Product Development for The Power Mole
The Power Mole is a device that enables powering outdoor devices via indoor outlets via wireless power transfer through windows. This video gives an overview of the product development process I used, touching on industrial design, electrical/mechanical engineering, and firmware/software.

TVC Rockoon Liftoff
มุมมอง 7342 ปีที่แล้ว
I built a 2 stage Thrust Vector Controlled Rocket (with Spin control), with the goal of launching it from a high altitude balloon from 90,000 feet. Several balloon liftoff attempts were made before the balloon and rocket sailed off together.
Clustered 2-Stage Thrust Vector Controlled Rocket
มุมมอง 6512 ปีที่แล้ว
I use 4xH13ST Aerotech motors in a Thrust Vector Controlled (TVC) rocket. I have adaptive spin control as well. This is a J-impulse high power rocket, launched Febraury 2022 at Tripoli Central California. Two H13s fire at launch, followed by the second two at about 14s into flight. The altitude was greater than 1 mile high, best estimate is about 5800 feet.
Clustered Aerotech G8 Thrust Vector Control Rocket
มุมมอง 8782 ปีที่แล้ว
I launch a TVC rocket with pitch, roll and spin control. The motors are 2xG8 long burn (20s) from Aerotech [G8-ST Super Thunder]. I launch off the ground with no ground support equipment, and have an on-board GoPro for some great on-rocket footage.
Thrust Vector Controlled Rocketry: Spin Control with a 2 Engine Cluster
มุมมอง 4082 ปีที่แล้ว
My previous spin control solution was not ideal, because I needed a heavy dc motor and a spin mass. I made a clustered 2-element thrust vector controlled rocket that also allows for an additional degree of freedom. If I skew one of the engines, I can induce spin [or compensate for spin]. I demonstrate this on a double Estes E9 thrust vector controlled (TVC) rocket.
F10 Thrust Vector Control Rocket, H13 TVC, then H135 Non-TVC
มุมมอง 4553 ปีที่แล้ว
3 launches and discussion F10 - 7s burn, great launch. GoPro views! H13 - 15.2s burn, gopro view. H135 - Not a TVC, just wanted to record data. Smashed my rocket.
H13 Thrust Vector Controlled Rocket Flight
มุมมอง 8343 ปีที่แล้ว
I launch a 15.2s H13 (Aerotech) Thrust Vector Controlled rocket. Peak altitude was about 1300 feet. Successful launch at October Skies (central California Tripoli rocket club) 2021.
Thrust Vector Control Rocketry - Schematics, Design and 2 Launches
มุมมอง 1.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Everything I do is open sourced..... all code, board files, schematic, etc on the github here: github.com/pete463251/tvc-june2021 I discuss electronic design of the rocket, then do 2 launches, an F10 (7-second burn) and an H13 (15second burn), then look at the data. If there's anything else you'd like to see add a comment and I will look to add. - Pete
Thrust Vector Rocketry with Spin Control
มุมมอง 7453 ปีที่แล้ว
Follow on to previous video. I implement a spin mass in the nose cone for spin control with a simple algorithm. The final launch uses an updated PID algorithm with reduced max deviation and lower PD values (I set to zero).

    You should simplify things and just get the proof of concept right. Remove all the electronics, balance the rocket on a spindle and pre-spin the rocket using an electric motor as the base. When its spinning at maximum velocity… send it…

    Here I am after never paying attention to chemistry in school. In my country any hydrogen peroxide above 3% is being monitored by authorities and you need to be a certified farmer to even be allowed to buy it. I just need it for cleaning my yellow plastics ;_;

    When I was in 8th grade, I had an earwax problem and cleaned my ears with peroxide everyday. Then we learned about this process in science class. In my infinite wisdom, I decided that a higher concentration of peroxide could clean my ears even better. So I went home and concentrated 3% peroxide into at least 15% and put a drop in my ear. Instantly, I couldn't hear out of that ear for 5 minutes. I was scared to death. I thought I had lost my hearing in one ear permanently.

    • @geraldimhof2875
      @geraldimhof2875 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hope I'm not to late 😅 I would first create a trajectory on Matlab or Python to know the path to target from launch point. This should then translate to an angle with respect to the ground, over time. That angle should then be translated into the missile's frame and with that you have your desired setpoint, that evolves with altitude

    I can't believe that is 90 percent H2O2. 90 percent H2O2 is very corrosive and oxidizes very quickly. Its usually stored in a freezer to prevent oxidization.

  • @chiraldude
    @chiraldude 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You can do this but it is dangerous. Above 60% or so H2O2 is capable of runaway decomposition. I worked at a company that was developing a H2O2 sterilization system that took 60%, concentrated it to 95% then flash evaporated it into a vacuum chamber. Every 20 cycles (or so) the solution would "explode" before reaching 95%. Not a problem as it was only 20ml and in a metal chamber but, the point is that we started with a fairly pure solution from an industrial supplier. Drug store peroxide comes with unknown amounts of additional "stuff" that could cause all sorts of problems. I recommend using a face shield and thick clothing so that when a batch does explode, you won't have to pick the glass shards out of your skin!

  • @firstmkb
    @firstmkb 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That second loss was heartbreaking! You could use a launch assistant - there is just so much last minute prep to do! On the off chance it might help next time - did you insulate your batteries? Probably not the issue, but otherwise I got nothing but empathy.

  • @firstmkb

    How did you determine what chemical the stabilizer was, and how did you get rid of it? Awesome job - I haven’t seen anyone else mention stabilizers, let alone demonstrate the impact on performance!

    • @peterb7615
      @peterb7615 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just googled what the potential stabilizers were. You could tell stabilizers are left in H2O2 because it burns slower and leaves a black residue. Basically I redistilled the distillate, which also had h2o2 in it but no stabilizers

    Hey Peter! Thanks for posting this - I had no idea it was that simple to concentrate it that far! You have my sympathy re: so many comments about either just boiling it down or freezing to concentrate it. I told some of those people about how azeotropes complicate the process, but the questions didn’t end! Thanks again - off to watch your demo.

    You can just concentrate it yourself. Water boils at 212°f hydrogen peroxide boils at 302°f so just get the solution to 250°f and keep it there. Of you know the volume going in and the volume coming out you know the concentration. If you over concebtrate add distilled water if under boil it more. There you go.

    • @firstmkb
      @firstmkb 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It forms an azeotrope with water, and the peroxide will begin decomposing before all of the water is gone. Similar thing as distilling alcohol/water mixes. Alcohol boils first, but it always brings some water with it.
