The Fried Jumbo Podcast
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 16 พ.ค. 2024
The Fried Jumbo podcast is about the lessons that we all learned while growing up. It is hosted by two childhood friends that grew up together in the late 1970s and 1980s. Our childhood nicknames are Chickenhawk and Dubs. We have known each other since we were 8 years old. We are going to share stories about growing up during our time period. That being said, we also plan on having guests on the show that grew up during different times period. We will also have guests on that were raised in different countries, and came from different religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. Fried Jumbo is a food that was eaten by many of us Pittsburghers during the 1970s and 1980s. It serves a symbol for growing up in Pittsburgh during a time when the steel mills and factories were closing and households struggled to put meat on the table. Inexpensive lunch meats like bologna (nicknamed Jumbo in Pittsburgh) and chipped ham became staples of our diets. Get ready for some great stories!

I remember growing up and running around with all you guys…especially Clem and Ernie..a lot of great memories.
Awesome interview!
Amèn ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
So many great stories! Love this man ❤ Can’t wait for part 2!
My life is complete😂 this was our normal😂😂 Todays generation wouldnt survive a summer!!
We had the pink burn from hell in our kits😂
Being female, I collected JFK cards, like baseball cards, when I was a kid in Trafford. Had no idea of the Westmoreland-Whiskey connection?! Will check that out. I need to buy Andrew's new book! This is a fantastic country...not a "trash can" for the world, as this presidential candidate just said. Great interview.
Cappets in Cavittsville
That's my brother Andrew! I enjoyed watching this! Lots of great memories growing up in Belleau Woods!
Nothing spells Pittsburgh, for me, more than Ham Barbeque! I guess my families never qualified for government cheese??? Don't remember seeing it in our family homes. The Dean's grocery store (604 Fifth Street, Trafford) gave families credit to buy food during the Depression. My Granddad Erwin always talked about Blackhand murders. Andrew Capets is a fantastic historian for Trafford. Wonderful interview!!! Barbara Erwin Horch
I don't know the other two fellas in this video..... however I know Andy, and he and his family are good people. Thanks Andy for keeping Trafford significant in our memories
I can’t stop laughing (and crying) about the shed and the imitation. I am claustrophobic to this day…explains a lot.
Wasn’t that nuts! Why were we in that shed??
Love the Polish canon reference. Completely forgot about those days. BTW The Trafford Bus was 67F. It was the best way to get to a Pirate game.
I do remember 67f. so funny!
I never knew Mike’s dad was a Marine. Semper Fi.
Subscribed. 👍
Gen x goes camping….survivors!
Todd, Ask me sometime about camping with my dad at Yough Dam and the Irwin Fat Ladies Club. Dave
My parents always took their cars to a Yatsko Garage in Peter's Twp. or Canonsburg. Wonder if that was in his family?? My Dad grew up in Canonsburg and my mother in Peter's Twp. Very interesting to hear Mr. Yatsko speak. I wish it was longer!
Yes. That was their family’s garage! I agree! I can listen to a Bucky all day!
I moved to Irwin when I was 5 and the first movie I saw at the Lamp was The Shaggy DA! So many memories - ET, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Grease, Star Wars, BJ and the Bear....
I remember all of those movies! Brings back great memories!
Great episode! I could listen to Bucky all day! So much to learn from him. ❤️
Blind Robins and a pickled Red Hot sausage. The patch equivalent of surf and turf….. Had them many times at Krynicky’s bar in Calumet. You guys take care. Dave
You too! Thanks for giving the show your time! Our goal is to interview people of all ages and backgrounds so that we can learn from each generation
Lisa you are a cool and lovely lady❤️
Entertaining as always. My brother attended Allegheny starting in 84.
Great memories! Chris Roberto Clemente was our first news worthy story. Jaws was our first movie. Matt Dillon was most girls heart throb in junior high. John McEnroe my sports figure because he threw the racquet around. Mike I love the respect you showed your mother. Audrey is an amazing person❤️ Todd loved the story about Jean talking to all the kids about college. Funniest thing from this episode for me was Chris erasing Farrah Fawcett poster🤣 Whoever is reading this tell fried jumbo your favorites, movie, celebrities, news worthy memories ect.
Sheraden Terrace had one at Shaw School
yes. I remember playing kickball up there as well! great times
Ham Barbecue is really done with just Isley's Chipped Ham, Heinz Ketchup and Coke. That's how it was made in our household.
Love this
thanks brother! lots of fun to do!
Great stuff
Great job guys…. Loved hearing the stories! 😂
North Braddock❤
Song?
They had some nice fairs in Coulter, along time ago.😉
My Gram used to take us to the Coulter Fair every year!
All of you exhibit True Grit, love you.❤ Chris s you are a blast always. Lots of laughs!
thanks Nancy! Mr. Sylvania had some great advice for living a life of gratitude!
Ko zot😅
thanks!
Hey guys, good stuff. Was great hearing you talk about me and my dad. Yea Pall Malls. He finally gave those up later in life. Dad was a good baseball coach but his calling was Football. Great defensive coach. Remember him inventing the Doberman defense with the Greenies. Great memories of my dad firing me up driving to games. Baseball - my fave coach was Mr. Crupie as he lived baseball. Man if he got mad at you the spit would be flying. He made me and us not only good ball players but taught discipline that I use today as a manager. So much of my management style comes from those days and those dads that gave a shit about teaching us to be better players and develop structure that we or at least I do reach into the back pocket and use 50 years later.
So true Johnny! Those men had a huge impact on our lives going forward…I truly appreciate what your dad and other coaches do to make us better.
Agree 110% tough business you definitely need a strong work ethic
Funny episode - Christopher was a good choice
Thanks Dave! Hope you are well!
What a waste of advertisement money
sorry you didn’t like it. Just like anything else in life, we all see the world from a different perspective and that is a good thing.
Haven't seen that guy in forever. He's an original Hillian. From good old Country Hills. What we called the other side. 😀
he is a great guy!
Chris you are one of my favorite Irwin people❤
Chris is so funny! great guy!
❤❤
❤️❤️
Mike Newell, you make me proud to be Irish! Loved it!
he was great! I saw on Facebook that he is in Ireland right now on vacation!
Tony you’re an interesting man. Heartbreaking childhood. I really admire how you give God the glory for your success in life.
Thanks Nancy! Tony is a great guy! Over came a tough childhood to find happiness in life.
Love the show. Interesting interview.
Thanks Mike! You will have to come on when you visit back this way.
