Wow, is this a rare DRC tape? I’ve been listening to her mixes for years & have no recollection of ever hearing this one. Stoked for it tho- in recent years I’ve fully fallen in love with downtempo/trip hop/ambient sounds, so I’m super interested in hearing such a mix from DRC, who is, imo, a top notch selector. Will report back after listening!

Super cool to hear this mixtape. I've known about Bassland since I discovered their music play on Music Choice: The Pulse of all things. I liked their unique sonic palette and the variety of genres they explored. Got a copy of their 2000 self-titled album a while back as I loved what I heard and wanted to hear more. The opening cut was listed as "Untitled" so I almost mistook this upload for that song. This is even cooler though, with none of the tracks from that album being present (well, one slight exception). I checked their page on ReverbNation and it appears they released a couple mixtapes, although they only have certain tracks from the first and third from 1995 and 1997 respectively. I'm most intrigued by the latter. The cut which starts at around 1:10:16 sounds like an early version of what would become one of the few tracks of theirs to see a wider release, "Empty Sea Of Nothingness", featured on the "Pacific Rhythm" compilation released by Harthouse/Eye-Q in 1996. This version sounds darker and is much longer than the version which appears on that release, which was reused for their self-titled album. It's a definite highlight on the tape, although much of the rest are solid bangers or chill tracks as well. Thanks for uploading this.
