Its been two years of sailing since I left Mallorca and I cant help feeling that there is something especially spiritual and very deep going on.
This channel of Sailing Adventures with Grandad, started after our long Covid battle. I departed Palma de Mallorca with my grandson Ishi, his dad my son Peter and Javi my trusted saling companion, when he can. We went East around Sicily, across the Ionian, transiting the Corinth Canal and then solo sailed the Cyclades. Discovering how lonely I felt sailing on my own so I now sail with frinds or family. On this final chapter # 24 I was joined by my grandson Saxon and for the first 10 days Javi. With no parents. It was fun and memorable for me to get to know Saxon. This story is about playing, sharing, laughing and learning. The playing was mostly Javi, the laughing and sharing was all of us and the learning I think was all of us as well. Saxon however also learned about being a mate on a boat and about how to do so many things. Fast learner, willing and fun companion and leaving me with a memory I will have for the rest of my days.
SAILING ADVENTURES WITH GRANDAD, these 24 episodes are my amateur creations of my travels and experiences on Vayu my 44 ft X-yacht Vayu. The people I travel with, from Mallorca to Greece, the exploration of the Pennepoles and the Cyclades and my reflections on living this adventure.
Thanks for allowing this amateur to share these little stories that require an imense effort. Your appreciation means a lot to me.
A lifetime sailor, practicing yogi, father of 4, grandad of 7, amateur chef, partner to a wonderful woman and thankful man. I live between Palma de Mallorca, Vayu my sailboat and Los Cabos Mexico.

Why have you not got more subscribers Michael ? Love your videos. I have been getting my Bavaria 36 ready to set sail to the Mediterranean from UK next June. Plan to bring it down coast of France round to Spain and up via Majorca onto Italy and Greece. So can’t wait and at 56 YO I am ready to start exploring by sail boat ⛵️ with my wife and daughters joining in between school.

Hi Michael Just found your adventure sailing Vayo. Im a norwegian guy living in Sweden with my wife and 2 boys. Im 58 now and did allot of sailing in my 20ies. Im about 10 years we will sail to Greece and be there for some years. Our adventure😅 Worked in greece in the 80s. Know it pretty well. Started in Loutraki and thats a place i recomend visiting. Also see the monastary in the mountain looking over Loutraki and Korinth. Looking forward to follow you and Vayo. Best regards Bjoern 😊

How do you like the dinghy
Hi, I just saw your question. The dingy has pros and cons. On the plus side is that she is durable and puncture proof and am amazing row boat. On the con side is that she is tipsy and for guests it is at times dicey. Im thinking of a hard bottom inflatable but haven’t decided yet. I do like rowing her when Im on my own but with others I use the electric outboard and it’s great. Thanks for the question and sorry I was so slow in responding.

I find myself questioning time and time again whether to go to Greece and appreciate your suggestion to sail outside of the peak months of July and August but where do you leave your boat in the middle of high season? +@eelcostoffels Hello Eelco! This year as last I use Porto Heli Marina as a base and do sail in the high season but not the so much the islands , due to the Meltemi and heat. I stay more along the coast of the Penepolese. The heat is a challenge and I’m not at all sure about next season. Good sailing and thanks for your interest 🙏

+@jacooosthuizen1886 Hello Jaco! Good to meet you. I use predict wind which is by subscription and my main go to. Then I also peruse others just to check like Meteo Blue. The local Greek forecasts I hear are also very good and free but I haven’t used them.

Marina fees can be insane eg 100 euros a night in Hvar Croatia. Do they come alongside in a little boat and offer food water and diesel like they do in Turkey??. That way you dont need Marina so often...

Yes you are correct about the canal itself, but the origins of Corinth, the overland route before the canal go back millenniums as it was an overland trading passage & Corinth a major trading center for the Ancient Greeks and Romans.

It had to be the meltemi I was a charter skipper there for a few years. I met the melted many times, for cruisers I always.s say start in the North of Greece, and sail south over the summer,
