The Flame Test on Shoe Polishes: The Paul Brunngard Lab
มุมมอง 6103 หลายเดือนก่อน
Mr. Anders Sundstrom takes us through to the Paul Brunngard lab to test the capacity of a variety of shoe wax polishes to create a shine. He calls it the flame test. Solvents are a key component of wax polishes, as they amalgamate the various waxes into a malleable mixture, enabling smooth application while allowing the use of harder, glossier waxes for superior shine. Indeed, solvents are an e...

What separates a beginner from the expert in spitshine? Mr. Anders Sundstrom (Swedish Shoeshining Champion) asserts that there three key principals to an expert spitshine. Principle 1. Allowing the wax to harden giving it time Principle 2 2. Manipulating the temperature of water (ice water allows the wax to solidify faster and warm water to finish the shine) Principle 3. Make use of solvents to...

The Art of the Spitshine (Mirror Shine): Foundational Guide with Anders Sundstrom
มุมมอง 22K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
The key to a good spitshine or mirror gloss does not lie in the amount of waxed used. Rather it is in the balance between water and wax during the spitshine process, as Mr. Anders Sundstrom (Swedish Shoeshining Champion). Preparing the surface, using the right amount of wax, alcohol, and timing are all important ot the spitshine. Filmed at the Arterton Lounge and produced by Arterton London. Vi...

High-End Shoe Care: The difference between Shoe Waxes and Creams (Paul Brunngard)
มุมมอง 2.5Kปีที่แล้ว
As Mr. Anders Sundstrom (Swedish Shoeshining Champion) explains, waxes and creams serve different functions. One consideration is whether the product "re-pigments". That is whether it has colour content that adds to the shoe. The Artistic Cream, for example, is meant to rejuvenate colour to worn shoes. Another consideration is the product's behavioral properties. The reviving cream is an all-ro...
Bringing Home New Shoes: 3 Shoe Care Tips
มุมมอง 2.8Kปีที่แล้ว
Bringing home a new pair of hand-welted or Goodyear welted shoes is an exciting affair. Usually, the factory finish is more than enough. But Swedish Shoeshining Champion, Mr. Anders Sundstrom, offers three additional tips for portraying your new pair of shoes in the best light. A little bit a preparation also goes a long way in keeping them in good condition.
Shoe Care Fundamentals: Restoring and Nuturing the Leather using the Reviving Cream
มุมมอง 3.5Kปีที่แล้ว
Proper shoe care often involves an order of priority. Using a shoe brush with thicker bristles, such as horsehair, usually comes first. This act removes dust and prepares the shoe for the second step, which is to treat the leather. Cue the new Paul Brunngard Reviving Cream. Its function is two-fold. First, it dissolves any surface debris left untouched by the round of brushing. Secondly, it rej...

Hand-welted Shoes: Sole Edge Maintenance with Anders Sundstrom
มุมมอง 23Kปีที่แล้ว
As Mr. Anders Sundstrom (Swedish Shoeshining Champion) explains, the sole edge is often a neglected part of the shoe, which can let down the appearance of an otherwise good shoe. The reason for this is often because no specific product is available to the enthusiast for the caring of the sole edge. Shoemakers have access to a hot sole edge iron, whilst ordinary enthusiasts do not. The Paul Brun...
Luxury Shoe Brushes from Paul Brunngard: Cleaning vs Polishing
มุมมอง 12Kปีที่แล้ว
There are two types of brushes, as Mr. Anders Sundstrom explains. Cleaning brushes ought to have stiffer bristles, which allows one to remove the dust, dirt, and old waxes from the shoe. Horsehair lends itself as the right material here. On the other hand, both Goathair and, to a greater extent, Yakhair are inherently softer, which are conducive to non-intrusively applying the product on the sm...

Shoe Hand-welting at the Yearn Shoemaker Workshop

Shoe Hand-welting at the Yearn Shoemaker Workshop
I’m new to the world of shoe shining, drawn into it by Mr. Anders Sundstrom's knowledge and passion for shoes. So far, I’ve achieved excellent results, but I’m mindful that I still have a long way to go.
Your method is unapplicable if you are in the military. You don’t have time to let stand your shoes or boots à couple of days because drill sargents will not appreciate you take your time.
Can you do this to the bottom of the shoes if the color is scuffed and faded?
The new definitive guide to bow ties.
The best how to tie a bow tie instruction I've ever seen.
After watching your videos, I bought a bunch of these products! However, I found that there is not a wide selection of colours there. I used the smoky mahogany, and it darkened my shoes wayfar. Also, you are advised to leave 2 to 3 days after ist coat of wax! Is it possible in the real busy world? When I use Saphir products I finish my MIRROR SHINE in under 60 minutes!
Very nice video 😊
as a pyromaniac, i enjoyed this video
My dad was US Navy and taught me to spit shine when I was about 8 years old. I spit-shined his boots for years. It really is about the patience involved. Buff, thin layers with water, hard fast circles, a little at a time, and my shoes to this day are military spit-shined. So are my husband's. And, yes, it means something. People see it and just adjust their estimation of you. It goes up. Every time. it says "I care." (Oh, I spit shine his belts, too.)
I think that you could’ve shown those sole edges better
The major problem with this video is how it hasn't reached 1M views yet. From the camera work to the detailed and clear explanations, we have a gem right here. Chhers from a new subscriber!
Beautiful work and boy.
Mr. Sundstrom , I would like to communicate with you through an email address.
Glad to have my own sole edge iron from Arterton London now. I used it once and the result is great! I can absolutly recommend it! One question: I used it for black sole edges. Now, I of course have black residues on the sole edge iron. When using it next time for example for a light brown sole, won't the black residues change the colour of the sole? How can I remove those black residues from the sole edge iron? With the hand and/or an old shirt, it works for perhaps 50% of the residues. :D Thanks again for your products and well done videos
Fantastic! How much do you charge just for that !! Love your vids man, short and to the point
Hello! I recently scuffed a brand new pair of cognac leather shoes for my upcoming wedding. The scuff mark is at the tip of the shoes where there is darker pigment. Would spit shining the tip remove the scuff? Thanks - J
If only I could buy your products. Listened to you on the Gentlemen’s Gazette and was impressed. After a search I couldn’t find anyone to buy off. I’m in Australia and feel left out.

