These 2 Tortoises were on this roof for 3 Decades and their owner had died. If they were not taken off the roof by someone the city/county was going to euthanize them. Not going to happen on our watch, we headed out before daylight to be there as soon as the sun came up. We believe they are Sudanese Sub Species of the Sulcata Species. OMG THIS MAKES ME WANT TO SCREAM!!!!!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, LEAVE THEM IN THE WILD, WHERE THEY BELONG!!!!!
So happy to see him zoom off screen. So fast now.
I will never understand people who feel like it is ok to possess animals that have a longer lifespan than a human and to keep them in such unsuitable conditions is just an added cruelty.
Thanks for rescuing the little creatures! Stellar.
I love y’all. You’re beautiful souls, and I know you’ll stay blessed.
I'm so glad to see Teddy doing so well. Your channel is my top choice. I'm still making a drive-through on my way to Nevada. Hopefully, you'll be open to the public then
💚
Lmfao @ the turkeys scratching in the background lol
Ooooh those poor torts! The absence of concavity in their carapace definitely made me think females as well but because theyre so malnourished and deformed WHO KNOWS! so glad theyre at a rescue and will get the care they need and deserve.
Someone tell her how to hold the phone if it’s going on TH-cam lol
@TheJuicyMon Still learning, sorry
@ it’s a great video nonetheless!
@ thank you ☺️
Cute
so you do know being from Sudan that rain fall is sparse and that they would only get a bath during the rainy season. It seems like you are 3 rd grader who read a weekly world news report
If you do not enjoy this channel, you can move on. Thank you
Im in S FL and every time it rains a lot u have turtles about that same size or slightly larger seem to lose their sense of directin and wonder off on to the streets. Sometimes they get run over. There r ppl like me who will stop in traffic n help them bk into a nearby pond.
@@NN-sj5uv Thank you for making a difference ☺️🐢💚
you guys really put to much human thought and emotion into the brain of the animals. they do not make complex thoughts or problem solving like humans. If they did, they would have discovered a way to get off that roof.
@@bobknobbe3561 When you do what we do every single day, you begin to understand how the brain of this animals works. The roof was very well blocked off and made impossible for them to get out of. Now if their enclosure wasn’t set up to be fully secured, they WILL find a way out. If we didn’t put in the thought or emotion, then their life would be left to suffering. Compassion my friend, thank you for your thoughts. ☺️💚🐢
Wtf is wrong with people??????????????? Thank you for rescuing them.
Omg 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼so beautiful 🤩
Thanks for what you do 🫡🇨🇦🤘💚
Maybe one of ur viewers is handy n can come up w a gadget that would mk it easier to put them in and out of that tub.
@NN-sj5uv one day perhaps! For now, we do it ourselves. With the biggest boys Tim & Harold, it takes both of us!
Her shell looks so nice - so colorful and shiny!
Hes just full of hot air!!! 🔥 😂😂😂😂
@@NN-sj5uv 😂☺️
He looks small. Do u think this can be corrected given that this might be q young animal?
@NN-sj5uv No this is permanent damage. He is at least 8 years old and has reached maturity. This is all irreversible unfortunately! But he is thriving, eats well and is very spunky! ☺️🐢💚
It almost looks like her shell is too small.
Hes looking like he is in rough shape, poor guy! Would tortoises eat him?
@NN-sj5uv No the tortoises would not eat him.
Do these guys eat watermelon? Parrot Jungle in Miami has 2 huge tortoises, not sure what breed, but iI used to love watching them feast on watermelons. Their jaws r incredibly strong!
We do not feet fruits to the tortoises. The tortoise digestion process takes approximately 10-14 days for which the excess sugars will end up killing the gut flora
I love the way you interact with the turtles, I can clearly see how much love and respect you have for them. ❤
@@phaedrapage4217 Thank you! ☺️🐢💚
Have u guys been impacted by fires?
@@NN-sj5uv No thankfully ☺️
So as i spend time on ur channel, so far i've kearen that these #reaearedsliderturtles procreate fast and can take over fresh water ponds, thus, they are considered an invasive species. Is there such a thing as fixing turtles? Looks like u have more than this pair - how do u keep them from reproducing?
@@NN-sj5uv We are unsure if they can be fixed, that is a great question. We keep them from reproducing by housing them in separate ponds, Male from Female.
This is so true!!! You can be an animal lover yet not be in a situation where u can mk a difference to help an animal. In fact, u might even be putting yourself in a stressful or risky living situation. Not everyone has the ability to reach out or seek out assistance or live in an area where rescues like u exist. Thank u for the work you do! 🎉🎉🎉 I hope u have a large family that will carry on ur legacy. Most ppl who buy pets should be made aware of the decades long commitment they r making when acquiring certain species. ❤
@NN-sj5uv Thank you for your support! Our children inherit the sanctuary to carry out the care of these magnificent creatures! ☺️🐢💚
Were u guys able to get any background info on these 2 rescue babies from either friends or family of the deceased owner? Was the deceased owner an elderly person? Its just baffling that no one ever tried to resolve the sitiation!
@@NN-sj5uv the info we have provided is all the info we received. The owner was elderly and had no family, just his friends that lived next door.
