I had to stop to enter this Rock trivia when your Yank began his 11 picks with album #15 at the bottom noting AMLOR.... Those pesky English Rock music critics seldom talked positive about itveither. Years ago @ 🕛 on 9/12-13/01 he was likely sound asleep and not tuned into Coast to Coast AM. Their late host 🎗 Ian Punnett began the show reading his new e-mail giving no one credit. He read the titles to all ten tracks with eleven songs counting a side B "Round and Round". Ian did not elaborate on that and went on with his show. To me there was no elaboration needed on what American city was implied in their 10 tracks that paralleled the tragic event on 9/11/01. The album title alone explained that day.😥 I was tuned into Ian and stop in and let us know if you were listening too.

Impossible to choose from, it depends on the mood of the day. I'm really surprised nobody picked Butterfly Collector? I know it was (briefly) mentioned but what a classic tune! Deserved a lot more love from you all! You mentioned something about " lads music" and I get that. I'd say the vast majority of Jam fans are male. I'm a woman and even I feel like having a scrap when I hear Going Underground! There's something rousing about that song, especially the beginning - it's like a call to arms. Just now came across this. Post-punk has been a lifelong obsession for me -- the very two first albums I bought at age 9 were Gary Numan's The Pleasure Principle and Talking Heads - Fear of Music. My college radio show Dr. Fester's Bucket O' Nasties focused on post-punk, and briefly on public radio. On a couple shows, my friend Kristen Pfaff was a guest and she lent me her CRASS records -- I used a cut from Peni$ Envy on one featuring feminist post-punk, including The Raincoats, Slits, Essential Logic, The Au Pairs, and, interestingly, "Credit in the Straight World" by Young Marble Giants. That was in 1990, a few years before she was in Hole. Props to Jeremy for the heads up on Basement 5 -- I hit a wall searching for them years ago and forgot about 'em, but will be able to listen to 'em shortly. Just over a week ago I got a nice batch of reissues, Magazine albums on colored vinyl, and also the first three The Sound albums on Rhino, also colored vinyl. I've been champion both them and Comsat Angels since my radio show days, and slowly the word is spreading. Were they on the radar for anyone here? My list: 1. Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures 2. Wire - 154 3. The Feelies - Crazy Rhythms 4. Wire - Pink Flag 5. Joy Division - Closer 6. The Sound - From The Lions Mouth 7. The Comsat Angels - Sleep No More 8. Gang of Four - Entertainment! 9. The Sound - Jeopardy 10. The Comsat Angels - Waiting For A Miracle 11. The Slits - Cut 12. Public Image Ltd. - Metal Box/Second Edition 13. Wire - Chairs Missing XTC - Black Sea The Birthday Party - The Birthday Party Echo & the Bunnymen - Heaven Up Here Magazine - Secondhand Daylight The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette Echo & the Bunnymen - Crocodiles Killing Joke - Killing Joke The Raincoats - Ody Shape Siouxsie & the Banshees - Juju Magazine - Real Life Bauhaus - In the Flat Field The Cure - Pornography Siouxsie & the Banshees - Kaleidoscope The Raincoats - The Raincoats I'd consider these post-punk adjacent, smoking in the alley outside the club, but not in it -- The Idiot, Low, Doc at the Radar Station, Pere Ubu, Television, Talking Heads, XTC.

My top 3 Christmas songs: White Winter Trees - The Staves. In a just universe this would be a massive hit, their vocal harmonies are immaculate, the video is superb too. Great song. River - Joni Mitchell. Peerless song craft, aching melody, has that melancholy in the piano where she plays with the Jingle Bells riff, very clever. wonderful reflective lyric as usual, probably too sad for the masses getting their crackers in Poundstretcher. Classic Joni. Charlie Freak - Steely Dan. Incredibly sad song with the most sublime lyric about a homeless junkie who finally succumbs to his tragic circumstances, the sleigh bells at the end give this added poignancy. Probably not one you will hear in Tescos but genius songwriting nevertheless. Happy Holidays . . .😊

English not being my mothertongue, I take the liberty to not putting the greatest emphasis on the actual lyrics of a song. So for me Siouxsie's voice is more like another, masterfully played, instrument. And my list looks very different as a result of my approach on listening to music. So in no particular order other than the date of release (why even bother!) my favourite songs are these: Switch, Placebo Effect, Happy House, Spellbound, Into The Light, Nightshift, Sin In My Heart, Cascade, Melt, Dazzle, Red Over White, Candyman, Lands End and Rhapsody. With Free being my favourite band for the last 45 years, I find it impossible to rank the 7 albums, except that I have long felt that 'Free At Last' is the weakest, (comeback album and maybe hastily written) but still sounds great. I do know that if you take the 10 best songs from the 6 Paul Rodgers Bad Company albums ('Fade Away', 'Bad Company', ' Morning Sun' etc), you would have an album that ranks just below 'Free At Last'.
