    Nice video! I like the bike shorts cleaning tip :P. Which time of the year did you do this trip? Did you plan ahead of time where you will stop? Did you stealth camp most of the way? I am planing a 4 or 6 week trip around Southern Ontario for September to mid-October. My main concern is where to sleep each night. I have some touring experience but not much camping experience. I am worried that camping at parks will get expensive since most are about $40-50 a night.

    I completely understand that paying full price at a national park campground on a bike tour is way too much but I pay it because I use the parks lots and I know my money is going towards maintaining them. Thankfully, Parks Canada is finally starting to cater to the bicycle touring community, especially along the increasingly popular Icefields Parkway but it does take time and money. My niece and I rode Hinton to Canmore this past summer(2021) and two of the campgrounds (Honeymoon Lake and Jonas) now have self-supported cycling sites for just $5! A great compromise in my opinion! I'm finishing up that series still but I think the second and third episodes have those sites in them if anyone want to have a look! They're kind of a shared space situation but I think that's great and love meeting people on tour!

    I have been binging various cross Canada bike adventures and I am pretty inspired to do something. I turn 60 in Jan 2022. So I am thing Calgary to Victoria might be a good first go. I would love to do coast to coast, the hardest part is scheduling. I couldn't see it taking less than 3 months. I would not want to speed through it, I want to stop and see the sights. I have done Calgary to Alymer Ontario 3 times by motorcycle and have seen some wonderful views and slow rolling on a bicycle would be pretty cool. - Cheers

      go for it! cycling across canada is an amazing experience! one thing that i do regret is not taking my time so definetly plan for your trip to last a bit longer just so you feel no preasure in rushing it:) and if you do coast to coast 3 months is a very good estimated time if not even 4 months if you are taking it a bit slower

    Nice video! Just an info for (maybe) next time. Fires actually scare animals away because of their smell. It's a good way to not ever see a bear. Also, when you see one, you should always let him kmow you're there by talking loud. Bears don't want anything to do with humans unless it's early spring and they have cubs with them or if you surprise them. Otherwise they'll just leave and go as far away from you as they can! ;)

    Hey man, I heard that it's illegal to ride a bike on the highway or even shoulder of highway in Canada so how do you do it exactly? Any tip would be much appreciated.

    • @cyclingwithliam1734
      @cyclingwithliam1734 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends of highways, most of the ones i took( trans canadian highway ) your are allowed. Its really just the express highways that you are not allowed to bike or hitchhike on, other than that most of them you are allowed. Quick trick, just type in on maps where you want to go and it will show you the route to take and it would not show you a route where it would be illegal to bike on.

    How did you store your food and garbage at night in bear country Liam? The trees in the rockys don't have much of a branch like trees in the east or prairies do. Also, how do you shop for food without having your bike and belongings stolen? Amazing work btw <3

    • @cyclingwithliam1734
      @cyclingwithliam1734 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a bear barrel that I kept strapped on the top part on my front bike rack. My food was in there all the time and when I got to a camp spot or before going to bed I would put the barrel with the food in it 100 feet away from my camp spot. I never put it in trees, if a bear try's to open it it will eventually give up and go away. I never had any problems with that. And thanks!

I would leave my bike in front of the windows of stores so i could keep an eye on it while shopping. If you dont want to take any chances you can get really small cable locks that lock your bags to your bike. I would always carry a weeks worth of food on me, sometimes lessor more depending on how far the next town was.

    Nice video! But why do you bother to ride that narrow shoulder on roads where there is so little traffic? If we as cyclists keep on doing that, we never gain the motorists respect for being a legitimate participant of traffic. Trust your ears (you can pretty much hear if a car makes room for you or not or install a rear view mirror. You will notice that even in North America well over 95% of the cars will go to the left enough when passing you. I am telling you this from personal experience. Keep on riding!
