Hi! My name is Mei Sullivan (They/Them) and I have Tourette's Syndrome, a neurological disorder which makes me make sounds and movements that I can't control called 'tics'. My channel is aimed to provide informational and educational content on my daily life with Tourette's Syndrome.
You don't need to feel any pressure to subscribe or like my videos, but I really appreciate the subscribers, likes, and comments that I receive. I hope that my poor editing, weird sense of humor, and life can provide some sort of entertainment!

I made this video to touch on a few stances: 1. A Service Dog MUST be Obedience AND TASK TRAINED to be a service dog, legally. Period. 2. Service Dogs make mistakes 3. Fake Spotting and Public shaming is dangerous to your animal and can be rude of you, (no matter your intentions- keep public posting out of it.) 4. Not every dog can BE a service dog or SHOULD be a service dog 5. Your priority is...

hello and welcome to the description. here are my warnings, three. 1. do NOT watch if you are having a heavy tic day or bad day with FND 2. my dog is officially retiring in a MONTH. do NOT tell me how to do things "better". we work in sync very well and communicate through a collar 3.if you do not tell yourself something nice RIGHT NOW- somewhere, somehow, a toad will find you in the future and...

Making Friends When You Have a Disability
TLDR: things I've noticed that weren't in the video, but *obviously i don't mean all handlers* and this is *just my personal experience*! people gatekeeping the reasons someone has a SD, invalidating at-home SDs, if you don't have your SD with you 24/7 people say you dont "need" it, fake claiming small breeds and cheap gear, any discussion of struggles not involving access issues or fakes gets shut down, any discussion of the pros not outweighing the cons for you gets shut down For context: - I spent years in and observing service dog spaces, I do NOT have one, I was there to learn as much as possible to see if it was the right option for me. but comparing it to spaces for other disability aids like AAC users, I've noticed these seem to be service dog specific issues - also I'm not saying EVERY handler does this, these are just some things I've noticed that haven't been brought up in the video, any service dog handlers *please* correct any parts that I go wrong - some SD handlers will be weirdly invalidating of the reasons that others have service dogs? Like arguing over who "needs" a medical alert/psychiatric/mobility etc - I've seen a weird amount of either invalidating or just straight up ignoring the existence of at-home service dogs that don't do public access [despite a lot of service dog's work being at home, and a lot of disabled people couldn't handle public access issues] - Or saying anyone who doesn't bring their SD EVERY DAY to EVERY PLACE musn't "need" it. - Most SD users [rightfully] say that any breed can be a SD, but then almost every post about "fakes" is a perfectly well behaved dog walking or tasking who happens to be a smaller breed, or if they're wearing a cheap amazon vest [even though most disabled people are broke...] - There seems to be an odd consensus that unless you're talking about access issues or fakes, no one can discuss the struggles of having one? I've seen people be instantly shut down or invalidated for bringing up the financial costs, social isolation, the burden of keeping a retired/washed dog and the new dog, the emotional toll of an animal you rely on passing away, vet visits and bills, carrying around everything that a dog needs in the day, or the fact that if they would they wish they didn't NEED one. it took me a LONG time to learn and accept it wasn't the right option for me because any discussion about the parts that some people can't handle was always shut down with "but the tasks can help disabilities" when for some people the pros don't outweigh the cons Also Mei, I know you're a stranger and this could seem parasocial TM, but I've followed your channel for years and your videos have done a LOT for me, even just in self-acceptance and feeling less "alone" in my experiences.
@blueequin0x Wow. Just wow. I am amazed by your awareness and acceptance. That last bit just about got me to cry in an Oklahoma library :') I love you!
Gatekeeping is such an exhausting issue that keeps popping up within marginalized groups that really makes me sad. How there is such a need to protect what little people achieve through years of battle that they feel the need to, and sometimes the authority to say who is enough and who’s faking it and hurting their efforts. Thanks for talking about this 🙏🏼
@@NicoKettler yes, it is sad to see. I didn't sleep after uploading this for most of the night in just fear for what little I DID say. Gatekeeping is exhausting, indeed.
Are you naming your dogs after batman characters (Damian(?) and Grayson)? Fucking awesomeeee

