    Yeah, sure , the data is anonymized... in the same way that the data was secure in that Equifax breach - putting telemetry in one database and user info in another where you have access to both is privacy through obscurity. And it's doubly problematic in terms of telemetry that collects locations and camera feeds - you don't even need the customer database at this point to breach their privacy. I could at least pry out the physical SIM from my old car (even tho it was literally soldered on the board), with my new car I have no way of removing the eSIM and I don't buy for a second that all the permissions I disabled are preventing it to send back telemetry whether I like it or not.

      @zwerko 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You eventually won't have a choice - cars don't last forever and eventually all cars will be coming with 'connectivity' whether you like it or not. And if you think you'll be able to stick with a 90s car, I'm fairly certain the manufacturers will lobby the governments to make those illegal on public roads for one reason or another. Given that the vast majority of people simply do not care (until it's too late), I'm afraid there's no winning this one...

    They put a manufacturer SIM card in them that sends and receives data in most new cars. The dealers become the middleman as they keep quiet about this feature when selling to the customers. This area needs investigating and stopped because we are not buying cars but hiring them.

    • @zwerko
      @zwerko 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh, I wish it was a SIM card like in my old car - that one I could de-solder and remove (which I did!) - new vehicles are coming with an eSIM so short of removing the whole ECU (without which you won't be able to operate your modern car), you're screwed...

    If anyone cares so much about privacy, buy an old vehicle from 2000 or prior and make sure your house is off the grid, run a farm, buy a solar array to power it. Or, better yet go live with the Amish and get a carriage with horses. The point is, you can be tracked by your phone, your computer, your smart watch, and if you have airtags like I do, pretty much anywhere you put them. Walk around 95% of the cities and your face will be captured. This is part of living in a connected world. Tough.

    • @redplague2133
      @redplague2133 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

    • @zwerko
      @zwerko 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Tracking and privacy violations are one thing, ownership is a different thing. Yes, we do need to give up a certain level of privacy for the convenience of the connected world, but that doesn't mean we need to give it all up. There is a zero societal advantage for manufacturers to be able to remotely disable or even operate YOUR vehicle and that needs to be fought as the downside of it is much greater than the fight for privacy we as a society decided not to fight...

    There are some chips which seem to have all the requirements but aren't officially supported. You might have heard that consumer 7th gen chips aren't supported (although 7th gen xeons are), but that's not strictly true. There's Microsoft Surface laptop that has a 7th gen consumer cpu, and funny thing, THAT cpu is officially supported in Windows 11. So it might be that 7th gen consumer chips actually DO have all of the hardware requirements, they definitely have TPM 2.0 After all, there are officially supported xeon chips that are almost identical to consumer versions and those xeons are supported. For instance the i9-7900X is almost the same processor as the xeon w-2150. I installed Windows 11 on an unsupported 7th gen laptop, it got the latest version of Windows 11 and it's getting minor updates. Whether it will get a major feature update, I don't know. But since it has tpm 2.0 I suspect it will. By the way, the way Windows 11 installed, it didn't even uninstall the existing programs, it UPDATED even though I had to download an ISO and use that.
