Episode 28 - Vakhtang and the Revenge of the Sinds
Im pretty sure the Mushki have a closer connection to the Armenians. The folklore behind many Armenian figures, like the cousin of Hayk the Patriarch… Mishak, and the city bamed after him (Majhak… Armenian name for Kayseri) is speculated to be based off of the presence of the Western Mushki tribe in that region. Similarly, the name Mushki is most likely in reference to Armenian “mush” (fog), and that “ki” is of a proto-Armenian suffix, similar to the modern armenian suffix of “-k,” used as a plural for words. Historic Armenian cities like Mush and Mogk, may have had their origins from this tribe. The language of the Mushki is debated between being either Phrygian, Georgian, or Armenian, however, we do know that the Western Mushki had contact with the Phrygians (a Thracian people who migrated out of the Balkans and settled in Central Anatolia). The establishment of the Armeno-Phrygian language could have possibly been developed through Western Mushki contact with newly settled Phrygians.

Hey man I love Georgian history, could I talk to you on discord or something. I could shoutout your podcast!
Hello! Still watching the series. My friends and I enjoy this a lot, it's very interesting.
So glad to hear that. New episodes will be coming more often :)
Thank you a lot for this series! I was looking for historical sources on Georgia and was very sad when I could not find any. Will be watching all the episodes!
I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Awesome work! 👏🏼🇬🇪
This was a great amount of information! It is always incredibly insightful to hear Father Christos vast knowledge and hear about Roberto's research! Thank you to both of you!
What an exciting story. I read an article about it, which theorised that the Prince and the maiden were reincarnations of Gulambara and Sulambara, which is why the maiden wanted to learn about their story in the first place. Also the venom coming out of her mouth was basically her being absolved from the sin of adultery which she commited in her previous life. Definitely an interesting interpretation.
What a wonderful conversation! As I am studying middle ages at the university, Father Kristos' comments about celibacy and icons were quite helpful.
Is it the sun in Georgia mythology a woman 🤔
The last few episodes on Mirian III have all been masterfully done, I can tell you put in a lot of time and research and it shows
Thank you so much!
Great video!

Herodotus tells us the Colchis were Black with wooly hair like the Egyptians and Ethiopians. I am surprised he doesn't mention this, not really surprised.
Herodotus also reports claims by Ancient Libya that they were populated by people with dog heads.
He also doesn't say that. He mentions that they have thick dark hair.

Great video, Georgian history is so unique
From Ken Muska, My verbal family history claims my people were Mushki/Phrygian tribesmen.
The Western Mushki were located around the modern city if Kayseri in Turkey, in Central Anatolia, which is where the Phrygian people settled after migrating out of the Balkans (Thrace). It’s not so much that the Mushki come from the Phrygians, but it is more likely that the Mushki mixed with the Phrygians due to contact with their communities. This may also be an explanation to how the Armeno-Phrygian language developed (assuming that the language’s Armenian elements may have come from the Mushki tribe).
is there any evidence of raids from turcic people on ancient georgia 3000 to 5000 years ago?
probably not much mass scale contact until the Huns started poking at the Parthians' northern border.
Nice that you guys are interested in Georgia and trying to learn. But when you talk about being conquered or what Colchians looked like - have either of you actually met a Georgian or been to Georgia? Euripides the 5th Century BC playwright writes that the Colchian Princess Medea has rosey white skin - In his Play "Medea". Herodotus never went to Colchis, only Egypt, and inferred from them. More importantly, when did Armenia conquer Georgia? Do you know when or who or what region? What sources do you use? There was a small southern section Armenians called "Gugark" they wanted to take but always failed to do so. The 5th century Armenian historian Movses Khorenatsi himself refers to "Gugark" as a "Powerful nation in the northern mountains" ie North of Armenia. Georgians on the other hand actually ruled all of Armenia for centuries and they were direct subjects of Georgian Kings and Queens. They didn't have any more dynasties left after the 12th century - Armenia was wiped off the map for a thousand years and many fled north to Christian Georgia for protection. If you want to talk about anyone being conquered, talk about Armenians and Persians. Armenia had independence and Armenian dynastic rule for a fraction of the time when compared to Caucasian Georgia. Unlike Armenia, or "Persia", and Greece for that matter, Georgia was ruled by continuous Georgian dynasties with the Georgia language and alphabet, pagan period to Christianity, from the Colchian period until King Erekle made an Orthodox Alliance with Russia. At no time did Georgians recognized foreign Kings as their own, not even during vassalage, Georgians only recognized Georgian Kings - go read Marco Polo too if you'd like during his travels. Moreover, Statehood was always preserved in one form or another, with real borders and boundaries that were actually recognized by foreigners, even during vassalage. Unlike the Greeks and Armenians, Georgians were superior warriors against Muslims, this is 101 and why we preserved statehood better than them. And Persia can't even come close in the same universe, they were erased by Muslims. Their culture, their native religion, and their native alphabet was vanquished. Georgians by every measure are more hardened and warrior spirited than those other cultures. It's not geography that protected our native Caucasian civilization, it is our people and our Kings who did not forsake us. Anyone can march into our lands, but only we can defend ourselves. Just to help you guys out. Thanks.