sorry for cropping out the tics- needed to get this off my chest ❤
I had to retire mine right off the bat once she was at all trained because to start she had reactivity from attacks...no biggy when she went into proper sdit lable she was good. She could focus, and could not react when asked... She was a service dog for maybe a few weeks before she just went from good to ok to bad and I decided after desperately trying to make her what I needed that she needed to be completely retired/washed...then recently even then she willingly was a sd when needed at home until after she got mauled by yet another dog.... In the 3 years I had her I had her attacked 20+ times To be exact it was (from beginning to end) Uncle's female bitch emphasis on bitch who charged us almost every time we went potty at least once a month Cousins pitbull reason of bite? Puppy stood next to them under the same bench....she was like 5 months old....the pit was like 3-7.... Random pit we never saw again Uncle's male puppy after breeding his genetically Aggressively bitch and then And the neighbors maliniois after letting it off leash to kill a indoor outdoor cat. Possibly got off leash itself but I doubt it. I had many proclaim my dog should never have been a service dog or needed to "be able to handle space being invaded"....as if she Wasent when I marked her a sdit..... Basically had several denounce anything I've ever done or claim you can only do positive training which btw doesn't always work... maybe for a lab or retriever....bit a rescue that has the right temperament and working want....um...well not a guarantee especially on a shepherd....my dog never responded to postive only Training until she was at least a year and a half... My only current issue with her is that she desperately wants to work 247...has no chill because shes just an esa now... but still holds the same work ethic and knowledge to be a service dog... Honestly she's the dog you keep working until they get something that makes it hard to work then you make them do easy AF work... But the service dog community really is toxic as fuck, just the dog community period really...it's all bs and don't walk your dog as a puppy it's gonna get hurt or don't put your 14 week old puppy on the ground or meeting other puppys or seeing dogs or on any floor until they have all shots at 2 years old ext, just everyone freaking out that it's not perfect or that the dog isn't coddled....I don't get why telling a dog no or having a puppy on the floor or even just swatting at a dog getting into something is such a big deal...hell I've even gotten looks as I shoved my dog around trying to get her to redirect as a puppy because she was freaked out...or even better....I pulled her too me while asking her to focus one time while working on reactivity far before she was a sdit and at this time she just was hyperfixated....a lady threw a fit and harassed me because she thought I was abusing my dog.... keeping in mind I hadn't even touched my dog... just pulled her by leash to me with her head halter... redirecting a Hyperfixated dog who forgot I was there... Now if I need her to I can have her on my Solid and not react reguardless of her mental state if I need her too, I don't do it often but if I need her to behave she's willing to ignore to do a constant 247 task instead of react. I wish she could be a service dog though as I greatly need it...
@-touya_todoroki I am so sorry for what happened to your pup :( yes, the world needs to respect service animals way more than it does. Wishing you the best of luck as we continue our life journey!

Certain explanations are the triggers for me….. I became disabled 8 yrs ago…. And first thing everyone has to learn is too always be comfortable in your own skin and except what, and how you are.
When I first saw one of your videos, which was today, I automatically thought you looked like my friend Barbara... who uses a wheelchair. So when you said you have a wheelchair named Barbara, you could imagine what I was thinking for a moment. XD
I love how raw you are. I want to start a TH-cam channel with my FND and Tourette’s , along with many other things not as disabling. I recently(nov 8th it’s nov 12 ) got a new puppy and she will be my service dog as that’s why I got her. I was home alone house sitting and I was cutting cheese. My fnd flaired up and I went paralyzed in my legs and fell with a knife in my hand. I could have gotten hurt if I started seizing as I’ve done that before too. I just found you and seeing you post a tic attack made me subscribe. I’m gonna start my channel hopefully soon
@bubblesubz thank you! Having a channel is DEFINITELY fun and has been helpful for spreading information and documentation. I can't wait to watch (if you go through!)

I can’t keep my shit about this video 😭
You got the n word pass
Aight, 2024 TedTalk commence. I’m a Black person with tics and this is where I’m coming from and I hope someone reads the whole thing. Coming from one Black person, while there’s not an n-word card (it’s determined by the Black person and no one else, and the answer for people is mostly no) tics are different!! I know they’re out of control and I’m not offended! It’s not a problem for me. Tics SUCK SO BAD. It’s not a reflection of you or your beliefs or thoughts! It doesn’t bother me. It just sucks. Copeolalia (I probably botched the spelling) is so different from people intentionally doing it to insult. I have a friend who ticced the n word at me and he was freaked that I’d freak but I just said it was fine, and it is. Tics suck but it’s fine. I wouldn’t get mad, Mei. Not everyone will get it unfortunately because we can’t control how others react. But I hope they’re understanding. I really really do. Drive thrus are hard for me, and too. I’m more comfortable now but it still makes me anxious. I hope someone took time to read this whole thing to get my perspective…I figured an opinion from a Black person was important because I can explain in a way other people can’t when it comes to the n-word. Conclusion: it’s all good. I don’t care because it’s Tourette’s and not you. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk 😭😂
Congrats on 133 views
💀💀💀
hope you're doing well.
I’m not saying she’s fake but u don’t choose your tics
@luvhxxi correct! They can be influenced by outside factors though. As Jess Thom, TourettesHero, had explained- ANYTHING ever experienced by an individual with Tourette's has the potential to become a tic.
So how does coprolalia work when you dont KNOW any curse word, like if you are a child, what tics happen then?
@yeslifer5 Anything that is described as a potentially offensive word and carries stress can become a tic. Kids with coprolalia learn fast, though. The more pressure set against it, the harder it is to surpress and the most tic-relief we feel from shouting it, unfortunately 😔
THIS IS SOME FUNNY FUCKING SHIT 😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂
notice how there weren’t any tics in this video? bro lying
Oh God. Dude. Are you trolling or for real? Tics affect the whole body. This was shot while I was in CBIT therapy, which teaches tic transferring techniques. I can tic in less obvious places but typically it involves harming myself later, which is obviously disturbing to watch. I didn't tic the whole time I typed this message. I also LEFT tic therapy bc it made me feel not like myself. People should learn to accept differences, not just ignore them. TLDR: didn't tic v much during this period of life, as I was in tic therapy. If I DID tic, it's under the table.
bro you know damn well you will never be in the situation were someone is trying to fuck you😭
Why don't I EVER hear racist tics towards white people? It's always the n word
You seen cool to fun to kick it with
I don’t know how I could keep sane if I had something like this. Takes lots of strength to keep moving forward with this.
