    What an awesome upgrade of apparatus compared to what they had. I was a vol FF with New Gretna Vol Fire Dept for a bunch of years and my father was chief of new gretna and FF for many years

    How long does it take to get out the door? Dispatch would be all over us within a minute if we hadn't marked up.

    You shouldn’t be allowed period. There’s the risk of death, and you take up valuable space that can be used for other members. It’s illegal in NY. Hopefully that changes. You shouldn’t do it unless it’s legal in all 50 states because each state has different rules. Let me know about your opinion.

    For a volunteer company 3 min is not bad at all. Also keep in mind that the details of the call are not disclosed in the video so it may be something that is not serious (i.e. flooded basement). Where I come from it is not uncommon for departments to take up to 6 min to get out the door, especially in the middle of the night. Just because it takes a long time to respond doesn't mean that they aren't a good company. Being a volunteer myself I understand how difficult it is. Don't mock until you have been a volunteer yourself.

    • @Stargazzer811
      @Stargazzer811 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly most VFD's do better on response than some career departments so I'd say 6 mins out the door, in the middle of the night, isn't bad at all. Its understandable when you are shaking off sleep with adrenaline and coffee as you run out the door, drive up to 10 minutes to the house and then have to throw on your gear and get out the door.

  • @it2044
    @it2044 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    if we have staffing at station, we can get out before the call is dispatched, if we don't have staffing at station we are around 4-5 minutes. all thanks to Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)

    • @alexandermakrianis
      @alexandermakrianis 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope your paid fire department is well staffed. Many are not, they run three people (sometimes only two) on an engine and can't do much at a structure fire other than try to hit it from the outside or just stand and watch it burn until more help arrives. Most volly depts. may take longer to respond but at least they come with sufficient personnel.

    • @harrymann4399
      @harrymann4399 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexandermakrianis Not always with sufficient personal, in the CFA’s case sometime not even with the right qualifications! Thank god FRV run a crew of 4 on all primary appliances

    • @alexandermakrianis
      @alexandermakrianis 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@harrymann4399 yep, in the US a lot of full time departments run with only 3 on a rig, some places only 2! That's not going to do a lot of good on scene of a fire, and it's dangerous!

    For those of u who r dumb to realize that this isent a house that is runned by employed career fore fighters. This is a volunteer house. Imagine being at a restaurant u just got ur food and u get called it takes u 5 minutes just for u to get on the road from the restaurant. Before criticizing how bout u do this for a day. And yes they walk they have to or else they can get hurt and then what. Im a currant volunteer for S.A.F.D. and most of yall shouldent be saying shit bc yall r running from the accident and waiting for us to help yall. We dont get paid to do this. 70% of firefighters r volunteers.

    For a volunteer department your guys response time was pretty damn good. Don't let all the haters talk trash. With limited man power that's pretty good. Especially if it was a weekday in the middle of the day. Stay safe out there.
