much only shoot 3 inch shells now. And occasionally I’ll take out my old man’s Thomas Bland 3 inch sxs. Thanks for the comment. 👍
Great content pal just discovered it today keep up the good work. What gopro you using pal looks real good quality I started a hunting youtube channel this year was using a cheap action cam but not up to much quality isn't great.
Thanks I’ll check and let you know. It’s quite an old basic model. I probably need to upgrade and would use a couple but it takes ages editing this stuff as it is. 👍
Just checked and it’s a Go Pro Session. Was about £160 when I bought it three or four years back.
As long as you boath had a fantastic day together father & or daughter its such a grate day i think i take my lads fishing catch or not we enjoy our day out and if you dont catch or shoot something hay young man you can always blame your dad works for my kids 😝👏👍
Spot on. 👍
Why are you filming shooting pintail when NE are considering banning the shooting of these birds?
I think you’ll find I was filming us missing Pintail not shooting them. Also, it’s 100% legal to shoot this species and their world wide population is not under threat. Pretending we don’t do what we are allowed to do makes no sense. If they are removed from the quarry list they’ll never come back as nothing removed ever does. Thank you for your comments though. 👍
Brilliant morning shooting
Yes even better when you don’t expect it. Thanks for watching 👍
Cracking video many thanks .
Thanks. Really appreciate the subs and likes as I only really do this for friends but it keeps me motivated to spend the time editing and publishing 👍
Nice mate.. I've had a couple of days there with the basc boat. 👍
At times it can be slow, but it’s awesome when the ducks want in. I also love the variety, as you can potentially have every species turn up in later months 👍
Nice vid again, thanks. Can I ask a question. I'm new to coastal wildfowling though not shooting itself. When fowlers say 'tide flight' what does that mean in terms of the tide. I have some shooting on two estuaries with lots of wigeon and am trying to plan shooting around the tides. Is a typical tide flight from Low tide up, when they are being forced up the estuary and channels? any tips would be appreciated Richard?
Great question and typically it’s when we have a big tide, the sea water goes over the green (vegetation) and the birds can dabble picking up all the seed. However, each estuary is different and I have some spots that shoot better at the bottom of the tide than at the top. I also have areas where the tide coming up doesn’t do anything. Learning your area of salt marsh is key and you’ll need to spend lots of time out, during different tides and weather conditions to learn what is best for each area. 👍
Great video as ever and a good start to the season. No luck for me on the 1st, alas. Lots of season left though.
Well thought I was on for a blank for a while. I’m sure you’ll get on to some soon. Need this weather to cool a bit as not really howling weather 😥
Bag me a pink this season!
I will try my best 👍
Excellent vid thanks. More please when you get a chance. Have you looked at the TSS loads/reloads?
I did reload many years back using hevi shot but had issues with my Mec and steel got better so I don’t bother but a mate gave me three and they were good. Bismuth is fine for what we shoot here in norfolk but I’d certainly use some TSS if it wasn’t so expensive.
Hopefully see more videos this season from you 👍🏻
@@baba-hx5td now I’ve found my Go Pro I’ll try to put more on. Thanks for watching 👍
Is that Cantley?
No it’s a Rockland Wildfowlers Marsh at South Walsham.
Used to shoot Chichester harbour a bit years back. Miss getting out on the tides, would love to start again. Based in NR4. Only ever shot one goldeneye, didn't taste too bad.
Very rare for us to get them inland but plenty at the coast. A lot of the coastal clubs have limits on distance so are hard to join but there are a few like Fenland that offering coastal shooting in north Norfolk and Kent also have some shooting in North Norfolk with no membership restrictions. If you want inland you’re spoilt for choice with Rockland, Norwich and Great Yarmouth offering opportunities.
Just found your channel. Great videos. That part of the world is somewhere I've always fancied wildfowling. Hope you had a good season. Cheers.
It’s been a funny one. Birds not doing what you’d normally expect, lack of splashes but the positives being Zulu’s surpassed my expectations and two leg rings.
@@norfolkfowlers1973 ah right. We had too much water for a long time that spoilt it a bit. The cold snap helped the flight ponds though. Did the cold snap benefit you over that side?
Yes cold snaps always help pull the duck off flight ponds and reserves and puts them in areas we can get into them. Most of the clubs I’m in have a lot of river wall which shoots well in cold snaps. Snows the best though and once again none of that this season 😭
@@norfolkfowlers1973 snow isn't very common now is it. Although we did have a bit here this season.
Well done Alex them grays where shifting
Your Bland has a Greener cross bolt, mine has straight edge screw grip with Churchill rib, 12ga 3" 1 1/2oz, F&F, patterns are very tight, my reload is Win AA 70mm case, Win red wad, 42grm BB or No.2(lead), 29grn Blue Dot, 1100 fps. Mild recoil, good patterns. No lead restrictions here.
Yes shame I can’t use the stuff in it that it was designed for, well apart from in the woods at pigeon. Very tight chokes and patterns bismuth and tungsten commercial loads well.
Good shooting, selected your geese and shot accurately, I have a Thomas Bland wildfowler 12ga 30" F&F 3" 1 1/2oz, Churchill rib, deadly pattern with No.2 for geese/ mountain duck and BB for fox. What model is your Bland?.
I was on the boat that didn't shoot that wigeon in the face lol. I hesitated because it would have landed in the channel behind us. Good but wet and windy day.
Got to shoot them in the face (we’d been watching too many Bobby Guy videos). Web went on the club marshes to get under those Canadas but by the next Wednesday they’d stopped flying through 😭
Blakeney?
Sadly not.
Blickling?
Slowley, near North Walsham. Lovely gamekeeper but too flat for my liking.
Wonderful day, met you and your mate about 4 years ago, haven't made it up there for the last couple of years. Great day!
Hardly been shot this year, can’t understand why members don’t use it more.
@@norfolkfowlers1973 I think that is across most clubs. Many of our clay shoots and marshes are down on visits.

Great video and a great memory for you and your lad! After watching your video on the Broads i have booked 2 days with The Rocklands Wildfowling club in late October for myself and my 14- year-old son to hopefully create similar memories. Can you suggest were the best place to set up would be and any helpful tips as we have no idea, having never been on this Broad before? Also, we are arriving the day before we are shooting for recon reasons, but we would have time for an evening flight that day if we could join a club on the wildfowl permit scheme. But which would be the best club to ask as there are so many nearby? We will be staying near Loddon . Many thanks ..ohh yeh my son has a 20 bore with Eley Biowad steel 4s as well and i have the same but 12g 3s.
Thanks and yes. Rockland also do day permits but everywhere is so dry at the moment. If you pm me on my Facebook page I’ll try and help as much as I can.
What 20 bore does your son use
It’s a junior Hatsan Escort I believe. It’s very small but can take 3 inch shells, not that you can get steel shells in 3 inch.
Well done great achievement Alex . You’ll soon be saying hold my beer dad I’ve got this one .
Lol he doesn’t even drink fizzy mate, he’s a cheap date, water and milk for him.
