How to Crochet the French Rosette Blanket Part 3 Assembly Border and Edging
Finishing the French Rosette baby blanket is quite easy to do but I’ve included some finishing techniques in this video so that your blanket will be absolutely perfect!
Start by laying the large motif in the center. Then add the flower motifs to the corners so that the plain corners point to the center. Lastly place the rectangles to fill in along the side edges. The rightsides of all the motifs should face up. If you look carefully there are 2 horizontal and 2 vertical seams.
Let’s start with the horizontal seams and then move on to the vertical seams. As you join the various motifs, I share techniques that make the job oh so simple!
Once the motifs are joined, it's time to add the border rounds. All rounds of both the wide and narrow borders are worked with the right side facing you.
The wide border consists of 4 border rounds plus the edging round. I like this one in particular because one last pinstripe frames the entire blanket.
The narrow border is handy when you do not want more inches added. It consists of 2 border rounds (Rounds 1 and 2) and then jumps right into the last edging round.
The edging round is my own invention. It features reverse-hdc stitches which creates a gorgeous rolled/braided edge!
Key moments:

      @carmendriggs1965 - I just started a project yesterday and had the same confusion. When I used multiples of 19 plus 19, I had one extra chain left over. I wound up using a starting chain of multiples of 19 + 18. To make 10 peaks, I chained 9 multiples of 19 plus 18. So, (9x19)+18=189...and that worked out perfectly for me. (BTW, 10 peaks with an H hook and worsted weight yarn turned out to be about 36" wide, in case that info is useful to anyone.)

    • @carmendriggs1965
      @carmendriggs1965 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes I am working on a practice piece and it is becoming a lot easier to identify the stitches. I want to make a queen sized blanket using this pattern. Can you tell me how any chains I need to do for my foundation? A queen size bed is 80” L x 60” W but I would like a drape of about 6” on each side.

    • @bettibjorken6266
      @bettibjorken6266 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@carmendriggs1965 in case it helps you estimate, I just started a baby afghan using this Moss Stitch Ripple pattern (using multiples of 19). I am using worsted weight yarn with an H hook. 10 peaks makes my afghan about 36 inches wide. The formula I used for 10 peaks was 9 multiples of 19 plus 18, or 189 starting chains. It looks like you want a bed cover that is double the width of mine, so plan on at least 20 peaks, maybe even 22 to account for the curve of the drape over the side edges of the bed. If my math is correct, for 22 peaks, I'd try 21 multiples of 19 plus 18. (Honestly, the multiples of 19+19 always leaves me with an extra chain). So for 22 peaks, I would chain (21x19)+18=417. And however you figure it, if you do wind up with any extra starting chains, you can just pick them out. BTW, I LOVE THIS PATTERN AND THE VIDEO WAS A GREAT HELP!!!!

    Have you found any solution to the holes in the first row where you skip a chain?

    • @TwistedYarns
      @TwistedYarns หลายเดือนก่อน

      The holes created by skipping the chains is part of the Moss stitch pattern. They are supposed to be there just like every row of the Moss stitch. However if you do not want them on the edge row then I would suggest working a row of sc for the first row but making sure to work the peak and valleys too. If you object to the hole at the tip of the valley, simply pull up a loop in all 4 chains at the tip then yo and pull thru all 5 loops on hook. The hole at the peak is needed as is. But only do this on the very 1st row. To make the last row match, at the points of the peaks work 4 sc to fill in.

    Oh what a great tutorial! My chevron stripe blanket had a tight chain row and was curving. I didn't want to frog it all because I weaved in the ends already and didn't think that would be fun to undo! I cut the chain, slipped the yarn out, and slipped stitched my way across. I was a little worried because I had double crochet clusters to deal with, but I managed to find the tops of each dc and it worked out beautifully. I used a larger hook size than what I used with the rest of the blanket, too. I am tickled how it turned out, and I thank you so much! 🥰😘

    • @TwistedYarns
      @TwistedYarns หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the decrease is not centered on the side, the suspect is that you started on a side with an odd number of spaces. Count the spaces on the side from corner to corner (include the corner spaces) If there is an even number of spaces, find the center 2 spaces and your decrease will be centered. If there is an odd number of spaces, the decrease will not be centered. If you follow the companion pattern it explains more about sizing. • @TwistedYarns
      @TwistedYarns หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it probably does. If your turn is right in the center it may interfere with the decrease. You can work the decrease as close to the center as possible. The following round will even it out.

    • @TwistedYarns
      @TwistedYarns หลายเดือนก่อน

      Another way to approach the centering issue. Is this: after you slip st to join on the last row before the decrease and not changing colors. Slip st over a few more sts so you are aligned with a space that is not close to the center. Then turn and you should be able to center the decrease. Let me know how it goes. Thank you for sharing your memories with me. I personally love crocheting flowers! Having lived in northern Illinois for the majority of my life, winters can be brutal and I certainly loved the flowers blooming in the spring. Where can I find a stopper plate!

      I purchased mine from Kriskrafter.com. They are sized for the specific machine. 6.5 mm, 9 mm. You can also find standard bed (4.5 mm) as part of the garterbar set on eBay or similar sites.

      I got mine from Kriskrafter.com for 6.5 and 9mm. Standard 4.5 are available from eBay or sold by other knitters.

    Thank you for this great video! I have one question after the last demo, ending a round and continuing with the same colour - what do you work in the corner when you end the next row, if you are just continuing with that same colour? I tried a round on my own, but now I'm slip stitching in the stitch before the corner so i think I've missed something since it wasn't part of the video. Would love dome help thanks!

      Great question. I cover that in a different video. Watch How to Crochet the Moss stitch rectangle with self-striping yarn. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/NGdEZEskVeE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=N9LWbgC6RsP0RZvE
