Making music for over two decades, in the beginning of 2018 I bought my first Eurorack modules, having some experience with synthesizers, but not with modular synths.
A whole new world and with it a massive playground opened up.
I then quickly figured out that the rack I bought was way too small for what I call my new hobby.
My collection of Eurorack modules since is growing and growing, and there is no end in sight.
After a year of learning and trying, I have started this TH-cam channel called SundayAfternoonModular, where I show modules, explain how things work, and also upload some of my jams,
and where, of course, you can join me for my modular adventures.
So if you want to follow my ride through a dazzling array of soundscapes, hit that subscribe button and become a part of my journey!

Sounds powerful! Thank you.
You're welcome!
I've got one for White Noise conditionning :) so i can use it as shakers and hihats :)
I love these simple, little 1U modules that can fill a niche while filling an empty slot when you can't find anything else to fill it. I just picked up a passive Bear module on Etsy. Its only function is to light up when it sees a signal but it's great for when you don't feel like patching or repatching something else to make sure a signal is on the line while troubleshooting.
Where is that accent from?
I couldn’t understand your description of the lager version. Even with closed caption on
With all these cool dinky modules, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a line of all 1u case
Is there any way to simulate a rest.
You mean reset? I'm afraid that's not possible. If you need a reset function, you will have to go with another sequencer.
The kobol sounds great. Big fat tone 👍
To each his own, I happen to really like the MyVOLTS cables. I got in on the MyVOLTS Kickstarter so I got a bunch at a really good price in a lot of different lengths and colors. My rack is also pretty vertical so they lay pretty nicely. And more blinky lights never hurt anyone ;) That being said, I also have some of the Cre8audio cables and I like those too. Buy what you like and what works for you.
Modular Synth Lab from Etsy, perfect cables in different lenghts

Thanks again for sharing, excellent module
🤠🤠🤠
Thank you, I just bought one last night. Greetings from Michigan USA
I know this is more of a consumer focused channel but for any technical people out there, this simple module uses an STM32H750 which is more advanced that what Mutable Instruments is using in Plaits. I think they had to use such a powerful processor because there is very little latency as the module records in a sample and plays it back in real time. I’m boring I know but I find it interesting when seemingly simple modules have very complex circuitry and programming going on that isn’t apparent to the end user.
I have a stnth duster, its iust a girls make up brush 👍
Nice comparison. It’s a great sounding rock snare and block style percussion. The Tip-top 808 obviously covers a different kind of sound but sounds more rough, which I like.
That quantizer is out of pitch. I've heard its a common issue with the 2hp quantizer.
You can totally do this analog using a sample and hold and a quantizer. The S&H triggered by a square VCO set to the sample rate frequency will create the stepped voltages and then quantizing them over 5 octaves of semitones gives you roughly 6 bits. There's more fine grained quantizers that can process smaller steps than semi tones and could easily allow up to 8 or 9 bits
Which modules do you know use the Daisy? I know the similar Teensy is used on Music Thing Modular Radio Music and Ornament and Crime
Hi there, a lot of the Mosaic modules use the daisy seed, just as the plucked string shown in the video, their drum modules, mono reverb, variable delay and decimator, some modules from Qu-Bit also use the daisy seed, Data Bender, Surface, Aurora to name a few, and the whole Legio, Versio and Iteritas Alia series from Noise Engineering uses the daisy platform as well.
I understand your opinion but kind of expected that you tried a module before saying you dont like it? Really doesn’t make sense to put a product down you haven’t used. I came here to watch this because i expected that you had hands on experience with this module.
Hey there, I totally get your point. My video is more about my own opinion of why I am not a huge fan of digitally controlled modules, or modules with excessive menu diving. I actually was looking at the xer mixa if it is something for me, watched many videos, read the whole manual, to then find out this is exactly what I don't like. And out of this came the idea for this video, where I thought instead of just talking about digitally controlled modules, I had a good example of it with the two mixers. I don't think I put the product down in general, or at least I hope so. I normally mention that if a product is not for me, it still may be exactly what others are searching for. But of course I do understand if you where coming for a review of the module, this is not the video you where looking for. Have a great day!
@@SundayAfternoonModular everybody is entitled to their opinion true. but saying you dont like something when you haven’t tried it out is like saying i don’t like chicken but ive never tried it before. Just because you don’t like the mixer you have because its digitally controlled doesn’t mean other digitally controlled mixers are going to be the same. If xer mixa had an expander for multi-tracking it could probably be the best eurorack mixer out aside from wmd pm mkii coming out but is double the price almost with its expanders. I would say first try things out before giving reasons you don’t like something because at least for me I’m not going to warrant someone’s opinions if they haven’t. Honestly it’s clickbait as well putting a picture of something on your video that you have no personal experience with. Xer mixa at its price point if you don’t need multi tracking is the best mixer out right now.
@@joeymc5272why do people think everyone is entitled to their own opinion? Is that something Jesus said?