What shoe brand/model/color is that?! I want em! Please and thank you!
Thank you. They are our Yearn OXF 338 Captoe in Brown Patina, which is available on the Arterton website or in-store.
Is that a black leather glove you put on for the shining process or are they latex gloves??
Good Video! You should use a shoe tree as well.

thanks for the nice video. Who is the shoemaker of these stunning Adelaides you have there?
I just bought the sole edge iron and it’s an innovative product, that is very useful. Thanks for video explaining how to use it!
Our pleasure!
No one in today's world has the time for doing this ,nore dose anyone care to,since most people were cloth shoes.
Yes they do, you need to make time a decent shoeshine doesn't require more than 5-10 minutes maybe an hour tops if you're going for a mirror shine but a high shine is usually more than enough to make a good statement
No. Those of us that actually own quality like to take care of them. Go back to your sneakers that you replace every year and I’ll stick with my horsehide boots I’ve had for 6 years.
Looks like some don't have the time to learn how to write properly.
Very nice, all I know is I ain’t getting my shoes to look like that
Every British Soldier is an expert at doing this and if you want to cheat buy some floor cleaner named BLU and apply it with a cloth and you won't believe the fantastic shine it gives to the boots Top Tip for ya 💂😜
That's very interesting. Thank you!
Sorry it's called Klear not blu.. Brainfreeze 🤣
Hi, first of all, thank you for your video and sharing your knowledge with us. Indeed, I know a little bit more then the basics of shoeshining because of my personal interest in leathershoes and shoeshining as well as working in a leathershoe store once a week. But of course I do not have the experience of a world leading shoeshine-expert. May I ask you the following question: I know yakhair-brushes bring more shine on the leather then goathair-brushes, but goathair also has a great impact on the shine of a leathershoe. Do you recommend always using a goathair-brush first for shining the shoe before using the yakhair-brush in a second shining step? Or is it also enough using one of those goat- and/or yakbrushes? Thank you very much. Hopefully, there will follow some other shoeshine-videos of you. I honestly like the quality of your content.
Thank you for the kind words. We've asked Anders for you and he's also delighted to read your comments. Here's what he had to say: Dear viewer, thank you for a valid question. Both the yak and the goat are polishing brushes, aimed to brush up a higher shine compared the the conventional horse hair. However they do possess individual unique properties. The goat hair is exceptionally soft, this means the capacity to remove excess product, wax & pigment etc,is poor, but the soft nature helps to retain a very good gloss. However this means you will be limited to using this brush to when you have pre brushed with a coarser brush, typically horse tail hair providing a rigid bristle. It is ideal to use on a shoe that is processed with spitshine/mirror shine technique. Often when you want to provide a finish and not damage or remove wax. PS never use a brush directly on a top tier spitshine. Now the yak, this brush is similar to the goat in softness, slightly less so I would argue. Just feel the bristle of goat vs yak, the experience of goat is softer, slight but still noticeable. Now the main differance is the hair thickness, yak is exceptionally thin. This means when we produce the brush we are able to create a highly dense bristle, this means it is extremely efficient at providing exceptionally good shine. It compresses the wax into a very fine finish. This can ideally be used with artistic cream and waxes, but can be used when you want to remove very thin excess of wax. Thicker application of wax/cream necessitates a horse or boar bristle. PS, density of yak means you have to be slightly more careful when dealing with spitshine, less so compared to horse of course. To sum up, the goat helps to clean up and increase the shine on a finished pair with mirror/spitshine. However the yak is an efficient tool for quick but reliable results when you want to really buff up some areas such as the vamp, facing or quarter of the shoe. And is ideally used with both artistic cream and sublime/spitshine wax. Interesting observation, I have made the yak hair brush with a goat liner around the center yak. This helps to not only keep the bristle in shape, as yak will deform otherwise. But the goat on the edges will help to protect a mirror shine
Dear Arterton London and of course dear Anders too, this was by far the most competent and most informative answer about the question of functions, differences and similarities of the yakhair- and the goathairbrush I have ever get. As I said before, thank you very much for your openness and for sharing your knowledge!
Very impressive.
Thank you!
I wear leather sole Chelsea boots with leather soles. I was taught that when I polished my shoes to polish the sole as well as it helps to water proof.
When it comes to the sole, just polish the sole edge and the sides of your sole. For the sole of your shoes (I mean the part, where you are walking on) use sole oil. Just thin layers of sole oil help to nourish your sole and protect it against bad weather conditions. Just do it once or twice per year and don't flood your sole in sole oil. Otherwise the oil can go through the sole into the upperleather and there you will never get it out again. Wax on your sole on the other hand can be dangerous while walking on slippery grounds. :D Hopefully, that helps you.
are you familiar with archibald london by any chance ?
We can't say we are. Our apologies.
Amazing video 🙏🙏🙏 a wonderful Shining
Thank you for the kind words!
What is the sole edge? The sole edge is the edge of the sole. Thanks!
Indeed!
Well, I wear barefoot shoes, but I find your video interesting.
Make sure you apply the black polish on them.
Thanks for the post. I have been needing to work on my edges and will apply this technique.
Not at all, Mr. Johnson. It's our pleasure. We are glad that this video helped. Anders is a true master!
