Hello - I'm trying to demonstrate ways to add to lead playing to a song that doesn't have a solo. I think this is a great way to learn your way around the fret board and work on improvisation skills. Not every idea will work, but that's okay, because some will sound great!

Let's strum through a couple progressions using four chords. - In the key of G Major: G(I) am(ii) bm(iii) C(IV) D(V) em(vi) F(VII) - First Progression: I V vi IV - Second Progression: ii V I vi

I think this is a great song to practice picking technique, chord transitions and learning minor barre chords with root on 5th string. This is the intro and, I believe, part of the verse. We'll keep adding on as much as we can. Full chords used: C - Cm - G I hope this helps!

Power chord application! One caveat: you may find different chords if you search this song online. He apparently uses a capo. These chords will get you playing along to the record without a capo. Try to relate this to our classroom lesson on a simple 12 bar blues progression and intro to the minor pentatonic scale. Remember: you don't need to play the full chord shape. Practice session covering various techniques we've discussed. *I have not "proofread" this, so I apologize if it's a little rough.

Also known as 'boom - chick', this is common technique in lots of country songs. It's also a good exercise to help develop picking technique and timing. Get comfortable with this and then will add in the rest of the chord and a different strumming/counting pattern.

Let's start working on finger picking, alternating bass, bends and a different strum pattern. Yes, that's a lot, but let's get after it!
