Hello my lovely Congolese people, I like your comments specially your brother with red stripes shirt, but I will like to correct your brother Christian, I am from Kinshasa, we don’t see ourselves like we are the only Congolese first, Congo is all that big country. Lingala is like Swahili like Kikongo or Tsiluba, all are our national languages; like you guys you’re Bashi, you have your own language beside Swahili. In Kinshasa we have everybody, like me my mom is from Bandundu and my dad is from Équateur; we speak lingala in Kinshasa like you guys speak Swahili because you are born in Bukavu. I have cousins born in Bukavu react the way than Christian, I am in America like you guys, but the way he said that lingala is the language of the thieves, I think he doesn’t know the story of Congo, he should learn more about that big country

@14 min, Most Swahili Congolese don't speak Lingala. There is, also, a stereotype: this stereotype came to existence in the Swahili speaking regions of Congo/Zaïre because of the indiscipline in the Mobutu's army, since at that time lingala was the only official language of the army. Unfortunately, many soldiers were using the aggressiveness of lingala to intimidate, steal, and rob the Swahili speaking Congolese. Also, in these areas, especially in Kivu, most of thieves and robbers were speaking lingala. This is how most people came to associate Lingala as the language of, not only, the army; but also of thieves, less serious persons, and of ambianceurs. I can, even, narrate alot of annecdotes about this. Myself when I was a teenager in S. Kivu, I started learning some lingala through the songs, but as soon as I was heard starting to speak abit, I was advised to stop because of the reflection that lingala was giving to people. So, understand that It's an observational thing for many Congolese of Swahili speaking provinces. PEACE OUT!
