    Thanks a lot for the video! In the heeling process of my knee injury I am looking for exercises to prevent injury in bjj in the future. In an other video, I also some one leg squats for building up knee strenghth and stability. What to you think about these? Regards, Peter

    what happened to the hip rotations on all fours? we used to do them every time at GB Ventura when it was GB, now I can't even find a video with a real BJJ class doing them... some people call them the "quadruped knee circles"... we did circles backward and forwards and then knee bent lifts and leg straight back lifts... looking for a video to show someone.

    I am 61 years old. I started at 58 and have lost time due to multiple injuries that put me out for weeks at a time. I saw the guys I started with promote well ahead of me and it was mildly discouraging. I earned my 4th stripe 6 months ago and never quite felt as....dominant.....as I should have when rolling with new guys. I still feel that way now and I still feel like (know) that I totally suck. But, apparently, I suck less. That's what the OG's tell me. I had my first class as a blue belt last night and got absolutely DESTROYED by everyone I rolled with. Granted, these were a black belt, 3 purple belts and a 4 stripe blue belt, but I still did not even feel competitive. It was VERY discouraging. I think my biggest problem is "imposter syndrome." I roll with higher belts CONSTANTLY and rarely get advantageous positions, let alone the occasional (super rare) submissions. Now that I am a blue belt, I still feel like the worst guy on the mat. Last night did not help that insecurity. I try to give myself a break because I realize most of these guys are 25-40 years younger than me and it's kind of a miracle that I'm even on the mats. However, I still see the world through my "Young Man's Eyes." Hopefully, resilience, practice and continuing to "show up" will help my game. Its all I think about. I train 3-4 days a week (not counting the weight room at the gym) and still get crushed on nearly every roll. I'll never quit though.

  • @gantorisdurran710
    @gantorisdurran710 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I am a recent blue belt and I have had alot of imposter syndrome, it helped me alot to go and do some open mat at a different gym. I performed at the level I should have, good rolls vs other blues, dominant to white belts, a challenge for purples and getting smashed by the browns and blacks. This experience helped me to accept that maybe I am a blue belt atferall.

    This is why I don't go to places like this, because he tells the new people, find a place, copy, do what you can do. They don't pay any attention to the new people, they pay attention to and give attention to the so called higher ranks. I would have left this place the minute that guy said that nonsense to the new people. This is why so many people quit bjj!! It's stupid to wear yourself out even before the class gets started, doing all of these dumb exercises, this is the crap that gets people hurt, then a person is already fatigued and then attempts some random techniques that are being shown and they get hurt. I absolutely hate these schools.

    • @ThatKenpoGuy
      @ThatKenpoGuy 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly I have had a much better experience at GB than at other BJJ schools. If GB Roundhay Leeds is the same as my GB school, they pull the line for technique work where the most experienced students pairs up the newest student. At the other school I went to, you just grabbed the closest dude and all the experienced folks teamed up together because they knew each other. I have received much more attention from the instructor at GB. At the more "traditional" school, it seemed you had to "prove yourself" before you'd get attention. The warm up is awesome too, at my old school we'd go straight into sparring with no warm up other than if you warmed up before class. I saw many injuries and taking 6 minutes to loosen up is fantastic.
