The Unchangeable Furnace Filter!!!
We couldn’t find a furnace filter at first! None at the cold air returns and it appeared none at the air handler! That’s not great. After looking into it more we found one inside the top of the air handler. This is a common place for them but there was NO access door and no way to get to it to replace or in this case, wash it.
This is a great reminder to check out your system and make sure there isn’t an old filter hiding somewhere. This can make the system work much harder than in has to and lead to more dirty air in the building.
This furnace had just been serviced but This isn’t something that a general servicing with necessarily catch. Glad we caught this on the home inspection!

Where do you buy it? Oh if you want more durability just use metal.
At the hardware store. Brilliant idea.
A must if you have kids......because they don't turn on the fan .....my daughter sets off our smoke detectors with her steam showers😅.
Agreed! I like to say they are great for outsmarting tenants and teenagers 👍
how do you change the battery? My floor is cold😢
Omg thank you so much loved into my second apartment in Seattle and still didn’t know what I was doing just clicking buttons
Glad it helped!
Thank you! Plumber said the only way was that ugly device - I don’t want an extra hole in the new counter top. This is what I’ll do!
If your system does require an air gap, there is also a through the wall option that vents to the exterior.
Wonder full briefing
Thank you. Sorry the audio was bad
I have similar issue, how do you fix this ?? Just to add another extension ?
Great question! If the shingles are already heavily worn, it may be best to replace that area. For an example of how to avoid this from being a problem, go to this channels playlist > roof playlist > second video from the bottom of that list
@@Stuffandthingstoknow Got it, thank you very much !!
My friend’s apartment has one in the closet and it hums pretty loud. Is this a potential cause for a fire?
Some buzzing or humming is normal. If it’s buzzing excessively or if it’s hot then probably worth replacing.
My teen age son flushed a travel size deodorant down my toilet and my landlord said I got to wait on a plumber it’s going to take 4 to 5 months did I wait ? Nope I took it off and got it out my self lol so my landlord brother said you a woman you want no how to caulk it Mean while when he install the toilet, he caulked it all the way around now who’s the real woman here? 🥂
Nice fix! That’s a long wait for a plumber!
And your point?

It worked, thank you 👍🏾 😊 🙏🏾
Awesome!
The app doesn't have this camera anymore
Bummer, it’s been a couple years since I’ve used it at this point. Probably similar principles…
@@Stuffandthingstoknowyeah unfortunately a lot of people have had similar issues according to the reviews. Thanks for trying.
You save my friend a lot of money with this, thank you dear!!
Awesome to hear!
Great Explanation! I didn’t realize how much wear and tear my roof had. I had some similar issues with my roof and chimney, and Top Hat Chimney & Roofing in Sugar Land took care of it all. They did a thorough inspection and fixed everything up for me. If you’re in Texas and need roof or chimney work
Thanks
How is the entire comments section not about that door handle?
Anyone know How to turn this light off please? 🙏
Please let us know if you find out!
Very helpful thanks!
Glad it helped!
Brass to galvanized is ok?
Yes, Brass and Galvanized “play well together”.
Cool. I’m just harry homeowner trying to do my own shower/tub replacement with pex. Seen alooot of different opinions. Hard to know. Ok so I’ll be connecting under the house to galvanized old pipes for time being with pex fitting actually found made from galvanized to convert. Then pex b supply lines and was going to do pex shower line up and pex down to 90 dog ear fitting for tub stub out but some say pex for tub line reduces diameter and could cause shower head to drip while tub is going. Is that true and should i use copper for tub line and stub out and what about shower line? Any help is greatly appreciated. I have no experience soldering so simpler the better. I’ve heard delta makes valve with copper tub spout attached. What do you suggest? Try to eliminate galvanized and any metal besides brass fittings as much as possible with the pex.
Hey dude, solvents aren't supposed to go onto surfaces dealing with food, and that includes cutting pure tung oil. So, no countertops, butcher blocks or cutting boards and definitely no wooden utensils. My understanding is if you want to use tung oil on those surfaces you accept the fact that you aren't going to thin it for the first one or two coats
Okay, this is used in a minimal amount on one coat. If you have any research beyond opinion to share go ahead. My opinion of that small amount used on the first layer in a non issue. You do you.
That's why I use the half and half from milk paint co. If the pure is too thick. Theirs is cut with citrus solvent that is food safe and evaporates out.
I have been exposed to vermiculite when pulling down a ceiling at a local authority within England, the asbestos register said there was no asbestos present, we pulled down the ceiling, asked the question and was told the sample taken after the incident contained no asbestos. What should I do?
Sorry man, I have no real experience on that side of things. If you could get your hands on the vermiculite you could send it in for your own testing. Not ALL vermiculite has asbestos ✅
We can hope that you were exposed to the not asbestos kind which is hugely possible :)
@@Stuffandthingstoknow fingers crossed.
Thank you! They seem quite noisy - can anything be done about that? They also keep going on and off which is annoying particularly in the night. Thanks in advance!
Newer ones may be quieter. The thermostat will make it turn on and off automatically when it hits certain temperatures. You could try adjusting that. If it doesn’t respond well to the thermostat you could try replacing the thermostat
The one directly above the bath/shower probably needs to be
What kind of company makes oil tanks ?(??
They were especially common in older home with oil furnaces and boilers.
Sorry the video was choppy. Hopefully the info was still helpful.
It was extremely helpful. Thank you very much for sharing this and helping me not blind people on the road

