My Party is about to face one of these, I homebrewed the stats based on an Ulitharid, but instead of brain eating, the grab attack does the blood spikes and raises my Parties insanity meter(I have an insanity counter in my game) by a serious amount. This is going to be brutal.
I remember getting grabbed by a lantern of them while another one was walking up. The camera closed in on it and I had to look down for a sec because of how grotesque it looked 😂.

I have a bit of a theory, it could be possible that what the winter lanterns are singing happens to be the music box theme, there seems to be some parts that line up pretty good.
Maybe in other tempo.

I love the audio design of these things. Its weirdly out of tune and disturbing, yet it invokes the same effect as a childs lullaby. Almost as it was trying to soothe something. Funny considering that the locations with the most Winter Lanterns are at the Brain of Mensis and in the caverns next to Kos's corpse and the Orphan.

The grotesque creature romes the halls of the Nightmare of Mensis. A home created by the finest minds of Yharnam, made into their prison and corrupted by their own lust for power and knowledge. The beast was a conglomerate of eyes and mouths, tendrils, and loose flaps of flesh, draping themselves over it’s shoulders like a morbid cowl. It was a singing sentinel, maddened by hunger. It’s song, only being understood by the maddest of adventurers. You weren’t quite sure if it was even real. If it was even a beast. Or if it was a kin. All you knew is that it looks human enough… So it must bleed… Right?

The main factor here is not the song itself, but rather who sings it. When I hear it I instantly get that unsettling image in my head and my hands immediately begin to tremble. That's what I call fear.

I've always find that I had to close my eyes and rip apart every living thing around me with my axe when I hear singing this song.
