    Not to defend Wicked edge; they can do that just fine without my help if they choose. But to defend truth, your assertion that WE sharpening stones thicknesses were all over the place did not match with my observations. So I pulled out a very good dial caliper and measured them. The results are listed below. Note that the variations were on the far right of the decimal point. The strop had some differences but since the strop is obviously leather, a little bit of that might be it compressing under the caliper jaws and not because of a large production variance. In short, three or four thousandths of an inch thickness from a stone to a strop is simply not visible and I doubt it would be noticeable in any practical use. I have used mine for about as long as you did yours, and not a single time did I need to compensate for the edge. If I had one gripe, it was that distally tapered blades are a challenge to clamp. No problems with the design that another sharpener design might not have the same problem, but exchange it for another problem. Personally, I would not trade my irritation for yours with the TS Prof. Different strokes, but let's stay accurate with measurable facts. The stone grit is listed on the left, the measured thickness of the stones is on the right after a few spaces. By any reasonable measure, these are pretty consistent. 100/200 1.182/1.184 400/600 1.182/1.182 800/1000 1.178/1.181 strop 1.77/1.181 Everything else is opinion.

      @@Curmudgeon-RDN Nice work man, I was never very thorough in explaining myself on videos which is one of the reasons I dont make youtube videos anymore. Im just not great at it. 😂 That being said I was most referring to the difference between the diamond stones, the ceramics, the glass platens and the strops, all vastly different thickness. It is true that each system has its own problems, there is no perfect sharpener. The TSProf lasted 2 years before the cam lock failed and since it was an integral part of the system for me it ended my love of that system. I since moved on to the Hapstone RS which has proven itself to be better than both WE and TSprof.

    • @Curmudgeon-RDN
      @Curmudgeon-RDN วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@knifeknerdreviews4609 I have not found that the difference in thickness between the stones and the strop mattered -for what I was doing-. There was only about a .003-.005 difference between the extremes. In terms of degrees at the edge, I doubt I could measure it. If I sharpened for shows, contests, or professionally, then I am the first to say that I am not a sharpening expert, but I doubt that the end result in any of the guided systems would be noticeably different from another when used by someone who knows what they are doing and is patient. (Not me) That is why I went with WE because I am not so patient, and when I bought it, I had little time to fool around and buy and try before I got it right. I needed to go in, get it done, and get back to work. WE did that for me, but at a price. I didn't find the stones to be overpriced because when used as a pair, they got about the same number of strokes as two singles, all other things being equal. I have mostly M4, Cruwear, Magnacut, M390, and S90v, so there was no way I had time to dink around with rocks, I had to get the edge on in a few minutes. They are all users, so they need to work properly. That was what drove me to this choice, for better or for worse. Everyone's needs are different and if I had to sharpen in the field instead of coming home every night, I might have chosen something else. Maybe a WE portable, or one of the Edge Pro/TSProf/KME/Hapstone and the like might be easier to carry around.

    • @knifeknerdreviews4609
      @knifeknerdreviews4609 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @Curmudgeon-RDN You see I was once where you are though... I understand what you think you bought is good, and I used the WE for 5 years which is more than double the time I had the TSProf. I was sharpening a lot because I started working on knives for people and over time the complexities of using the wicked edge became a hinderance to me, the clamping issues, the extra work of 2 stones, The calibration and positioning of the blade in the clamps. It all added up to me growing to HATE the tool. And I use that word strongly because After I got away from it, it became even more clear that the wicked edge was a horrible system. The TSprof was just a taste of what could be when I got away from Wicked Edge. LIterally everything is faster and easier with a traditional single stone horizontal clamping, blade flipping jig system. It just is, I could go on for days about how bad the wicked edge stones are and how they drag because of the cheap plastic frames and how you are doing twice as much work to get lesser results than I can achieve in half the time while paying for the stones twice. Sorry man until you move on from it you may not get it but My personal experience is such that I would never in a hunded years ever consider a Wicked Edge again. It can make sharp knives but sometimes it isnt about the result its about the work required to get to the end result and Literally Everything is Better over here far away from that gimmicky dual stone system. 🤷‍♀️

      @@kelleykinser The one I had was the WE130 with the Cam lever jaws, that clampin system is pretty dangerous because its under constant spring pressure, if the blade slips in the clamps it will shoot the knife out. I nearly got cut in the face by a flying knife. I howevwr also don't back this Tsprof system anymore, the rotating system on it wears and loosens over time. After 2 years it failed on me not long after making this video. I now run the Hapstone RS snd its been a superb little budget machine.

