BMSWR: I Build My Skin With Rocks by Sandra Mujinga, 2022
installation at Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin in Jan 2023
The central figure of the work is a fantastic hybrid being, whose appearance is informed by Mujinga’s interest in the world-building techniques of science fiction as well as research into the survival strategies of animals, including both physical mutations and changes in behaviour that seek to offer protection against an increasingly threatening human presence in their habitats.

EVERY ILLUSION from BEYOND BELIEF: FACT OR FICTION
มุมมอง 547K4 ปีที่แล้ว
please enjoy this supercut featuring every optical illusion from the under-rated television show BEYOND BELIEF: FACT OR FICTION. the beginning of each episode featured an optical illusion presented by hosts James Brolin (s1) and Jonathan Frakes (s2-4). while the illusions vary in their level of amazement, watching Jonathan Frakes perform them is always beyond belief!

I always love to watch Beyond Belief Fact or Fiction
Super
He keeps saying it is our perception, but it is down to his presentation. This is a great example of how humans can easily be manipulated.
My fastest marathon of a tv series ❕
oh mah gawd! my perception of reality is distorted!! HOW DARE YOU!!!!
Brolin tried but Frakes really embodies the 90s vibe from the show
NCC-1701-D
I remember laughing my ass off at the upside down face illusion 14:12 - it's still hilarious.
4:08 Except they're not exactly the same length as the corners are further than the wedges. 8:38 Now it appears that one face is spitting into the mouth of the other😄
I think it's Scott Kim who did the false/true and ambiguity visuals. He used to contribute to Scientific American and Games.
This is beyond fun
Sound like Jonathan had some sour grapes about the Nielsen ratings
He doesn’t explain the Penrose triangle, impossible cube, Einstein mask or hollowed-out ambulance correctly at all…
Diet Orson Welles.
Me: 12...B...14 😐
6:50 OMFG legend!
In the illusion of the boxes he says “The truth is there are two boxes but our eyes won’t permit us to see both at once.” This isn’t true. There are zero boxes on the paper. A box is a 3D object, and the paper is 2D. There are two 2D representations of two 3D objects that are drawn from different perspectives, it is impossible to see both at the same time because only one exists as a 3D object on each plane.
observe: here, is drawing of a circle on a piece of paper. But turning the piece of paper 180 degrees on its y axis, reveals that the circle is, in fact, a straight line. So, which is truth and what is a lie? Perspective is only a matter of perception. Change you perspective to change your perception.
Ambigwty
Hey dude, how’s life going?
Zzzzzzz
17 minutes of a man being confused about how things happen
"your not just a clown. your an entire circus" - miles edgeworth
Man the way he switched those tablecloths to a smaller one for that smaller table was some incredible sleight of hand.
I really enjoyed this installation. A black man fighting an imaginary enemy is such a powerful commentary on racial identity politics, and an Asian man being beaten a person who's identity has been scrubbed from sight is a similarly powerful commentary on the media's portrayal of the perpetrators of Asian hate. Truly powerful stuff.
i grew up on this show
That picture of frakes with the upside down smile gave me nightmares as a kid
NO DO NOT FOLLOW THE CLOWN!!! THEY ALL FLOAT!
If 'Dad jokes' were illusions
I’ll never get that time back that’s for sure!
4:50 his name is Saggy Sammy
2:50 so I guess this is what they mean when they say “you’re not a clown, you’re the entire circus”
Some of these are deceptive because of the lighting of the show, not because of the optical examples themselves.
Blind person: I don't get any of this.
I love that he says it’s a carving of a rabbit, but when he moves it, it makes a very audible thump of hollow plastic
7:19 makes me feel so wild and dangerous, 7:42 blew my mind, 9:57 has my fav quote?! That final end quote has to be second fav. It def gets old near the end in this vid because they repeat the same point over and over and in a compilation video
Lame
That fucking smile after the Nielsen Family line
6:42 - I'm dying laughing at this.
This show is the gift that keeps on giving
Frakes seems so happy to explain each illusion it's very charming and funny
I'd be happy too if all I had to do was show some optical illusions for a fat paycheck.
Leslie Nielsen really hit hard times
4:33 That is literally just an upside-down cake.
i feel like a lot of these were way more effective before the internet lol
That "Ambiguity" is also a stylized palindrome by art.
5:31 But... that's the cube I saw anyway?
I hope when I die I wake up in a warm library study with antique upholstery, and Johnathan Frakes is waiting for me there with a smug grin on his face and tells me "You probably thought you lived a full life and died. You're wrong. Our perceptions can deceive us." And the CRT TV of my childhood turns off and my mom brings out cookies and milk.
Why's he want me to take all that stuff?
Shitposts before shitposts. Way ahead of its time.
I always tell this to my gf its perception and illusion
