Face To Face - Part One - THE FEAR OF MISSING OUT
FEAR OF MISSING OUT
Face to Face - Part One
(From Fear to Freedom)
Luke 1:5-25, 57-58
December 1, 2024
1:5 In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron.
6 Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly.
7 But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old.
8 Once when Zechariah’s division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God,
9 he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.
10 And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.
11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense.
12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear.
13 But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.
14 He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth,
15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born.
16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God.
17 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous-to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
18 Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”
19 The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.
20 And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”
21 Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple.
22 When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak.
23 When his time of service was completed, he returned home.
24 After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion.
25 “The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.”
57 When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son.
58 Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy.
When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. - Luke 1:12 NIV
Everyone experiences gaps in their lives where they feel they are (missing out).
Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly. But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old. - Luke 1:6-7 NIV
It is better to know (God) than to know why.
God acts when His (people pray).
But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.” - Luke 1:13 NIV
Zechariah continued to (pray) and (serve God) despite huge disappointments.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” - Matt. 7:7-8 NIV
Even a (little faith) brings about big results.
Zechariah said to the angel, “How can I know that what you say is true? I am an old man, and my wife is also old.” - Luke 1:18 ERV
Zechariah no longer really expected God to (answer his prayers).
“I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” - Matt. 17:20 NLT
God’s answers are better than (our hopes).
“You will have great joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the eyes of the Lord…. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even before his birth. And he will turn many Israelites to the Lord their God.” - Luke 1:14-16 NLT
“I tell you, no one ever born is greater than John.” - Luke 7:28 ERV

Growing in our New Lives - Pastor John Beck
Amen! He speaks the Lord’s word.
This is a man of God. He preaches the word of God, not what he thinks the word is. Mark Price is a wonderful leader. God is proud of you, pastor.
I will sleep in Christ and rise when he calls. Brother Mark is a man of God, the one true God. Mark is leading us to Christ.
I cannot hide the fact any more that I am having fun at church. My mind not long Maher worries about the world for the time I attend church.
I must confess that I learned about this church from a friend at work. This minister is working miracles in my life by revealing the truth about God. In effect, God is using him to move me. I can not thank my friend enough.
This is why he is the only preacher I will ever follow in my walk with Christ. He tells the Bible and God's truth. He does not interpret it with his own ways. He is the mouthpiece of the Lord God of Israel. He walks with Jesus, not near him.
