Ahhhhh!!!! I'm so sad I missed this because I adored Mindwalker!! Damn birthday plans
🤞🏻🤞🏻 fingers crossed she'll join again another time
as if I was so rude to miss this 😂😂
I need help on the zodiac prompt, please. I've scoured dozens of zodiac-based reading lists, and apparently Cancers are not supposed to read gothic or SFF. The few books that even remotely qualify are ones I've already read and didn't particularly like. Do you know of any lists with space goth for Cancers? Or do you have any books you would recommend to an atypical Cancer like myself?
The Deep by Nnedi Okafor, it's all about empathic Mermaids- water sign and big in touch with feelings!
@@LadetteM Do you mean the one by Rivers Solomon? Yes, I liked that one a lot. But I'm really not much about the family/mothering/nurturing vibe, which I guess is very uncancerish. Unless it involves food. Too bad I loaned out my copy of the Cryptonomnomnom...
That is the one I meant! Okay if we want the watery vibes but not super emotional, I'd suggest something piratey maybe? The Adventures of Amina Al Sirafi?
@@LadetteM Ooh, yes, I even have a copy already! Thanks!!
No problem! Enjoy!
oh i know exactly which prompt you reused and it's one of my favourites too ^^ i'm looking to read house of hunger for said prompt, if i can get hold of it! out of all these recommendations i've only read elatsoe, and i fully agree with your glowing recommendation. it's a book that is exactly what it needed to be, if you know what i mean? it hit all the notes it needed to hit, every sentence was purposeful, clearly crafted with so much love and care for both subject matter and the art of writing itself. ETA my memory sucks, i've also read how to kill your family and thought it was a pretty fun time! agree with the sex and the city meets dexter description; i called it "murder chick lit" to a friend lol. back to back with this i read another book in that same genre, how to kill men and get away with it. they were both 3 stars for me, popcorn reads yknow? wait maybe this is what people mean by "cozy mystery"... anyway, so if you're ever wanting another book with the same vibe, might check that other one out!
Cosy for us at least. Gentle murder with fashionable ladies haha
I enjoyed Yellowface, hope you do too 📚
Me too 🤞🏻
Is it too late to get the prompts? I tried the link to the game, but the site wouldn't respond at all.
It should still be working? There's loads of time to join! I'll be trying the game tonight so I check it's all up and running still!
@@LadetteM I tried a different browser and it worked! Looks like I am in the Wakanda Galaxy. 🙂
@skeletonkeybooks well done!
Great recommendations! Can’t wait for Gothtober 💕
Me either 🥰
5th omg hoooowww so excited for this year!!
Yay! I know, 5 years has flown by! You were there for the OG right?
This is my first time doing Gothtober. I'm so excited to do a spooky season readathon. I got my prompts!
Yay! Welcome! I hope you love it!
So excited for Gothtober, I've been saving books all year for this that I'm hoping fit into the prompts 😂
Yesssss I hope you get to plenty of them!
As always some fantastic recommendations and I'm so so excited for Gothtober this year!!
I feel like this theme more than others is right up your street!
🔥✨🔭🪐🛸👽🚀👾🧑🚀
Omg so many awesome recommendations and yessssss Space Between Worlds needs more love!!!
Did you enjoy your little shout out? Also, go to sleep!
@@LadetteM of course! 😂😂😂 and I know I was awake laaaate 😇
Loving these books! Do you have any recommendations for the "age/height difference" prompt? Preferably something Gothic-y!
Height difference: For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten, Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood, Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe, Fangs by Sarah Anderson, and Mrs Rochester's Ghost by Lindsay Alcott But age difference: The Lights of Prague by Nicola Jarvis, Demons of the Ocean by Justin Somper, In the Ravenous Dark by A.M. Strickland, Luster by Raven Leilani, Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas and Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
@@LadetteM Thank you so much for all the recs! ‘Rebecca’ is probably my favourite book of all-time ❤️
Then definitely try Catherine House and Just Like Home - same creepy vibes but very different stories!
💛💛💛
Yay pot luck! I really liked Things in Jars too, and you’re making me want to reread it now. So many great side characters too. 🤝
If you want something similar, would recommend The Lost Ones by Anita Frank!
@@LadetteM oo thanks, noted!
I will always put the sentient in gothtober lol. I can be relied upon for that for sure!! I'm really excited for everything Gothtober and the Wakanda recs that will be coming soon :)
I'm looking forward to them!
The discord and Google docs links don't work 😭
They should do!? They haven't changed - let me check! Sorry this is being a pain!

So excited for this
Me too!
I recognise that shirt! It look fantastic on you!
Thank you 🥰
I’m excited! I joined last year, so can’t wait to join again ✨
Yesss! Welcome back!
Awesome! Can’t wait
Me either!
Absolutely amazing opening! Very, very excited for this round! Can't wait to play the game!
Thanks Gem! Hopefully I'll see a tbr from you 👀
💛💛💛
Yay, happy 5th anniversary! Looking forward to Gothtober!
Thank you Susy! I'm so excited!
