This is the beginning of our 2024 trip to Rwanda, focusing on the Ubushobozi sewing, quilting and weaving Co-Operative in the city of Musanze.
Public schools in Rwanda are faced with a number of challenges and many potential students do not attend school. We visit with the children of that area who are now students through sponsorships in Musanze private schools. See our visit to one of their schools where the students show their appreciation through dance and presentation of a letter to Ubushobozi member, Serafin.
Jeanne Siporin and Laura Boyea founded the co-op almost 20 years ago to empower Rwandan women who wished to learn to sew and thus support themselves. See how far it has come! Now approximately 14 Rwandan women earn a living and health insurance for their families and several students have their tuition and school fees furnished through the Co-Op.
Serafin, the Rwandan manager and host of The Co-Op introduces us to its recent cultural education offerings, its accommodations for visitors, and its fabric and weaving products. Marcy Bright, Shiela Connor, and Holly Chorba, all friends of Ubushobozi, set their sites on furthering the Ubushobozi efforts.
