29/09/2024 Kakucsring (Hungary) laps - 2002 MK3 Toyota MR2 4K
So with the C2 track car sold and the RX8 in hibernation, I decided to take the C2’s replacement on track at Snetterton. However, I had some technical difficulties with a loose suspension arm and so my track day ended after the sighting laps so I have no recordings.
After that I decided that I would drive the MR2 to my home country (Hungary) for some fun and almost immediately went on a track day at a local track (Kakucsring).
The car performed flawlessly and I really enjoyed my first time there. I’m uploading all the laps that I recorded, some were okay, some were decent but I do feel like I’m being limited by tyres despite being on semi slicks.
Enjoy!

I had to replace the turbo oil feed pipe, intake hoses, eolys fluid add and changed the oil. Now it runs great and i would recommend anyone to get one IF if it has service records. Oh and don't forget to order 2 banjo bolts (They have mesh inside, it's really important to replace them) and be sure to get the correct ones. There are 2, and both are different sizes. It was pretty difficult to find the correct parts but if you need help let me know and i will tell you more. • @livinglifesideways7826
      @livinglifesideways7826 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it’s not like you’re being forced to watch the video. Either way, these types of videos are supposed to just focus on the driving…it’s not a review. Channels like AutotopNL are very popular and they do both types of videos…one where they focus on the driving with no commentary and also a review style video because some people prefer one or the other. Nowhere do I state that this is a review. If I stated this was a POV drive and I kept talking throughout the entire video, that would have also been a waste of time. My 8 is in the exact same colour code mate (grey with the original alloys in black, black boot lip etc). Owned mine a couple of years. I run the Millers 10w40 too. De-catted (just know a very decent mechanic when it comes to the MOT r.e. emissions, lol). What sparks are you using? Changed the sparks and leads last year to some Iridium NGK's Tyres, I still stick with the Potenza Sports but haven't heard of those Roadstone Eurovis. If they're what you're using on this trackday so sound really grippy and look to handle really well!! Clutch + Gearbox - I upgraded my clutch to stage 2 last year but you seem to shift a fraction quicker at the redline than mine. What have you done there to either gearbox or clutch? Do you use this as a daily too or just pure track use? I've got a couple of cars so I probably only do 150 miles a month in this thing given the 9/10MPG on 99 octane P.S. Just Subscribed

      Thanks for the sub Matthew. I’m actually just about to publish another video with my “best” lap which isn’t perfect but it’s a fairly clean lap. It’s my first time at Cadwell too so didn’t want to crash. As for your comment. I’ve actually got a galaxy grey boot lip but aside from that it’s all the same I think. Mines running a 200cel sports cat at the moment which does actually pass emissions which is a nice bonus. I’m using the same spark plugs as you, they’re pretty much as good as you can get. The Denso ones have different heat ratings which aren’t quite right for normal use. I have however, got some RRP MKIII coils and MSD leads. The tyres I’m only using as they were recommended by a friend and they are dirt cheap (£180 for a set) and for how they perform you simply cannot go wrong. I’ve done nothing to the clutch or gearbox just a fluid change last year myself. It just has an Exedy clutch. Not much point in going for anything else at stock power levels. And nope I don’t use this as a daily but it also isn’t just a track toy, I’d say it’s more for weekend use occasionally as well as track. Thanks again for the sub :-)

    Don't clean your rear rims with expensive rim cleaner! You have drum brakes so NO brake dust. Cleaning with water or APC is fine and will save you some money

    • @livinglifesideways7826
      @livinglifesideways7826 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is still some brake dust and also other bits of contamination. When you drive in wet weather, all sorts of road grime gets deposited on the rear wheels the same way as the fronts therefore it is worth using a wheel cleaning solution as water will not get any of that off. You mentioned water or APC but those two are not the same, so I wouldn't say use either water or APC. APC can of course be used when cleaning wheels which aren't heavily soiled but wheel cleaner always tends to do the best job. Also the wheel cleaner I have was fairly cheap and it is still non acidic so I would just rather use it all around as it makes very little difference in terms of how much money I'd save. I think if the car was being professionally washed and you saw them cheaping out on wheel cleaner just because you've got drum brakes at the back then I think you'd feel slightly annoyed, or maybe that's just me. Plus it's just nice to follow the same routine all round and APC tends to dry a bit quicker compared to my wheel cleaner so it's not very brush friendly.

      The Polo would be a lot faster I think especially as it has a DSG gearbox. It’s also quite a big car compared to the Up. It’s basically a Golf. However, even though Up looks small but is actually very practical, I’ve basically used it as a little van in some situations. And with the mods that it has listen in the description with 150hp, it’s plenty quick enough for British roads and sounds amazing considering it’s just a 1 litre 3 cylinder turbo. I would recommend one if you can get one for 11k maybe 12k max for a 19 plate like mine. Wouldn’t pay nearly 20k for them new though.

    Great video buddy, I have a similar set up Miltek Road+, JBS stage1, also Bilstein B12 suspension and ST spacers (from JBS) well worth it for B roads.

      Very nice 👍 I’ve poly bushed the front ARB on mine, that’s as far as the suspension mods have gone. I’ve mainly gone for power as it’s a daily driver and I want to get my money’s worth from the factory suspension

    Having got one just recently, it's funny how you can you up to 6th gear in them pretty quickly. I more or less do 1, 3, 6 for chilled driving. Definitely in many ways more fun than the Golf R I just had before it! :-)

    • @livinglifesideways7826
      @livinglifesideways7826 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of the popping sounds is the exhaust, as it has been remapped, it’s also received the crackle on the overrun feature from JBS and it is really loud with a non-resonated exhaust but almost cannot be heard with a stock exhaust.

    Hi, great video and driving. Looks rapid, do you think a standard up gti is still pretty rapid and most importantly fun as that is probably what I would just have? I used to own a twingo rs, great fun, then got an abarth which I hated, then got another twingo rs, then foolishly sold that one to get a bigger car. Was looking for something to give me the fun factor my twingo used to. Thanks, Will

    • @livinglifesideways7826

      Thanks, it’s definitely fun even when standard, the Twingo RS is a great car for sure but I would definitely recommend this. It’s a shame about their price though because I don’t think they’re worth it anymore new...however, if you can get a used one for around 11/12k then that’s still decent value in my eyes. I got mine for £12,300 around 2 years ago now basically new with a couple of miles on it as a demo car.

      I had a Twingo and loved it. Bigger car upgrades and since Feb got the Up GTI. It is amazing and fast enough as is, leaving many things behind on twisty roads, from traffic lights and in convoy overtakes. it is just so agile.and gives that grin factor all the time like the Twingo did. Quick driving and I still can't get less than 5.5 litres / 100km and I go up and down mountains here.

    • @livinglifesideways7826

      Yes I do love the Tungsten silver, I think it’s one of the best colours especially with the black roof and the carbon mirror covers I installed. And yeah this is a great car, daily driver for me. Mine has a Forge induction kit, a Racingline turbo elbow and a map from JBS so instead of the factory 113bhp, it’s putting out 150bhp and 240nm of torque so it’s much quicker than standard and still gets well over 50mpg average.

    • @livinglifesideways7826

      It was actually surprisingly comfortable. Not noisy at all for what it is. Plenty of room. And this particular one is now packing 150hp and 250nm of torque so even on the autobahn, it is absolute fine and doesn’t behave like a small hatchback. We were very impressed with it and would do the trips again. Fuel consumption was also excellent. Around 4.5 litres / 100km or around 55-60mpg which I think is pretty impressive especially given that in Germany we were averaging around 100-110mph (around 160-180kph).