      Squeeky Detent Ball is always too much lockbar tension. I use Nano Oil 85 weight on detents, I truly believe it is the best knife lube on the planet. If that doesnt stop it, reducing lockbar tension just a little definitely will, but you also gotta pay attention to the other tolerances, make sure it doesnt develop lock rock after adjusting.

I think the quality on the WE systems FAR outshine what I received from TSPROF. Also, curious to know where you heard the parts are water cut and cast? The entirety of the Gen3, Gen 4, Commercial are CNC billet alluminum. The TSPROF Ko3, the BEST version they sell, wasnt bad, but its quality wasn't anything special to me. How does that help me sharpen knives? 🤣 why am I paying more for a dangerous spring loaded clamp that launches knives into the air? Why am I paying twice for stones that cant do the job any faster than a single stone? Why are their plates glued on with hot glue? The cheapest weakest glue ever. I could go on and on about the failings of that system but more than anything I"m just not paying nearly double the price for gimmicks that dont help me sharpen knives better or more effciently.

      @knifeknerdreviews4609 I appreciate your feedback, but I don't really know where to start. As a general statement, I am an engineer by trade and often work closely with machine shops, manufacturing tolerances, inspection methodologies, etc. The only reason why Im stating that is because I believe its important to add context to the statements I'm making/responding too. So real quick: 1. There are I believe at least 4 different systems, all at varying price points, that utilize the Cam Lock Vise. Those vary between 300 or so to 1400.00. Any system in that lineup would reflect my personal experience with WE. 2. I'd like to touch on the question you didn't answer: what specifically are you refering to when you say "water cut, cast parts"? Again, my experience has been that the majority of components that make up their systems are CNC, billet aluminum. Excellent workmanship and litterally the best after sales support if an issue is identified. As it sounds like you have special knowledge of their systems, what is cast or low quality? 3. How would their vise cause the knife to spring upward? I don't see how that would be possible....but thats why I'm asking. 4. The reason why I sold my KO3 (the best system they sell) was due to the amount of flex and deflection tied to their clamps and guide rod assembly. If you watch your own video, you can clearly see this issue with your lower tier system. By design, the knife on the WE is affixed vertically. The axial pressure thats needed to aggressively remove material is significantly less than the amount of downward pressure you're applying on the system you're using. 5. I completely disagree that the WE is a lower quality system in any way. Again, please take a moment to look at my channel. I've owned the best version of your system along with TORMEK, HAPSTONE, MAD EDGE, KME. The Wicked Edge was the best quality by far. If the price or the price of new stones is too high...then it is what it is. I'm also apart of numerous knife sharpening groups. The WE is held in high regard. Look at the amount of active accounts in the WE group, then look at Tsprof. Proof is there. Also, have you not heard about the nightmare of Tsprof after sales support? The overall downwards trend in quality? To each their own...but there's a lot of support for WE out there. You also fail to acknowledge the price of a new KO3. Factor in shipping and you're able to get a well spec 'd WE for cheaper. Good luck

      @@danielslatenightsharpening254 I dont know what sharpening groups you're in but Im in both of those groups and many more, pretty much every high level sharpening service guy has switched to TSProf... Yes the Wicked Edge group is bigger its been around for like 5 or 6 years longer than the Tsprof group. And it is the sole group for wicked edge so all the owners whom use facebook end up there looking for help with learning because the system is difficult to learn. It takes years to be proficient with wicked edge. Any newb can pick up a tsprof and be making perfect mirrored edges after 20 knives because its simple and effective. The cheap cast parts that fail on the wicked edge are on the lower end systems where they utlize screws on the jaws that end up ripping straight through the aluminum after a year or 2 of use which if you have been around the wicked edge group you have seen happen plenty of times. Luckily the service is good and the jaws get replaced for free but it is a failure point that has happened over and over again. The cam lock maintains constant spring pressure against the blade, if the blade slips while in the jaws the jaws slam shut and shoot the knife straight up in the air and it becomes a projectile razor blade. I know this because it happened to me and I narrowly avoided being permanenlty disfigured because the knife almost hit me in the face. It also damaged the finish on the $500 knife when it shot it out of the jaws. Any percieved "flex in the TSprof system is non consequential because it does not effect the angle whatsoever, however the play between the rods and the plastic stone holders on the wicked edge absolutely do introduce angle change and cause you to have 2 bevels on the edge unless you are extremely skilled with how you stroke the stones and well aware of the play issue between the rod and stone holders as well as the rod knuckles. The wicked Edge is held in high regard by wicked edge owners because they mostly have not realized there is better systems on the market or they feel they need to justify the thousands of dollars they invested into a subpar system that relies on gimmicks rather then effectiveness and efficiency. 🙅‍♂️
