Sadly all 2024 cars now have those annoying warning bells and whistles to pass the ancap test. I wouldn’t mind if you could shut them off permanently, but every time you start the car you have to shut them all off again, as you know. I will stick with my 21 model Ranger for that exact reason, they would drive me nuts. Thanks for the update

Just returned from 6 months around Aus in my 2023.5 V6 Sport towing a 2.5t pop top. I used a scanguage mainly to keep an eye on temps and EGT and did not have one problem (ARB bar fitted). Always used Tow Mode and the car was faultless with an average of 16lt/100. Am very happy with it and now consider it superior to the Prado it replaced. One tip - DO NOT FIT AN ARB LONG RANGE TANK!

  • @ianmoone2359

If you have a EGT gauge, you can monitor exhaust gas temps to know when EGTs are getting too high & you need to drop gears. Also a trans temp sender & gauge will allow you to also monitor the temps of your trans fluid. Yes you need a trans oil cooler fitted. You should aim to keep trans oil temps at no higher than 80c You should ain’t to keep EGTs below 450c. For short bursts it’s ok up to 550c If EGTs reach 650c you’re approaching the point at which alloy pistons start to “creep” (deform) just prior to melting. I had a 2004 F250 with the intercooled 7.3. I fitted all the above mods and I towed ~ 4+ tonnes up a mountain range (Cape Range into Exmouth) in 45C temps with a 40 knot headwind, and temps started getting out of the limits. There were landcruisers & trucks etc, anything that was towing was parked up on the side of the road, with bonnets raised and steam billowing out. I had prepaired ahead for just such eventualities & had about 200 litres of water onboard in a tank fitted with a 12V deck wash pump switched through the dash, and the water was plumbed to two garden misters behind the grill in front of the 7 radiators, intercooler, air con, oil cooler, trans cooler etc. When I switched the water misters on, the effect was immediate and dramatic. EGTs dropped, Engine temp dropped, trans oil temps dropped, even the air con started blowing 10 degrees cooler. We sailed on in to Exmouth without needing to stop like everyone else who was towing. Without the water mister I reckon we wouldn’t have made it. I only used it sparingly when actually needed. The moment we crested a hill & started to coast downhill I’d switch the water off. Can’t emphasise how well it worked. Probably something you could rig up with say a 20 litre Jerry can of water and washer wiper bottle & pump, for extreme circumstances like this one. Just a suggestion.

I'm amazed a lot of these utes and fourbys don't have a standard large transmission oil cooler. My Volvo d5 xc60 has a large intercooler and tranny cooler standard and have towed it's 2 ton limit in extreme heat with no problems. It also has a kerbweight of 2 tons.

  • @johnnumbat9782
    @johnnumbat9782 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks for the feedback - apparently this gen and the previous gen are notorious for transmission/engine overheating while towing - a transmission cooler may be the solution because Ford run the engine coolant lumping through the trans as a way to cool the transmission but I suspect is going to be hot coolant.

@@r2kadventures thanks for the reply. I know your car is entirely different to mine. I have a 200 series land cruiser. I also have a scan gauge. I tow in sports mode (manual) and usually in 4th gear so the torque converter lockup is deployed. On hills, I will toggle back to 3rd or even second gear even if I have to sit on 3000 revs but by watching the temps on the Scanguage I am able to learn how best to drive my car ( I tow a 3.5 ton van) the most efficiently. In automatic it revs higher and runs warmer. I know you have got a lot of information on your instrument cluster and I’m not trying to teach you how to suck eggs. Hi there, just wondering if you have an idea on your rear axle weight, I’m looking at a similar set up to you.

We are close on limit, we did add airbags to take away pressure on the rear, and moved the fridge out. But in all honesty the tow is bang on level and has no bounce and tows very smoothly. The weight ratio when driving feels spot on, I have towed with many different vehicles from LC200-LDV-Navara-Ranger-and many more this feels the best so far.

Wet n wild have rude staff there I don't know how you went with them but most of the rides were closed and it was just the wave pool open and the spa. If your still in the Gold Coast I highly recommend going to Topgolf it's where your on a platform and you hit golf balls off a building thing your in and your in a huge net so you can just swing away ( If you do decide to go here make sure you book online first cause if you rock up with out a booking it can take 3 hrs for a spot ) Topgolf is very close to wet n wild.

One thing you may have overlooked is the effect of the tow ball weight on the rear axle load. It’s not a 1:1 equation. One kg of tow ball weight loads the rear axle by a ratio closer to 1:1.5 so your towball weight load on the rear axle is around the 250kg mark. The Everest rear axle limit is 1,770kg from memory. I would say that with the accessories, kids, fridge, long range tank etc. in your car that you are running over the limit. Definitely worth checking out.

@@donr62 there are other factors to consider we have also discovered recently that diesel is 15% lighter than water so when doing our calculations we have and extra 15-20kg based on this information. The main point is to check and check again.

You need to get your wheels onto scales. Paper weighing exercise won’t do.

We are at max, with the kids I have added airbags to take the load and now moved the fridge to the van for extra caution

Out of interest how are your rear axle weights with the van connected? I have a similar weight van and was put off the Everest due to the limitation of the rear axle. Seems like a couple of kids in the back and you have zero payload available in the back.

@@gregpurvis5694 the rear axle is ok with my kids, they are young and light at the moment. We only have one in the rear the others are Centre balanced.

I’ve just subscribed as I’ve got a very similar set-up (Next-Gen Everest & single axle van). I crunched my numbers exactly like you prior to purchasing the Everest. I weighed my van on a recent trip at a weighbridge with my full travelling weight and was way under GCM and under every other load limit but only 10kg’s under the rear axle weight limit of 1770kg! We have a towbar, removed the 3rd row of seats and had only 2 adults and minimal luggage. I would recommend a quick weigh on your next trip for peace of mind. Thanks for your video content, I look forward to seeing more 👍🤓.

I went there not to long ago and I had experienced the worse stuff ever both movie world and wet n wield have horrible staff really ruined my family's holiday out to the Gold Coast. If your still in the Gold Coast I highly recommend going on the top of the Q1 tower and having breakfast it is an amazing view from their.

Yeah movie world was not bad but the shutdowns are frustrating, sea world staff were problematic. We have done the Q1 and I agree it is epic.

So weird watching a video of the town that I live in! How good is the bakers duck! No better bakery. Was it transmission temps coming up the range?

Yep the transmission couldn't handle it, there will be a review coming out on it soon. It was all worth it just to go to the bakers duck, mmmm...
