Science in 5 Episode 2: What is the Warburg Effect?
มุมมอง 1324 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Warburg effect is a metabolic hallmark of all cancer cells, characterized by increased glucose uptake to produce lactate instead of CO2, H2O and ATP in normal cells, making cellular respiration in cancer cells a bit of a conundrum. The generation of lactate seems like a waste of carbon source and energy that could be otherwise diverted for cell proliferation. One possible explanation for th...

Science in 5 Episode 1: What are Chromosome Translocations?
มุมมอง 327ปีที่แล้ว
The traditional approach to treating cancer has been responsive. Once a patient is diagnosed, the fight is on, and it’s all hands on deck. It isn’t uncommon for a patient to be treating their cancer with up to three different modalities, and that can be time-consuming and physically and mentally taxing on the patient. And while cancer care has come an astoundingly long way in just the past cent...
Celebrating 20+ Years of Cyberknife Technology
มุมมอง 43ปีที่แล้ว
The CyberKnife system is a noninvasive, robotic delivery system for radiation therapy that treats some cancerous and noncancerous tumors and other conditions. CyberKnife delivers precise pulses of high-dose radiation that target certain tumors and other abnormal tissues, while limiting exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. Stanford neurosurgeons invented CyberKnife, revolutionizing cancer ca...
