Shellharbour Dolphins - BeachFinder Extra September 2024
Dolphins are regular visitors just off our Ocean Pool at Shellharbour. This just happened to be a super-calm and super-clear morning to check them out!

Tallawarra BeachFinder #13 December 2023 Hobie Tandem Island
มุมมอง 1.3K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
A new place to launch on the Western side of Lake Illawarra - the old Tallawarra Power Station (which is being renewed). A short trip south past Duck Creek and towards the mouth of Haywards Bay. Very close to the airport here at Albion Park Rail and was treated to a flyover from the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society located there!
Windang BeachFinder #12 September 2023 Hobie Tandem Island

Under the Windang Bridge into Lake Illawarra and out the entrance to check out Windang Island. I did try and help catch a pelican caught in some fishing line, without much success unfortunately. The wind picked up nicely for sailing!
Sailing Emily BeachFinder Extra September 2023
มุมมอง 413ปีที่แล้ว
BeachFinder returns for the Southern Hemisphere Spring, 2023! In this BeachFinder "extra", there's no Hobie Tandem Island trip. Rather, I had the opportunity to join the Shell Cove Sailing Club aboard "Emily" on a short trip around Bass Point to Killalea, also known as "the Farm" here in Shellharbour. Emily is a "Cuda" class sailing boat, built to last and fun to race. This wasn't a race though...
Bass Point Shellharbour BeachFinder #11 June 2023 Hobie Tandem Island
มุมมอง 970ปีที่แล้ว
The Shellharbour Dolphin took to the Tasman Sea off Bass Point for a leisurely cruise. No beaches, but a whale-watching fail today - they were out there, just too far away for me. South Coast of New South "Whales" Australia. The whale-watching boat trip can be found at shellharbourwild.com.au/ Whale migration info here blog.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/whale-migration-the-facts/
Shellharbour Village "Lane 8" BeachFinder extra May 2023
มุมมอง 147ปีที่แล้ว
No Hobie Tandem Island or Beach in this BeachFinder extra - just a chance to look around the pool area where I swim just about every day. I had a good swim that morning and the water was so clear with lots of marine life, I went in again with the camera. Sure enough, most of the fish had disappeared. Camera-shy. This stretch of water is sometimes called "Lane 8" - the next lane after the 7 in t...
Shellharbour BeachFinder #10 May 2023 Hobie Tandem Island
มุมมอง 857ปีที่แล้ว
This time, my Hobie Tandem Island BeachFinder, "Shellharbour Dolphin" is at home. Here's a chance to look at the brand new Shellharbour Marina at Shell Cove, along with glimpses of Shellharbour Village and the ocean pool and the nearby rock-shelf where I swim regularly. South coast of New South Wales Australia. Warning a tiny bit of my blood towards the end. Just another sailing injury...
Hobie Tandem Island Review
มุมมอง 23Kปีที่แล้ว
I've owned my Hobie Tandem island "Shellharbour Dolphin" now for nearly two years. In that time, I've appreciated review videos and tips and tricks on this platform, so I thought I would share my short review of this great boat, or .... kayak (not sure what to call it). Hope you like it and add some thoughts or suggestions in the comments and follow my other brief sailing stories on this channe...

My Hobie Tandem Island BeachFinder, "Shellharbour Dolphin", had a sail around Shoalhaven Heads, where the Shoalhaven River meets the Ocean -south coast of New South Wales Australia.

Across Jervis Bay BeachFinder #5 November 2022 Hobie Tandem Island
มุมมอง 294ปีที่แล้ว
My Hobie Tandem Island, "Shellharbour Dolphin" takes me on a slow sail across Jervis Bay - worth it to find an idyllic little swimming spot. This was quite by accident - I was aiming for a long beach, but found this little bay instead. Jervis Bay is on the South Coast of New South Wales Australia.
Swan Lake BeachFinder #4 November 2022 Hobie Tandem Island
มุมมอง 599ปีที่แล้ว
Well, it may be somewhat surprising to find that I couldn't see any swans whatsoever on Swan Lake, near Sussex Inlet on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Had some nice sailing wind on the way back, I didn't even need my little motor at all! On my Hobie Tandem Island, named "Shellharbour Dolphin".
Lake Conjola BeachFinder #3 October 2022 Hobie Tandem Island
มุมมอง 209ปีที่แล้ว
Lake Conjola is just north of Ulladulla on the south Coast of New South Wales Australia. I tried solo-sailing my Hobie Tandem Island and went looking for an isolated spot to relax. Not much wind on the day, and low tide caused some problems.

    Great channel, mate! Appreciate your straightforward delivery andtop notch production quality. I'm thinking of getting one of these and it is great to see the real world details and tricks in actual use, such as needing a paddle in shallow water and putting foam in the mast hole to keep the balls in place when trailering. Enjoying your adventure videos where I saw that paddle detail. Subscribed! Please keep up the good work and keep ahead of the sharks!

    Looked like a great time. I notice you sail yours from the front seat. I always sail mine from the back seat. Curious as to your reason? Do you find an advantage by doing that?

  • @Hobie2fly

    I can see your dolly have crack,it happend because TI is heavy and that pipe on bottom is flexible more than plastic on top.So plastic are cracking.To stop crack cary on, put little hole on each end of crack.On my it help to stoped it.Another thing I can see is your cover.If you use it when traveling and if you have diesel car , fumes from car go under cover and stick to kayak and I can tell you it was hard to clean it off.I did not hear that petrol car have same problem. One more advice,when you tide up TI on trailer be wery careful , when you over tighten it , that capers holes on front of each place can crack and it is very hard to repair that.Good luck with thatJaroslav

    A very versatile craft. You can do so many things with it. I own sailboats that'll do over 40 knots but if I could only have one boat, it'd be the Hobie Island.

    It's a kayak! I use mine without outriggers often and is very stable. (2014 model with low seat). Agree no need to modify these as they work great for sailing as is. cheers

    Hi, I just bought a TI in Brisbane. I've enjoyed moreton bay a bit and was looking at the bixpy as an alternative to pedalling. How do you find it? Do you think it would be useful in 'open waters'?

    Hey mate. Ex Maroochydore boy now living in Toowoomba. I"m just researching hobie AI or TI to buy 2nd hand. Are you worried about sourcing parts if they are no longer making these? Just interested in your thoughts.

    Thank you for the review. I'm undecided between something like this or an inflatable sailing catamaran, like a Minicat. Can you sit on the trampolines that connect to the amas or are they just for baggage?

    • @craignealon3978
      @craignealon3978 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The tramps are OK to sit on. Maybe not so comfortable or easy to control the kayak though.

    How does the Bixpy perform on the Tandem Island? I've been thinking about purchasing one for my own but haven't heard of how they work on a heavier kayak.

    • @craignealon3978
      @craignealon3978 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not great to be honest. I should do a review of that! It pushes it along OK, but very slowly. It's actually quite relaxing to cruise around in still water however. Other things like battery life are quite good.

    Great review. I always angle my vantage seat forward and put the front part in first. And while pushing down on it I click in the back. Works most of the time and never pops out, but I do understand your frustration.

    • @craignealon3978
      @craignealon3978 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this works for me: set the seat in place, lift the back maybe 6 inches while pressing the front of the seat down. It clicks into place every time on my 2023 TI. Oh, and don't forget to secure the rear clip!

      I have one that's about 3 metres long James. Post-edit can give the effect of being much taller however. Mostly I don't use it anywhere near as long. I don't know Fahrenheit too well, but that sounds like you're close to ice-sailing? :) I can't even comprehend that...