What if the receipt is long like home depot or Lowes?
Try just taking a photo of the numbers that matter.
@@Stuffandthingstoknow for accounting that would work but audit wise I think they would want to see everything on the receipt
great music!

The link for the bracket goes to ‘tung oil’. Would you please update?
Finally got around to it! Thank you for pointing that out!
Would probably benefit from a couple of whirlybirds.
Maybe!
i’m trying to use this hole where they have it for a glass cleaner. do you recommend the high loop for that
Sorry, I’m not familiar with the setup you’re going for…
What a mess
Agreed!
Its not stain !
You’re right. Also, potato, potato. Tung oil is not considered a stain: Stain Changes the color of the wood to enhance its appearance. Stains also accentuate the wood grain. Tung oil Enhances the wood's natural color and texture, but doesn't change it. Tung oil is a natural finish that oxidizes, hardening into layers that protect the wood.
How can I get 240volt from this running the wire straight to a 20A 250volt outlet . Thanks
I am not sure on a good answer for you. I’d recommend consulting an electrician.
The previous owner of my house used one of these to run power out to my shed and then to the barn but the wire between the shed and barn was cut. Power went out to both. I stripped and fused the broken wires together and replaced the fuse, but the power to the shed and barn still aren’t working. None of the breakers in the house were tripped. What am I missing?
Are we sure the fuse panel had power? Sounds like a good time to call an electrician yo help you out.
I’m an electrician looking to add home inspections onto my resume. I don’t like dealing with people but I feel like it won’t be too big of a problem. It’s not my fault they are trying to sell a house that is clearly in need of work. I’d love for them to blame me!
Sounds like you have plenty of technical qualifications. I would say being a home inspector (who actually gets jobs) is an intensely “people” business. Probably better ways for you to generate income IMHO.
Isn’t there a filter for that?
No filter for these. The pipe typically just terminates to the exterior, above the roof line.
What does it mean? When I press the test button it made it buzzing sound and a little bit of smoke came from it. If you could please help me out.
I would definitely replace the breaker and inspect the panel if that happened. If you’re not comfortable with that process I recommend having a reputable electrician out to do that.
@@Stuffandthingstoknow thank you so much for responding I will do that 🙏🏽
Thanks, bought the same preservative and soaking my cut 4x6s right now.
Way to go!
What about a house that has ridge vents…thinking of adding solar fans to draw humid/hot air (Houston area) out. One roofer says to seal the ridge vents and two say it doesn’t matter as long as we place them correctly. Thoughts?
It’s a little hard for me to visualize what you’re describing. Typically you wants vents as low as possible and vents as high in the roof line as possible to be effective for passive ventilation. Once you start pressurizing or depressurizing a space it gets a bit more complicated… I’d be hesitant to seal off the ridge vents personally.
The ratio I’ve heard passed around is to try and have about 60% of your venting down low and about 40% of your venting at the high point. Gable vents and fans can potentially mess up the natural convection process…
So what if basically everything in my house is connected to the gfci
That would be a little odd… normally you shouldn’t have more than 8, sometimes 10 receptacles on a circuit… if you’re having repeated issues it is a good idea to consult a local electrician.
Thank you very much my poor little mpv has been doing this for a couple of weeks
So glad you found it helpful!
lol culk
Thanks for this video
You’re welcome!
do you have any idea of how to transfer photos from older finepix cameras to pc? i've been trying to transfer from mine, but my pc just doesn't recognize the camera
You likely need to connect it to the computer with a usb cable. Depending how old the camera is, it may not have the blue tooth feature
@@Stuffandthingstoknow that's what i mean, i tried using the proper usb cable...
me too! i can’t transfer them

Fresh air ventilator with a filter would be a better idea than sucking hot air from the home.
That’s possible.
That hot air from the home would get pulled though the attic and fresh cooler air from the outside would be there in just a minute.
