Thanks a lot for the video! In the heeling process of my knee injury I am looking for exercises to prevent injury in bjj in the future. In an other video, I also some one leg squats for building up knee strenghth and stability. What to you think about these? Regards, Peter
what happened to the hip rotations on all fours? we used to do them every time at GB Ventura when it was GB, now I can't even find a video with a real BJJ class doing them... some people call them the "quadruped knee circles"... we did circles backward and forwards and then knee bent lifts and leg straight back lifts... looking for a video to show someone.
this clip, and believeme i sooooo can relay to it ( was promoted Blue June 6th 2024 at 50) and you are the first who does'nt tell to focus on this or that but instead on our personal shit. Oss , respect and you got a new sub.
This is wild, I used to train with Rich way back in London in 2007 down in Wimbledon. Amazing to see how he's stayed the course. Top man.
I am 61 years old. I started at 58 and have lost time due to multiple injuries that put me out for weeks at a time. I saw the guys I started with promote well ahead of me and it was mildly discouraging. I earned my 4th stripe 6 months ago and never quite felt as....dominant.....as I should have when rolling with new guys. I still feel that way now and I still feel like (know) that I totally suck. But, apparently, I suck less. That's what the OG's tell me. I had my first class as a blue belt last night and got absolutely DESTROYED by everyone I rolled with. Granted, these were a black belt, 3 purple belts and a 4 stripe blue belt, but I still did not even feel competitive. It was VERY discouraging. I think my biggest problem is "imposter syndrome." I roll with higher belts CONSTANTLY and rarely get advantageous positions, let alone the occasional (super rare) submissions. Now that I am a blue belt, I still feel like the worst guy on the mat. Last night did not help that insecurity. I try to give myself a break because I realize most of these guys are 25-40 years younger than me and it's kind of a miracle that I'm even on the mats. However, I still see the world through my "Young Man's Eyes." Hopefully, resilience, practice and continuing to "show up" will help my game. Its all I think about. I train 3-4 days a week (not counting the weight room at the gym) and still get crushed on nearly every roll. I'll never quit though.
I am a recent blue belt and I have had alot of imposter syndrome, it helped me alot to go and do some open mat at a different gym. I performed at the level I should have, good rolls vs other blues, dominant to white belts, a challenge for purples and getting smashed by the browns and blacks. This experience helped me to accept that maybe I am a blue belt atferall.
A lot of these people in the comments couldn’t handle judo warm ups if they think this is a problem 😂
THAK YOU MAN
What’s your thoughts on lots of well known Gracie Barra schools leaving Gracie Barra? Overpriced affiliation fees or something else ? It would be an interesting discussion 👍
Thank you professor.
I'm participating because when I've been asked to do the warm up, I can't remember the sequence and I live in Benidorm, so it has to be done in Spanish as well. This is so useful for me!
Fantastic looking new timetable! Going to work really well for us and hopefully Sophie will be on the mats soon to complete the family training
Great episode, really enjoyed
This is just the beginning of the warmup 😂 try going to a warmup in Chandler or Scottsdale with Flavio Almeida and his wife Vivi. I was one if the first students in Chandler. Professor Piu kicked my butt everyday. They do not play around. I LOVE GRACIE BARRA! 🤙🏼 hoping this location is able to expand so they can do a full warmup
That my forte.
Beautifully explained why angles are so important in BJJ
how many classes does it take to get a stripe?
This is a Baratoplata.
Before my arms and legs get ripped apart i just verbally tell them to stop 😂
Very good
Great tips! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Good to have the podcast back in business
Moo 🤍
Oss!
NO PURPLE BELTS WERE HARMED IN THIS WARMUP.
5 sets of goof off until failure in the parking lot. whose with me!?
5.0
This is great advice, I'll try to keep it in mind. I have my first class as a blue belt tomorrow and I'm ready to get proudly destroyed by higher belts and violently attacked by lower belts 😂
Great insight, thanks for sharing. 🙂
Jumping jacks and static stretches. Barf.
What's so wrong
@@bulkyturnip neither of these have applications to BJJ
This is why I don't go to places like this, because he tells the new people, find a place, copy, do what you can do. They don't pay any attention to the new people, they pay attention to and give attention to the so called higher ranks. I would have left this place the minute that guy said that nonsense to the new people. This is why so many people quit bjj!! It's stupid to wear yourself out even before the class gets started, doing all of these dumb exercises, this is the crap that gets people hurt, then a person is already fatigued and then attempts some random techniques that are being shown and they get hurt. I absolutely hate these schools.
Dude, you're just wrong... 😂
I agree, GB is one of the most structured Jiu Jitsu schools you can attend. If you can’t do these warmup, take up bingo lmao
Honestly I have had a much better experience at GB than at other BJJ schools. If GB Roundhay Leeds is the same as my GB school, they pull the line for technique work where the most experienced students pairs up the newest student. At the other school I went to, you just grabbed the closest dude and all the experienced folks teamed up together because they knew each other. I have received much more attention from the instructor at GB. At the more "traditional" school, it seemed you had to "prove yourself" before you'd get attention. The warm up is awesome too, at my old school we'd go straight into sparring with no warm up other than if you warmed up before class. I saw many injuries and taking 6 minutes to loosen up is fantastic.
If this warm up seems that daunting the problem may be you.
@@ThatKenpoGuystatic stretching doesn’t do anything better to stretch after
OSS 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I wish I had this problem already. But yet, I'm still just a lowly white belt.
Not a waste of time at all.
As someone who did similar warmups to this for years it 100% is a huge waste of time.
@@DS-te9nm It was sarcasm.
I think its cool that the instructor does the warmups with the students, but it seems more like a workout than a warm up. It's a bit ridiculous in my opinion, although I do find this funny.
I agree,no need for calesthenics unrelated to BJJ to warm up. Warm up with drills!
@@MNaeem5 exactly, perhaps allow a few minutes for the class to self stretch. I'm not in my 20's anymore and lord knows I need to stretch my hamstrings and calves well before doing anything strenuous or I'll pay for it for the rest of the week.
@@andrewc3180 just a gradual increase in drill speed can do it. Or just a steady speed with few breaks done for time. Not jumping jacks!
Great to hear the plans, looking forward to more mornings and more live training
Half the class would be over.
I can comfirm you are correct
awesome warm up!
This was a great watch. The collective transparency was very heartwarming. Grateful to all of you.
Can u do a video moving down the mats like this? I can never get it into my head
What a ridiculous warm up. Just flow roll people.
You do realize most people can't "flow roll" until around mid blue belt right? Sure it starts off light then it quickly progressed to an ADCC death match. WTF is with this new lazy bitch trend of not warming up?
Warm up is better than no warm-up at all
😂😂😂😂
Não fale isso mortal !!!
You are a 🕳️ you wouldnt take a wrestle session!!😂
Not my cup of tea, but I like how you guys do the shrimps
I'm in that vid
Thank you! I needed that! I got my blue belt and moved away soon after. Just got into my new school and I feel like I started over. Thank you!
This was fun.
When a lil 5'7 150lb guy turns stance on you... 😂 Should probably go record somewhere else before you end up wedged in your own video 😂
Excelente, professor 🥋 Douglas! O senhor nos inspira 💕 por ser um grande profissional de um coração enorme.
Very nice guy
Great podcast, and cant agree more about having Sophie as one of the coaches for the girls to look up to.
