Declaring 3NT - Should I hold up at trick one - lesson 6
Gidday. Here's a fun take on a classic conundrum:
Picture this: the opponents lead the suit dummy first bid. Now you're staring at the table with a choice-do you finesse for the jack or the king? It’s like being at an all-you-can-eat buffet, and you’ve got to choose which dessert to start with!
But wait, here’s the kicker-the Rule of 11 can swoop in like a superhero and save the day. Subtract the lead card from 11, and suddenly you’ve got a treasure map showing how many higher cards sit in the other three hands. It’s like having X-ray vision for the card layout!
So, how do you decide? The finesse isn’t just a guess-it’s an educated leap based on what you learn from the lead. Use the Rule of 11, channel your inner detective, and let the cards tell you their story. Every finesse is a puzzle, and this rule is the clue that cracks it.

Declaring 3NT - Should I hold up at trick one - lesson 5
มุมมอง 19314 วันที่ผ่านมา
Gidday. Here’s a fun one: You’re sitting pretty in 3NT, but uh-oh, the opponents have zeroed in on your Achilles’ heel. The question is - do you hold up, or grab your Ace like it’s the last Tim Tam in the pack?
Declaring 3NT - Pick the right suit to develp and read the Opponent's distribution - lesson 4
มุมมอง 36221 วันที่ผ่านมา
Gidday! Ever been stuck in 3NT, staring at two long suits-one in your hand, one in dummy-and wondering, “Which one do I go for?” Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! Check out this hand where I break down exactly why one suit takes the spotlight over the other.
Declaring 3NT - Reading the Opponents cards and preserving entries - lesson 3
มุมมอง 44428 วันที่ผ่านมา
Gidday. This lesson is all about channeling your inner detective to track the opponents’ cards while mastering the art of preserving entries to your winners. Think of it as guarding your secret stash of gold while keeping a clever escape route intact-strategy and cunning at its finest!
Declaring 3NT - How to read the Opponent's cards - Lesson 2
มุมมอง 1.2Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Imagine if you could peek into the opening leader's hand-talk about a superpower at the bridge table, right? Well, in this lesson, we're getting pretty close to that. With the Rule of 11, you've got a built-in blueprint to decipher their suit like a pro. It doesn’t stop there, either-you’ll also pick up on what the opponents are saying with every card they play. Think of it as reading between t...
Declaring 3NT - When not to duck the opening lead - Lesson 1
มุมมอง 978หลายเดือนก่อน
Gidday! The opponents make their opening lead, and boom - dummy turns up with the A-10-x-x staring you down, while you're holding the Q-J. Now the big question: do you strut out with the ace like you're taking charge, or do you go for the finesse, hoping to sneak one past them? Decisions, decisions!
Lesson 7. Should you duck the opening lead when you hold the Ace.
มุมมอง 673หลายเดือนก่อน
Gidday. So, the opponents fire off a king on lead. Now, here's the question: Do you let them have their moment of glory and sit on your ace for a bit longer, or do you swoop in like a superhero and slam it down straight away? Hold it up...or...play it at trick one - what's the right move?
Lesson 6. Should I play an honour from dummy when I know it has NO chance of winning the trick?
มุมมอง 374หลายเดือนก่อน
Gidday. The opponents lead an honour - now, do you cover with dummy's honour, even though you know it is doomed? Is it worth the drama?
Lesson 5. Use dummy's trumps as entries
มุมมอง 4212 หลายเดือนก่อน
Gidday! If dummy’s looking a bit feeble, don’t stress! Take a peek at those trumps - they could be your sneaky little helpers, getting you in and out of trouble and helping you make the hand!
Lesson 4. Do you overtrump, or do you discard a loser?
มุมมอง 5222 หลายเดือนก่อน
Gidday! Here’s a cheeky hand for you: To overtrump or to ditch a loser-that’s the burning question! Imagine this: You're in the hot seat, you've just led a winning card, and suddenly, the next player swoops in with a trump. Now you're sitting there like a cowboy at high noon, sizing up your options. Do you pull out your biggest trump and outgun them like a hero? Or do you toss one of your loser...
Lesson Three. See how an Opponent's discard reveals the distribution of the suit.
มุมมอง 6892 หลายเดือนก่อน
Gidday! In this video, I’m going to let you in on a little secret: how your opponent’s discard can spill the beans on the entire suit’s distribution! Yup, with just one card chucked away, you’ll know exactly what's going on in their hand. It's like reading their mail - without getting into trouble! Let’s dive in!
Lesson Two. Take advantage of the opening lead

Gidday! Want to get the upper hand right from the start? In this video, I show you how to sniff out clues from the opening lead to set your strategy in motion. Watch and learn how to spot opportunities to outsmart your opponents and take control of the game. It’s all about reading between the cards! Click play and get ahead from the get-go.
Lesson One. Should I draw trumps straight away

Well analysed & well played. I am not sure that I would have opened the North hand as it’s only 11HCPs and the 2nd suit ranks higher. If W opens a weak 2S South could bid 2NT North would raise to 3NT. Probably West would lead the JS so helping South to pinpoint the missing spades and 12 tricks for NS.

Thank you, Martin. Most top players are opening hands with 11 hcp these days, especially with a 5-4 distribution and "pure" holdings...such as the D-AQJ and the HA. Have a great day. Keith 😊

Hi archie6945. Yes. I totally understand. The most important decisions are made at trick one, BEFORE playing from dummy. Have a great week 😊

Very generous defence. Could and should have led a Club. Also West should play low on the 2nd Diamond. Only make 10 tricks now.

I agree. West was definitely gungho in rising with the queen of diamonds on the 1st round when partner might have held the singleton Jack...As a defender I would also have led a heart at trick one, one of the unbid suits, rather than a club when dummy has advertised both strength and length in clubs. Have a great day, Keith

Hi, I really enjoy your videos hope they'll be more. At the end why not still try a club ? If all strong clubs are in the hands without the heart there is a chance you can trump an other spade ?

Hi there. Thank you for your compliment. And yes, I will have a new hand for you every Monday (Australian time) for you to enjoy. And you make a great point regarding trying to trump my last spade in dummy. However, my last spade is the 12th spade, so one of the opponents is now out of spades and will certainly be able to trump higher than dummy. Have a great day! 😊😁

Why didn't you bid 2C at your first turn , or 4C at your second?

    • @keithkatbridge
      @keithkatbridge 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi there. Bidding 2C at my first turn is a game force. If I hold a balanced hand, I need at least 22 hcp. On this hand I am balanced and only hold 18 hcp. I could have bid 4C at my 2nd turn but this would have shown 6+ clubs. If, over my double, partner had rebid 4H (showing 5+), I was thinking that 6H might be a possibility. Great question! Cheers, Keith