Hi Hannah😊! Awesome theme & loved the intro 😁😁😁. It was brilliant 👍⭐️- can't wait to join you all 😁😁😁🥰!
Thank you! Probably the least scary of all my intros but that's okay haha
I'm so excited to be participating for the fifth year!! I love this theme, and it would suit my bestie perfectly so I'll try to rope them in.
Do it! The more the merrier!
My favourite time of year has come again! I'm not even a massive sci-fi fan but I'm in love with the theme, and that intro video was so cool. I can't wait!
This is it! I'm not either, I'm so picky with my Sci fis! So knowing the prompts are Gothic Sci Fi but the books can be anything is the perfect opportunity to expand my reading without being forced into a genre I don't like hahah
This. Sounds. Amazing. Hope to hear about that merch link soon! I'll try to be active on my Insta, but I just moved, and a good 3/4 of my books are still in boxes, so I may not have the energy to dig them out of the storage rooms AND then beautifully photograph the stacks. I may make photo grids of covers instead. I can't WAIT to see the book lists! They make good TBRs even after the readathon!! SF Gothic is something I love and have trouble finding at times.
Oh, and are the candles behind you from past Gothtobers? I like a good candle, and even though you clearly said there wouldn't be one this year, there could be a company I could patronize.
Exactly! We love recommendations based on things people are actually reading in the genres we love. I've read hardly any so I'm ready to expand my reading!
Yes! They are from Grace and Honey! Available at Becca and the Book's website and on Etsy!
Such a cool theme ❤
Thank you Ellen! 💜
All very exciting 🪐🌌❤👽
Thanks Charlie! I hope you enjoy Gothtober!
Haha i love this, so here for it
I'm so excited you're joining us!
So glad you loved Bad Magic, and you've just completely sold me of Locke Lamora - I've owned the first book for YEARS and now I want to chuck in my entire tbr and read it 🌙
Bekka! Please! It's so good!
@@LadetteM I'll do my best to fit it onto my next tbr!
🚀🌙
Kylo jump scare
He's such a creep haha
God I really need to pick up more from Andy Weir, and I adore this idea so much!!
You would love it!
The shame of me loving gothic fiction and plays equally but have never read an inspector calls (because we didn't study it in NL). I need to get to it at some point. Love the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde! Dracula, one of my faves <3 Northanger abbey is top tier. If we were villains of course!! And I bought horrid in the waypoint books sale and I am excitement. Mina an the undead <3
I think you'll really enjoy An Inspector Calls because whilst it is Entry Level, it's also so layered! I think you'll get a lot out of it!
🌜
💛💛💛
Great vlog!! The way I've been DRAGGING my feet when it comes to Locke Lamora because I know it's not complete! I loved the first book but I'm scared to continue, plus there's the length and the whole "Great Fantasy Slump of 2024" I've got going on 😂😂
This might not be the year for it, but it's worth the wait I promise!
This video popped up in my recommended feed, and it's the first one of all the random recommendations I've gotten that I actually clicked on. If you read every piece of fiction that someone has written, I think it would be really cool for you to make a video describing the actual writing style and prose of the author as a whole, not specific to a particular book. Like I would definitely watch a video critiquing the manner in which a person writes, for example: Do they tend to describe things dryly like a Wikipedia article or are they overly descriptive? Are there writing similarities between the books? *If the author were to write a book about a completely unrelated topic without their name, would you be able to tell by the style alone that it's them writing it?* These types of discussions are what I was hoping this video would have provided.
That's such an interesting idea! And I think certain authors- yes, 100%, absolutely. Elizabeth Acevedo, Derek Landy and Sylvia Moreno Garcia are such distinct authors in my mind, I'm so sure I'd be able to recognise it!
I will treat myself to something nice when I am finally done. Obviously, it will be a book!
Obviously 😌
This is a great concept for a vlog series! I am looking forward to the next instalment already. I have been trying to finish the Hamish Macbeth series by MC Beaton for about a year now on audiobook and the end is in sight - two more novels to go (out of 36!) with two novellas/short stories to source after that.
That's such a great achievement though! Well done!
Good morning, thanks for sharing your writing sprint!
Love a feel-good Skulduggery sick read!
I was thriving whilst surviving hahaha
Spy x Family still looks so damn cute, people keep talking about it!
You'd really like it, it's fun!
Victorian gothic? Fine. Supernatural Victorian gothic? Adore it!
@@AbiofPellinor a vibe, is it not? Haha
Not read A Taste of Gold and Iron but I did read Running Close to the Wind by the same author and... had an interesting time lol
I knew it was either the book or the author but it has me NERVOUS
@@LadetteM once that soft boy had too much plot to deal with to keep being a pathetic simp? It improved greatly. So fingers crossed!!
Somehow I've never read An Inspector Calls! And my love for Dracula grows every day, I really need to reread it!! One day I'll read Mina and the undead 😅 CHOCOLAT IS DARK ACADEMIA??!!?!?! Some fab recs!!
You also need to pick up the great retellings! You'd really like an Inspector Calls. I just know it!
"like Shrek it is layered" 💀💀💀