That tongue !!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I wish you had called the fire department for help. I'm 100% sure any one of them would have been honored to assist in this amazing rescue. ❤ I don't know anything about tortoises or turtles, but I am so struck at their beauty.
Do you ever introduce these rescues to the other tortoises that r long-time residents of ur facility?
@@NN-sj5uv No, as much as us humans like to think animals need companions and friends, tortoises do not like friends and they don’t need them. Since Tim and Harold have grown up together in such horrible conditions, we feel them two being together fits their needs. Placing any other tortoise in there would just stress them out and the other tortoise. These guys are so large that it would be unsafe to place another in there as well. Tortoises should really never be kept in pairs, only in groups or solitary but Tim and Harold have such a strong bond through their survival, that separating them would be detrimental to their health and adding anymore would do the same. ☺️💚🐢
Criminal! Tortoises have the memories of the Universe in their brains. I know, I admit, I am crazy "turtle-lady". I rescued a RES 13 years ago. 4 tanks later, she has a custom-built, 250 gal tank with a built-in haul out and basking platform. Over $2500.00 for a $1.25 turtle, purchased in NYC, by a patient for her 9 y.o. Their lack of care made me sick. Clemmy is happy, healthy and wishing she was never fished from some river in China. My poor Clemmy.
What about this species mks him undesirable?
They are a carnival prize. There is an over abundance of them, they breed like crazy if allowed, which is what most people allow them to do. The red eared slider is a very invasive species. But we feel they deserve a good life too. Most people throw them in a river or lake and which they are not native to and they over take the habitat for native turtles. It’s sad, but if we can help as many as we can, then that’s what we do. One day at a time ☺️🐢💚
Why wouldn't u bring food with you while rescuing them big babies?? They are so scared and stressed out... atleast with food they could of gotten to eat and realized u were the to help them!!
@@misshenderson1 No, the food would not have made any difference. The last thing on their mind was food. It is different with a tortoise. It took several days of being here with us to even eat. The best thing is not to offer food as they won’t eat it anyway, it is to allow them to relax and begin getting comfortable in a whole new world. ☺️💚🐢
This makes me so angry. 20 years? That's insane
Sooooo cute !
What the heck is wrong with people. Glad the person who did this is gone, so these guys can have a better life.
❤❤❤
O gosh!!! He's eating! ❤
Whats up with your hands homy 😅
I LOOKED UP, "CAN PYRAMIDING BE REVERSED?" 🐢No, shell pyramiding in tortoises cannot be reversed, meaning the existing raised scutes on the shell cannot be smoothed out; however, by providing proper care and correcting environmental conditions, you can prevent further pyramiding and ensure new shell growth develops normally, making the existing pyramiding appear less noticeable as the tortoise grows. 🐢Key points about shell pyramiding: Cannot be reversed: Once a scute has developed a pyramid shape, it cannot be reshaped. Preventative care is key: By ensuring proper diet, humidity levels, and access to UVB lighting, you can prevent further pyramiding from occurring. New growth will be normal: If you correct the care issues, new shell growth will develop smoothly, minimizing the appearance of existing pyramiding.
@So-I-Said Exactly! ☺️🐢💚
This is the nightmare short that led me to you lovely people and the arborists who helped rescue Tim and Harold. Thank you 🐢
Thank you for your support! ☺️🐢💚
🐢SHARING INFO ON SCUTES😀 A scute is a bony plate or scale that makes up a turtle's shell. The word scute comes from the Latin word scutum, which means "shield". What are scutes made of? Scutes are made of keratin, the same material that makes up human fingernails. Keratin is a dead tissue, so scutes don't have nerves or a blood supply. What happens to scutes as a turtle grows? As a turtle grows, its shell grows with it. New scutes develop underneath the old ones, allowing the shell to expand. Turtles shed their scutes during periods of molting. What can cause a turtle to shed its scutes? Turtles may shed their scutes if they are covered in algae, damaged, or infected. What are the different scute configurations for different species? Different species of turtles have different scute configurations. For example, a green sea turtle hatchling typically has five vertebral scutes and four lateral scutes.
With proper hydration can pyramiding be reversed partially or in full? Now I'm off to look up scutes. I think its the individial pieces of the shell but best to research facts. 🐢♡
@@So-I-Said the pyramiding is irreversible but with proper hydration we can prevent further damage and that’s what we do! ☺️💚🐢
Mater's limb may be an example of muscle atrophy caused by lack of use. Imprisoned in a small box he had no choice but to not move. Caught in time is a blessing❣️
@@So-I-Said Sadly a tarp was wrapped around his leg for at least a week. He is doing so much better, he is almost planting his foot now ☺️🐢💚
Encourage interest with books videos and trips to sanctuaries but do not imprison creatures for your child's amusement. 🐢 Just Say No to Owning 🐢
Is their shell supposed to be so pale like that?
@@dianasthings729 the shell is made of a thing layer of bone topped with Keratin. The Keratin is dry from lack of hydration. Also the keratin changes color over time with age.
Please, when you have time, can you give us an update on Teddy? ❤ Thank you for caring for these remarkable beings!