Hey, congrats on the patch... what do you think about Isi Wren for generative? Does it require an external clock? I'm thinking about getting it and Tryfelo too as an LFO which I can use as a clock source. Thanks!
Hey there, yes the Isi Wren requires an external clock, and can definitely be used for generative patches. Though one of the characteristics of Isi Wren is, that sequences can be locked in and repeated. Another great module I often use for generative patches is the Kompas from Bastl Instruments.
Thank you for making this, it was very useful.
Great video. I thought I was a neophyte for shunning digital modules. I do own 2: Quadrax digital function gen; Noise Engineering BIA (new version). I refuse to menu dive - I lived thru the 90s.
I really like the case overall, which I got used at a great price! But I have had trouble with certain modules fitting, especially ones that are 2hp and I'm trying to use to fill the entire rack. Something about the way the fixed rack sits, I guess there are some advantages to racks with sliding nut setups.
Hi, thanks for such a good overview!! Do you happen to know if the a-198 would work to control software as smoothly as in eurorack ? Im thinking of getting it and a midi/cv module to use as a vst controller, but im wondering if in the cv to midi the pitch/v per octave transformation there might be some stepping or issues like that... could there be any issues or am i just worrying too much? Thanks a lot!!
Hi there, I honestly wouldn't know if this is possible. This is something you would have to try out.
I guess I have to be the first one to say that this module freaking rocks! Sparse in what it does and not a game changer, but worth it for just the snare hits alone. The entire line of modules is worth a look for anyone, but especially with the budget minded synth lover. Imagine if Doepfer were a little company from Brazil.
I use two of them, on the top left and right middle ends in a 168hp x 9 Doepfer case. With the ribbon cable interconnect and It's like folding the box in half when routing from one end to the other. Saves 14 wires, and it's clean. The CAT cables still work (too!) talking to other boxes. Crosstalk hasn't been a problem with clocks and audio so far, but I'm cautious with note CVs. The four ribbon cables for internal interconnect can be light and fussy to lay in. What the A-180-9 does for the case is cool.
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Doepfer Multicore!
👍👍🏻👍🏼👍🏽👍🏾👍🏿
I have read on MW that center detents can be expensive to engineer. Easy to say cost cutting isnt worth it if you're not a manufacturer fighting for customers in a crowded market. Not disagreeing with your post, just saying it's probably not mere inattention that leads to these deficiencies.
Being a vca+filter combo would you say that this could be seen and used as a classic LPG as well?
You would still need an envelope to control the filter frequency and vca level.
I really love my Kobol. I think is the best one from their 80/70hp series. The only thing that pisses me off (but just a bit 😁) is the insane amount of power it requires if you want to place it into a eurorack system.
So sorry about what happened with Mdlr cases… I hope you were able to sort it out somehow… or at least to have your money back!
Safely drill into the module and make the hole bigger? I did this for 0coast and now everything fits cleanly 👍 it's not ideal, but it was a quick and simple fix
sounds badass for $69. and I don't even like most spring reverbs.. will have to get one.. thanks Professor
Nice demonstration!
Thank you!
Sounds quite good for what it is.
The Tesseract TexMix panners have detents, and the Squarp Rample pots do as well. None of my other modules have detents, but I don't often find myself missing them. I adjust with my ears, and sometimes close counts.
Tex Mix is low cost!!
I guess the manufacturers think the average Racker won’t bother to check it.
Those center detents on pots & faders are not an exact science anyway... even with them locked in, you're never sure to actually be in the middle... I'd even say it is a bit of a cosmetic or a feel-good feature...
Also they make it hard to get micro adjustments very close to the detent as it wants to pull into the detent, its a more complex subject than it first appears.
I'm with you, it's not an exact science. Most (cheaper) parts are not 100% accurate. That's why modules need to be calibrated, so my physical 0 or middle also is a 0 in what the module does. That calibration of course is (hopefully) done by the manufacturer.
@@baronvongreenback This is why we only want them where is makes sense, for instance a panning knob. For functions where I want to fine tune something, I agree with you, such a knob or slider would not be very helpful.
@@SundayAfternoonModular that's a fair point.
cost cutting, its bs
100% Agree
I wonder what would happen if I connected the output of one to the input of a second arp?
Nice 👍🏻👋 from France
I like that one, dislike that its hard to find the desired waveform the knob position / lettering is not precise so you might be in sth. different than you want. (or have to use an oscilloscope)
Had a mate over on instagram telling me the same. I definitely have to check the waveforms with an oscilloscope how accurate they are.
When hard syncing a LFO, you get a rather drastic voltage shift which can result in clicks. Slew limiting can solve that. What you suggest; a bleeding gate to the output would be a major design error, I hope that is not the case.
The tune knob is not discussed here. It is a bit confusing as it seems to be the base pitch to which the v/oct in signal is added. You would probably think it was a bipolar fine tune but it is not. Its a small knob for the whole 8 octave range when you try to set it. You can assign the param cv in to it and use something else from outside to set it such as a bigger knob if its sending an 8 v range and you put this knob to zero. Though it does not save the parameter setting so you would have to do it again every time you switch on. I think the supersaw sounds very wonky here and it may be due to the above noted fact,
The Basic Doepfer VCO sounds better than the standard one. I have both and I always go for my Basic . I’d rather have 2 Basic’s now and get rid of the standard . It just hits harder and sounds wides for some reason
what happens if i connect noise output to step sequencer? does it change the pitch
