I am really impressed at how well it drove in the video. I wasn't expecting that. Whoever is maintaining that car is doing a great job.

Thanks for posting. I've never driven a Packard, but your video gives the impression than the steering is both accurate and light. I think the company had a Canadian assembly plant which supplied RHD models to the U.K. During WW2, the secret military radio interception boffins decided that they needed a fleet of hefty, reliable cars. So, they went to Lendrum & Hartmann in London, and bought their entire stock....of Packards.😎

A great drive. Can you do a video showing the exterior and under the bonnet? I had a 52 XK120M FHC... Sadly I had to sell it to get money to build my two wonderful daughters new bedrooms in our log cabin. But at least I have a diecast model of it on my desk... That and your wonderful videos helps to fill my yearning for yesteryear! Thanks! Will check your web site.

The 1.6L was the correct choice. It's a little rev-ier that the 1.8L and the power-to-weight ratio is excellent with 1,800lb. Spit.

And then you say the 1.8 would be scary? What about all the Spitfires out there with a 2-Litre straight 6 engine from the GT6, or the 2.5 from the TR6. They are perfectly drivable!

I've never heard so much tosh! A well maintained Spitfire with original engine is NOT a headache, AND it should start on the button. I don't deny that the Miata power train is a good swap, but honestly, if your experience with the original drive train is that negative, you've never had a Spitfire that has been correctly maintained or cared for!

The Persuaders watch all episodes the dbs was strait six pot rather than the v8 which would not run very well on sets for filming because of short runs

Be aware the weight of the Miata engine is less therefore the weight on the front wheels is less therefore the the Spitfire pushes into corners and you lose traction not a Panacea

Considering that car journalists really didn't pay attention to this final model year SL, I'd say this is one of the best R231 reviews out there. If I had bucks to spend, it'd be for one of these.

I had a Mk3 Spitfire. Nice job but I hope the suspension and brakes were uprated, as they weren't designed for this.

Beautiful car. Never saw a counter-clockwise tach before.

It is a little “hard” on the transmission to “hammer” it in first gear. Also, all XK jaguars are 12 volt. They had two 6 volt batteries wired in series to provide 12 volts. They will work with one 12 volt battery but the two 6 volt will give more cranking amps.
