    The water supply of Constantinople has always fascinated me. I understand how the water came in - gravity. But how was the water pulled OUT? How were the fountains, mentioned in the video, fed? How did homes access the cisterns? Buckets? Archimedes screw?

    • @TheByzantineLegacy
      @TheByzantineLegacy หลายเดือนก่อน

      Generally speaking, the cisterns were above the main points of water distribution and then the secondary point, so it was supplied by gravity as a whole. Some places in the palace could have had more mechanical devices. For example Theophilus had automata in his mechanical throne, indicating the sophisticated level of technology used in the palace.

    One of my favorite spots in Greece. Partially restored - this complex is one of the few places which give you an idea of what Byzantine churches looked like, prior to the Turkish conquest. One of the best preserved churches in existance.

    Did this marvel finally reopened as a museum like before? What work has been done? On the outside it looks very nice (though it was before too) and has something been done on the mosaics ?

    • @baswiltink9522
      @baswiltink9522 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is a mosque again, the brickwork outside has been replaced, I guess ( but not sure) they installed new lightning systems in the narthexes. The main area is closed for visiting because it's a actual mosque now. Some people say you can go there, sometimes you get send a way by staff.

    Less than a minute of research would have taught you that this was in later Byzantine times St Thecla of the Blachernes Palace ('Αγία Θέκλα των Βλαχερνών), probably on the site of an earlier Christus Pantepoptes (Χρίστος Παντεπόπτης) church. Don't you care about the minimal necessity, for any pretence at intellectual honesty, to research it seriously and mention the history in your written comments and in the goddam title of your video! Occulting the Greek and Byzantine past is a strange way of underlining the Byzantine legacy.

      Osmanlı devleti Anadolu devleti olmaktan ziyade Balkan devletiydi çünkü… dikkatli bakarsak çoğu bayındırlık hizmeti Rumeli’nde yapılmış, Anadolu’nun uç köşeleri özellikle de duraklama sonrası maalesef “kendi haline” bırakılmıştır.. bundan dolayı Selçuklu, Roma ve hatta antik medeniyetlerin kalıntıları Anadolu’da daha çok görülmekte Osmanlı’nın kalıntılarına kıyasla
