14:55 just a correction, painful choice is banned in goat format. The banlist of goat is actually the banlist of april 2005, so we can say that PC was banned 1 format before goat. Man, would be crazy to use painful in goat lol

This was a fun blast from the past! My banlist hot takes: 1) If a card is an SJC/YCS prize card, reprinted, and later banned, the reprints should be banned but the original prize card copies should remain legal at 1, as a privilege for owning them. Crush Card Virus retains its original text. 2) YCS tournaments in the current era should have old school god-tier banned cards as prizes (Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity, etc.) with those specific printings being exempt from the ban list, but you can only use one total in your deck (so you can't go "screw the rules, I have money" and have a deck with 20 banned cards at 1, but individual cards that had the privilege of being legal could still command tens of thousands of dollars as you're not just buying the collectible, you're buying the opportunity to play the card and potentially win another prize card that could then be sold for shitloads.) 3) When the original banlist came out, I always thought that that should be the total number of cards they're able to ban - that is to say, if they wanted to ban a card in the future, they would need to unban something else to "make room" - only gaining ban slots when the total available legal card pool grew accordingly (e.g. if there were 2,500 legal cards and there were initially 13 banned cards, they would need to get to 5,000 legal cards in order to get to 26 banned cards.) It'd be fun to see them try and still keep the game balanced if they only had a limited number of bans to work with.

Love the video. One of my answers for cards that went from 3 to 0 in one banlist was Chaos Sorc - a lot of people seem to forget this one, but he was punished for his crimes harshly after Chaos Return formats

I ran the scripts to answer the final question. As of January 2025 where there are 470 unique cards have ever been on the list, the most ever from a single core set is a tie! It is between Pharaoh's Servant and Legacy of Darkness with 15 cards each. The rest of the top 10-ish is as follows: LOB/PGD/LTGY (11 cards), MRL/IOC (10 cards), DCR/INFO (9 cards), and MRD/PTDN/POTE (8 cards). The narrow card pool in early ygo certainly allowed for the first several sets to be among the most restricted of all time, but that was boring enough to say the most was from the third and fifth set of the game so I kept going. If you want to know the stat with specifically banned cards from any point in history (206 cards), the highest number from a core set is Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy with 9 cards. Other notable sets are Metal Raiders and Magic Ruler each with 7 cards, and PSV/LOD/IOC each with 6 cards. (I thought that's what was asked first, so I haven't done other stats like most limits from a single set.) Only 87 out of the current 93 core sets (that were released before the december list, up to ROTA) have any entries on a forbidden/limited list, and 59 sets out of these 87 core sets have had at least 1 ban so far.

This was a great video! I love trivia and the history of TCGs. History of yugioh was a great series to help me learn so many cool things about yugioh as someone who started playing yugioh in 2022 but only plays retro yugioh. You should definitely do more videos like this!

Mind Hacker was banned cause of Kashtira, it allowed you to lock all of your opponents monster zones with Shangri-Ira backed by a walking Macro Cosmos. Such a totally fun deck 😵‍💫

This is the format when I got back into Yugioh. Ran both six Sam’s and Chaos dragons cause so easy to build and we’re still competitive. Definitely one of the best formats

The summon/search happens atfer the cost, rota has no cost. With no once per turn on venus the games coding lets you activate the effect an infinite amount of times. The word "then" means that the cost is paid first then the summon. The games code doesn't check the deck to see if it's an illegal activation with no applicable targets

Crescent dragon and tri horned dragon are my favorite vanilla monsters. Also, what I really like about vanillas in general is the flavor text. The small lore given is pretty neat and rather interesting.

Also there are other gliches. -Cards being discard from the top of deck to the graveyard by a card effect are reconized by the game as banishing cards by the card "Soul Absorbtion". -Cards discarded from your hand to the graveyard by the effect of "called by the grave" are reconized by the game as cards discard by your oponent cards effect (this trigger the bonus effect of dark world monsters, and cards like "electric snake" and "elephant statue" monsters). -"Rope of Life" triggers the effect of dark world monsters. (In the real life game It would not happen because Dark world monsters do not activate their effects when discard as a cost). And many others.

Seems a bit disingenuous to call Konami not banning a ftk before they make the game a glitch in the title. Things like this pop up all the time in the game, but it's just taken care of by the banlist nowadays.

Put the explanation first or something. You playing through the "glitch" first i didnt know what was going on until after your long play of it. I know it its not just me because other comments are saying the same thing.

It's not a glitch, Venus isn't once per turn and since deck knowledge is private, technically you can activate a card effect even if there is no target in the deck, obviously after the first failed to find, its now public knowledge but they could also just lie about it since there's nothing in the rules about failed to finds, scummy to say the least but that's just the nature of the game sadly.

I imagine you didn't want to spend too much time going over every single normal monster used in YK format considering it is THE format in the TCG with the most amount of normal monsters in your average deck but I do want to mention Gyakutenno Megami. It being a 2k wall that requires 1 tribute means that Stall decks can use Soul Exchange to summon it in facedown defense to get around Trap Hole while removing an opponent's Man-Eater Bug. This may seem specific but it's actually part of the reason that Stall Mill is considered the best deck in the format atm. Love normal monsters so I wanted to drop this interesting piece of yugioh history :D
